Chapter 55 "The Honest Man"

Zhang Song was a hot-tempered man. Upon hearing this, he stepped forward and kicked Zhang Song, saying, "Come on, I want to see how you can teach me a lesson? You've been arrested and you're still so arrogant. Looks like you haven't learned your lesson yet."

He was originally a pig butcher, and he had a lot of violent tendencies. The little thief wanted to curse a few more times after being kicked. Anyway, the village chief couldn't do anything about them, so he would definitely let them off lightly this time. After all, there were still many of their clansmen in the village.

But when he looked up and saw the ferocity on Zhang Song's face, he immediately stopped talking. He felt as if Zhang Song would kick him to death if he dared to say another word.

He Jiuniang looked at Zhang Song with great satisfaction. In the future, what she needed in business was someone with courage like Zhang Song. The eldest and second sons of the Lu family were too honest and sometimes they inevitably got bullied.

Lu Lao Er quickly arrived with the village chief and a group of people. Most of them were people who had been chosen by the Lu family yesterday to help build houses. They were supposed to come here early in the morning to wait for the division of labor, but when they saw Lu Lao Er rushing to find the village chief, they came along.

When the crowd saw the three disheveled figures on the ground, they immediately recognized them: "Aren't these Da Niu and the others? What happened to them?"

Old Lu went up to the village chief and told him what had happened. He only said that the three thieves had come to steal horses at night and had been caught by his family. He did not specify that it was He Jiuniang. He was worried that his daughter-in-law would get into trouble because of the gossip in the village.

"You lot are really still up to your old tricks, bringing shame upon yourselves in front of the village chief!"

A man suddenly spoke up from the crowd. Everyone looked over and found that he was an uncle of the Da Niu family, and coincidentally, the son of their family patriarch.

"Third Uncle, save me! Quickly go find my parents and the clan chief to save me! Third Uncle!"

Upon seeing his relatives, Da Niu naturally disregarded everything else and tearfully begged for help.

But the man ignored him: "You have to bear the consequences of your own sins. Don't drag your parents and clansmen into this!"

The man turned to the village chief and said, "Village chief, Da Niu and his gang have always been a menace to our village, and the clan is also very troubled by them. Today, this incident has happened, and they have also offended the newly arrived Lu family. How to resolve this is entirely up to the village chief. There is no need to consider our Qian family!"

Although the man is not the clan leader, his father is, and he will become the next clan leader after his father passes away, so he still has some say in the clan.

Da Niu was furious that his uncle had given up on him so easily. He struggled for a while, and the horse manure on his body was flung around him. Zhang Song stepped forward and kicked him again: "Behave yourself!"

Seeing this scene, the other two immediately wilted and didn't dare to be as arrogant as Da Niu. They just lowered their heads and waited for their family members to come and rescue them.

The village chief was also very troubled by these troublemakers. Almost every village has a few bad apples, but their village had a particularly large number, and they even formed small gangs. Da Niu and his two friends were one of these gangs. They hadn't done anything particularly heinous, but they liked to steal chickens and dogs. Their families couldn't control them, and they just drifted through life like this.

Although the villagers were annoyed by them, they seemed to have gotten used to it, so most of them turned a blind eye. It was precisely because of this that the group became more and more unscrupulous, and even started to target the Lu family.

If these two horses were sold, they would fetch at least several dozen taels of silver. With that money, they could even retire comfortably. The group had even decided to go home and live a peaceful life after this heist. However, they were caught red-handed, and their dream of going home to get married was shattered.

"Da Niu, is there anything you want to say?"

The village chief sighed and asked, "We've been framed! We never intended to steal the horse; we were just passing through. This is such a large open space, with no walls or anything. Why can't we walk through? This family is framing us!"

The others were speechless. Even in this situation, he could still lie with his eyes closed. He truly lived up to his reputation for being shameless.

When his two best friends heard that this was possible, they immediately saw an opportunity and started yelling, "We've been framed! This whole family is trying to harm us! These newcomers are all bad news!"

Zhang Song heard this and wanted to step forward again, but Lu Guilan grabbed him and said with displeasure, "That's enough, there are so many people watching!"

Their family has just arrived and their foundation is not stable. They are not as well-connected as these indigenous villagers. If their relatives unite and refuse to acknowledge the situation, and instead blame it on their family, it will backfire.

Zhang Song calmed down. He had just thought that his father-in-law's family had treated him very well during this time, and now that they had been framed by these three petty thieves, he wanted to help them vent their anger.

"Qian Daniu, you've been caught red-handed and you still want to deny it!"

The village chief was so angry that his lips trembled. He had thought that since they were all villagers, if they sincerely admitted their mistakes and apologized, the matter would be over. The Lu family would also let it go out of respect for him as the village chief. But who knew that these people were so stubborn and ungrateful!

"Village chief, we've really been wronged! That family is just bullying us honest people!"

Qian Daniu remained adamant and refused to budge, which drew laughter from the crowd: "You people dare to call yourselves honest? You even stole my chickens a few months ago! If it weren't for the fact that we're all from the same village, do you think I would have let you off so easily? Qian Daniu, don't think that just because there are many of you in your clan and your mother is a shrewish and unreasonable woman, we're afraid of you. We're just too lazy to bother with you!"

"That's right! Even if Qian Dazhong had said he wouldn't care whether you lived or died, we wouldn't just stand by and watch you bully new villagers like this! Is there no law anymore?!"

...

The Lu family just arranged jobs for these people yesterday, and everyone was so grateful that they naturally spoke up for them.

Just then, a long wail came from outside the crowd: "Son, my son, what have you done to my son?"

A woman pushed her way through the crowd and saw the three people tied together. She immediately sat down on the ground, slapped her thigh, and began to wail: "Why are you all ganging up on my son?! Are you trying to kill him?! My son, why is your life so miserable!"

He Jiuniang looked at her, and although she was clearly far away from the three of them, she was obviously disgusted by the horse manure on them. How could she still pretend to be a loving mother?

When Qian Daniu saw his mother, his eyes lit up, and he hurriedly asked, "Mom, where's Dad?"

"Your dad went to the county town early this morning to find work. These people just want to take advantage of your dad's absence and bully my mother and me, waaaaah... There's no justice, no law!"

Li slapped her thigh and cried, then blew her nose with her bare hand and wiped it on the ground, disgusting everyone.

"Mrs. Li, it's your son who made a mistake. Don't try to cause trouble here, or don't blame me for being impolite!"

The village chief was annoyed just looking at her. Li was the most disliked woman in the village, without a doubt.

For other parents, it's shameful for their child to become a hoodlum, but Li Shi doesn't think so. She's even proud of it, believing her son is capable and can live a good life without having to toil in the fields like everyone else. So every time things are exposed, Li Shi makes a scene, making it impossible for the village chief to deal with it, and each time the matter is dropped.
