Broken Families
It is said that before a person dies, he or she will put out something called a revolving lantern, so that others can watch his or her shitty life. This is a way for people to strengthen their determination to die. Tong Zhenzhen vaguely feels that she is at this stage now.
Her birth was not expected by her parents, and they were not in true love, but she was indeed an accident, so unexpected that they could no longer tolerate each other, and they divorced before she figured out what one plus one equals.
"Why are you here again today?! You should have gone to your dad's house on the day!" The mother held her and her current husband's newborn son, and waved her hand with disgust to send Tong Zhenzhen, who had just started elementary school, away, wanting to close the door before she entered.
How could a child have the strength to fight against an adult? The young Tong Zhenzhen was pushed and staggered, but she still endured the pain and put her feet in the crack of the door, crying with tears on her face and begging her mother:
"Mom, please, I don't want to go to Dad's place. He always beats Auntie and me. I'm scared..."
"Don't call me mom! The court awarded you to your dad, and now that aunt is your mom. I already have a new life and family, and it's great that I can tolerate you staying here occasionally. Don't push your luck and get out of here!" Seeing that she refused to let go, the woman started to scream hysterically, and the baby in her arms started crying out of fear. She hurriedly held him and rocked him gently, soothing him softly:
"Be good, baby, stop crying! We don't talk to unwanted children. Let's go inside!"
Tong Zhenzhen stared at the scene in front of her in a daze. She had never experienced being cared for by her mother since she was born. Even when she begged for mercy, she received no care from her mother. The young child did not understand what it meant to be awarded to her father by the court, nor did she know the emotion called jealousy. She only felt inexplicably sad.
Seeing the baby stop crying, she breathed a sigh of relief, but when she saw Tong Zhenzhen, she frowned again and threatened in a low voice:
"Go back now, or I will never see you again!"
Tong Zhenzhen panicked for a moment, and quickly retracted her foot that was already swollen from being pinched by the door:
"I'm sorry, mom. I'm going back now. Can you please not--"
Bang!
Before she could finish her words, the door was slammed shut, leaving her standing there alone, facing the locked door.
"What's wrong? Is it the child of you and your ex-husband again? What's wrong with her that she comes to see you every day?"
"She really takes after her father. She might have teamed up with him to disgust us. She is jealous that we gave birth to a son. She blamed me for not being able to give birth to a son. Now let her keep that money-loser for herself!"
The heavy door blocked out most of the shouting from inside, but it could still be heard faintly. Tong Zhenzhen could only vaguely realize that her mother didn't want to see her. She twisted the hem of her skirt with her little hands, hesitated for a while, then turned around and left, returning to her father's home.
She didn't like that home. Her father and aunt were always quarreling. Sometimes her father would beat her aunt when he was drunk, and she was no exception. Although the bruises on her body were discovered by the teacher and some unfamiliar uncles and aunts would come to her house to talk to her father, it was still to no avail. Only when she occasionally went to her mother's house could she feel a little at ease. At least her mother's house was very peaceful, everyone would ignore her, and no one would beat her.
Tong Zhenzhen originally wanted to go back to her room and lock the door to do her homework after returning home to avoid being beaten. However, she had already closed the door carefully, but was still discovered by the drunk man. He grabbed her arm roughly and asked:
"Did you go to see that bitch again? You idiot, can't you see that she looks down on you?! You went to her to make her laugh at me. You, hiccup, you all look down on me. I can't deal with her, but I can deal with you, little brat!"
The father, who in textbooks should have the image of a man gently caressing his children with his broad hands, has completely transformed into a madman with red eyes in Tong Zhenzhen's mind.
"I don't look down on your father. I won't go to see your mother anymore! I'm sorry..."
Fists and slaps rained down on Tong Zhenzhen. She cried and tried to run, but he grabbed her neck viciously. She was forced to endure the wrath of a failed middle-aged man.
Haha, I just look down on you, old Deng. How come I didn’t kill you from drinking?
Looking back on this scene, Tong Zhenzhen wanted to roll her eyes and spit at her scumbag father even though she was not fully conscious.
She spent her entire childhood in the midst of her father's alcoholism and beatings, and her mother's neglect and disgust. Her aunt who remarried her father divorced him the following year because she couldn't stand him anymore. She finally made it to junior high school and was able to live in school instead of going home. In the eyes of other classmates, boarding life away from home was simply hell, but for Tong Zhenzhen, there was nothing more gratifying than being able to reasonably not go home.
"Ah? Zhenzhen, you're not going home again this week?" It was Friday again, and her roommate had already packed her things, waiting impatiently for her parents to pick her up from "jail". Although she could stay at school on weekends, she admired Tong Zhenzhen's ruthless behavior of not going home for several months in a row:
"I admire you, Zhenzhen. You are the best at this test. You deserve to be first in the grade!"
"Thank you, thank you. I learned this from rolling up pancakes in front of the school when I was young." Tong Zhenzhen was serious and funny, and she naturally broached the topic. Her roommate was also amused by her, and without thinking too much, he waved goodbye to her:
"My parents are very strange. They keep nagging me to go back home after not seeing me for a day. When I go back, they tell me to go back to school. If they find me annoying again, I might be able to come back to accompany you on Saturday, so you don't have to stay alone in an empty room! Then I'll leave first. Bye!"
"Then I hope you won't be disliked too soon. Bye!" Tong Zhenzhen also joked with a smile and waved goodbye to her roommate.
Finally, she was the only one left in the dormitory. The sun had already set. In order to encourage boarding students to go to the classroom to study, the school would not provide electricity to the dormitories before nine o'clock in the evening. So Tong Zhenzhen stayed alone in the dim room, relying entirely on the faint light from the old mobile phone in her hand for illumination.
She held up the old phone and placed it under her chin. The pale light made her face look scary and funny. She imitated the tone of the female ghost in the movie:
"I hate it so much~"
"Is there anyone going crazy on Thursday, May, October?"
“Hahahahahahahaha!”
Tong Zhenzhen was amused by her own crazy behavior and let out a goose laugh that lasted for at least a minute, ending her daily self-entertainment in the dormitory on the weekend. After all, if she played for a while longer, the dormitory manager might come up and call her crazy.
She simply packed her things, and thinking she was very cool, she held a bottle of Levitra in her mouth for dinner, and went to the classroom to study with her small schoolbag on her back. Growing up in such a family, she now has only one thought in mind, to study hard and then run as far as possible.
But even though Tong Zhenzhen only had one wish, which was to study hard, the road to achieving it was full of ups and downs. She didn't understand it when she was a child, but she realized when she grew up that her parents did not give birth to her out of love. To them, she was a burden and they were unwilling to waste their energy and money on her.
"Why should I pay for it? The court originally awarded her to you. You should pay for her tuition and living expenses! Doesn't our Huihui go to school for free?!"
"Stop embarrassing yourself here, you bitch! This isn't your child? Why don't you pay for it?"
The year when Tong Zhenzhen was supposed to go to high school, they quarreled countless times over who would pay for her education, sometimes on the phone, and sometimes her shameful father took her to her mother's house to make a scene. Tong Zhenzhen was already numb to this, but fortunately her biological mother really didn't want to see her again, and finally worked out a compromise plan: one person would pay tuition and the other would be responsible for living expenses, on the condition that Tong Zhenzhen was not allowed to appear in front of her and her new family in the future. Tong Zhenzhen was still quite relieved, at least she was not forced to drop out of school to work.
Fortunately, they still have some conscience as parents. Otherwise, if she had worked so hard to get into the best high school in the provincial capital, but was forced to drop out because of them, she really wouldn't mind taking her parents to the street to make a scene and lose the face they care about most.
Needless to say, the three years of high school were stressful. Even Tong Zhenzhen, the top student who never went home, found it difficult. But she couldn't complain to her family like other classmates did. Rather, it was the two crazy husband and wife at home who were the source of her suffering.
Oh, I almost forgot, she has no home now, so funny.
I don't know when, perhaps because she was used to finding joy in adversity, Tong Zhenzhen developed her heartless and playful personality, and she can tell herself some hellish jokes from time to time. Thanks to this optimism, she survived the difficult three years, was admitted to a famous university in another province with excellent results, and successfully realized Run Deyuanyuan's wish.
As soon as the news of her admission to a prestigious university came out, her father, the moment he saw the admission letter, smiled a flattering smile that she had never seen in her life:
"Really? I knew I hadn't raised you in vain! This university is great. Once you graduate, you can find a good job. I won't have to worry about my monthly drinking money, and you can be filial to your dad! Oh, if you marry a second-generation rich boy, I'll have a son and a daughter, which will make up for your dad's regret of not having a son in this life. You can enjoy the rest of your life!"
I respect Nima.
His abacus beads were about to hit Tong Zhenzhen's face. She rolled her eyes inwardly, but knew that she couldn't break up with him at this time. It would be bad if he got mad and threw her notice away. She showed a somewhat embarrassed expression:
"Ah? But going to college costs a lot of money, and I don't want you to be too hard..."
After hearing this, the man also thought about the money he had to pay, and his mouth twitched in pain, but for the sake of his usual strong face and the happy life of sucking his daughter's blood in the future, he insisted and said:
"What are you afraid of? I'll pay for it! If all else fails, there's your own mother. She doesn't even pay for her children's college education!"
The man started swearing again, saying some obscene words that were unbearable to the ears, and took out his cell phone to dial a number. Tong Zhenzhen took the opportunity to quickly grab the admission letter that he had thrown aside, and quietly went back to the house to put it away. She was just one step away from her plan to escape from this home, and she would not allow any mistakes.
Now he is pretending to be a good father, what have you been doing before? And he is still showing filial piety - it makes her laugh to death. When he is admitted to the ICU, she will be happy to show filial piety.
Tong Zhen really didn't want to call that man father. She even hated him so much. Whenever she thought of those violent and bloody memories of her childhood, she hated him so much that she hoped he would die of alcohol poisoning and leave this beautiful world as soon as possible. Oh, these words sounded a bit vicious and not very suitable for her, a kind and lovely little girl.
In short, thanks to her superb skills in making big promises, Tong Zhenzhen finally got her wish and reported to the university.
No one came to see her off on the day of reporting, but she was used to it. Tong Zhenzhen was a sturdy woman. At that time, she was not a fragile college student. She carried two suitcases up six floors by herself.
"666... This should be it." Tong Zhenzhen counted the house numbers one by one and finally stopped in front of the dormitory with 666 written on it.
"As expected of me, the dormitory I was assigned to is so awesome. I don't know if I can get along with my roommates..." Tong Zhenzhen muttered softly. She also saw many posts complaining about college roommates during the summer vacation, and she was still a little nervous.
She was about to take out the key she had just received from the dormitory manager, but she found that the door was ajar, so she knocked on the door, took a deep breath, and pushed the door open.
"No, buddy, you haven't even developed enough, why are you giving away kills with such little gold?!"
"Sisters, come and try this little cake - wow, your outfit is so trendy, can I have a link?"
"of course~"
Tong Zhenzhen looked at the three people who were sharing a small cake in the room. The corners of their mouths were covered with cream. When they saw her, they all picked up another small cake:
"Hey sis, wanna have one?"
She was stunned for a moment, then responded with a smile:
"OK!"
Tong Zhenzhen couldn't help but quicken her pace and walk towards her bright future.
