Chapter 1120 Mother and Daughter Argument

After returning from Granny Pang's place, Madam Peng became increasingly angry, feeling that everything she had been doing lately was because of Jiang Jiuniang's meddling. She then decided to find a way to teach Jiang Jiuniang a lesson.

Granny Pang's eyes cannot be lost in vain!

However, before that, she needed to meet with Peng Yuan to get a more accurate understanding of the situation.

I originally intended to go to the Qin residence in person, but considering that Qin Jian would probably be there, I hesitated for a moment and decided to send someone to fetch Peng Yuan to come to the residence for a chat. After all, the mother and daughter hadn't seen each other or had a private conversation in a long time.

Peng Yuan had been staying home lately, spending all her time with Qin Jian. When her family came to take her back, her heart skipped a beat.

The visitor made it very clear that the lady wanted to have a private conversation with her, which meant she didn't want Qin Jian to come along.

Thinking about what happened at the border, Peng Yuan immediately became nervous.

She's quite far along in her pregnancy, so it could be dangerous if a conflict breaks out at her parents' home.

"I'll go with you. My mother-in-law can talk to me about anything."

Qin Jian was naturally worried about letting her go back alone, so he went with her so that he could help her in case of any emergencies.

"Since it was my mother who specifically instructed me to go back, I'll go back myself."

Peng Yuan sighed, still feeling somewhat uneasy.

She had been worried ever since she returned from the border, and this time it was probably true.

There are some things she should tell her mother.

Seeing that she insisted, Qin Jian didn't say anything, but simply said, "Then I'll take you there."

Peng Yuan nodded, not refusing.

Peng Yuan returned to her parents' home with a heavy heart, where Madam Peng had been waiting for a long time.

"I have met my mother."

She entered Madam Peng's courtyard and saw Madam Peng sitting in the hall with a blank face, looking very unhappy.

Peng Yuan knew that she had guessed correctly.

"Please sit down."

After all, she was her own daughter, so Madam Peng wouldn't make things difficult for a pregnant woman, though her expression was still not very pleasant.

"Mother, is there something you want to tell your daughter?"

After sitting for a while, Madam Peng remained silent, so Peng Yuan couldn't help but speak up.

"It's nothing," Madam Peng said coldly. "It's just that Granny Pang is ill and nearing her end, and I'm a little sad. I just brought you back to keep me company and talk to you."

Peng Yuan was taken aback. Was this the work of Sister Jiu Niang?

It's not advisable for Granny Pang to stay any longer. Even now, Peng Yuan feels that the journey is still too slow. It would have been better to have her die halfway there, so that she wouldn't have had the chance to complain to her mother.

But it's too late to say anything now. Judging from Mother's appearance, Granny Pang must have told her everything.

But it doesn't matter, it was expected. Even without the incident with Granny Pang, she would have found an opportunity to explain her position to her mother.

"Yes, life and death are predestined. My condolences to my mother."

She deliberately acted calmly, and sure enough, Mrs. Peng lost her composure instantly.

"Yuan'er, that was at least a human life!"

Madam Peng was furious and glared at her fiercely.

Peng Yuan still feigned composure and smiled, "But Mother, this is not something I can decide. However, Granny Pang has served you for decades, so her funeral should be held in a grand manner to avoid giving people something to talk about."

Madam Peng sneered. She didn't know when her daughter had become so tolerant. Granny Pang was right; her two daughters had long been corrupted by Jiang Jiu Niang.

"Since you know that Granny Pang is my confidante and has served me for decades, how could you just stand by and watch Jiang Jiuniang gouge out her eyes on some random excuse! How long do you intend to keep this from me!"

She slammed her hand on the table, stood up angrily, and glared at Peng Yuan, panting heavily.

Peng Yuan was a little nervous, her palms were slightly sweaty, but she remained calm on the surface.

"Did Granny Pang tell Mother that Sister Jiu Niang just made up an excuse to gouge out her eyes? How ridiculous! Mother has known her for so many years, yet she's still so easily fooled. At the border, she took advantage of being someone Mother sent, and while the general was away fighting, she forcibly locked my daughter in the courtyard, preventing her from leaving, in order to force my daughter to agree to take those two sisters into her room. My daughter was pregnant, and this servant dared to boss me around, almost causing my daughter to miscarry! Is your own granddaughter less important than a lowly, bullying creature?!"

Madam Peng had never seen her daughter like this before. She was stunned for a moment, and then Peng Yuan continued, "It wasn't unjust that her eyes were gouged out. When Sister Jiu Niang returned from her trip, she took my pulse and said that if she had returned a few more days later, the baby in her womb would have been lost. She prescribed medicine to prevent miscarriage. But Granny Pang didn't take the general's wife seriously at all. She glared at Sister Jiu Niang with eyes that looked like they were filled with poison. Sister Jiu Niang only gouged out her eyes and spared her life, which was already a great act of mercy. I never expected that she would still be sowing discord between Mother and me. If I had known, I should have executed her in that border region, so that she wouldn't have the chance to come back and incite Mother to blame me like this!"

Peng Yuan remained seated, but her presence was no less imposing than that of Madam Peng, who was standing; in fact, it was even stronger.

When Mrs. Peng heard her say this, she felt like she didn't recognize her daughter anymore. It was as if her daughter had become a different person. She never used to talk to her like this.

It was indeed Jiang Jiuniang who corrupted her daughter!

"How...how dare you speak to me like that..."

She was somewhat incredulous, but before she could finish speaking, Peng Yuan interrupted her, saying, "I know Mother has always wanted to put someone in my room. I came here today to make things clear to Mother that I will not agree, so Mother, please don't waste your time. Qin Jian and I have come a long way, and I cannot bear to share my husband with another woman. He promised me a lifetime of monogamy, and I cannot break our promise. Besides, it wouldn't do me any good. What do you think, Mother?"

From a very young age, she knew that her mother always liked to arrange for her father to take concubines, even though she was very unhappy about it.

I didn't know why before, but when I grew up I realized that she and her father were outwardly friendly but inwardly at odds, and she could only maintain the appearance of a respectable marriage by constantly arranging for her father to take concubines.

She could understand her mother's helplessness, but she and her sister didn't need to use such methods to keep their husbands. Why did her mother still do such a thing?

Is it for profit?

However, Qin Jian's official position is not high at present, and he does not want to be too ambitious in order to avoid suspicion. Sending a few women over would only annoy her and serve no other purpose.

"There aren't that many people in this world who are faithful to each other for life. That's all men deceiving you! I'm doing this for your own good. It's fine if you don't understand, but you've even tormented my nanny, Granny Pang, to this extent. You really are my good daughter!"

Madam Peng was very upset. She felt that her daughter was unconventional and not on her side. She thought that her daughter's words were not as trustworthy as those of Granny Pang. Granny Pang had served her for decades and she knew her daughter's character best. How could she do the things that Madam Peng said?
