"Yongfu, if you have any difficulties at home, just tell me, brother..."
No matter how the village chief looked at it, he felt that this big family was messing around with tree roots behind closed doors. Before leaving, he kindly said goodbye to Grandpa Wu.
Although he wasn't extremely wealthy, he had some savings, and his wife wouldn't say anything if he helped out his good friends.
"kindness?"
Grandpa Wu was a little confused. What difficulties did his family have?
After seeing them off and closing the door, he looked at the busy family and suddenly realized what was going on!
This old fellow probably misunderstood that they were so poor they were eating tree roots!
Forget it, I won't explain anymore. Let it be a misunderstanding.
By the time they finished loading this cartload of kudzu, it was already dark.
Three large vats were filled with murky kudzu root water.
Everyone else remained skeptical that this thing could produce snow-white powder.
That's what they thought, but Old Master Wu arranged for his sons to take turns helping to dig up kudzu roots, find beams, and dry the timber. The whole family worked together to make sure the bed and other things were ready before the house of the third son's wife was completed!
Jiang Yue saw it all and kept it in mind.
Every few days, she would send Da Niu to town to weigh meat and bring it home to improve the meals at the old house.
My mother-in-law keeps saying she spends money recklessly, but at the same time, she finds her increasingly pleasing to the eye...
Finally, at the end of May, the new house was completed!
Jiang Yue's family of five finally has their own new house and new rooms!
It cost a total of over sixty taels of silver, and the entire layout was done according to Jiang Yue's requirements.
The layout of the courtyard house, with both the front and back yards enclosed by walls nearly two meters high, gives a sense of security.
To the east is the front yard, with a small vegetable garden and a dog kennel.
Upon entering through the main gate, there were two rooms on either side of the east wing, one for Jiang Yue and the other for Cao'er. Jiang Yue's room, in particular, had a bathroom she had always dreamed of, complete with a squat toilet, so she would never have to use the dry toilet in the dark again!
The south wing is for Da Niu. There are three rooms in total. The largest one is for Da Niu to use as his wedding room when he gets married. There is also a bathroom in the corner of the master bedroom.
The north wing is for Er Gou. It also has three rooms, with the same layout as Da Niu's, treating everyone equally!
Only two rooms remain in the west wing: one is Qingyun's master bedroom, and the other is a study. There is also a bathroom around the corner.
A biogas digester was built in the backyard, and wastewater from all the bathrooms in the corners of the rooms would flow into the biogas digester through a tunnel made of tiles.
Next to the biogas digester are pig pens and chicken coops, and a vacant lot has been left for future use.
The kitchen is located in the middle of the courtyard, with an open kitchen stove and a well next to it, making it convenient to get water.
(A preliminary sketch was shown later.)
This was the first time the village chief had ever seen a house arranged like this. It was strange in a way that he couldn't quite put his finger on, but the layout was strangely reasonable!
Especially the bathroom; after he figured out how it worked and it was finished, he hired workers to build one in his own home!
And believe it or not, I no longer have to worry about my wife getting up at night!
Even my grandson loves this bathroom, saying it's much cleaner!
Isn't it much cleaner now? The stench is gone!
During this time, the Wu family was busy digging up kudzu roots, cutting down trees and building timber to make tables, chairs, benches, beds and cabinets for their third brother and sister-in-law's family.
This is a huge project; it cannot be completed overnight.
Jiang Yue was very grateful for this; during the two months she stayed at the old house, she truly felt like part of this big family...
On the day the main beam was erected, the whole village came to watch the excitement.
No one could have imagined that this petty and narrow-minded woman, Jiang, would actually have the money to build a big house!
Wow, this house looks impressive and very modern!
Jiang Shi transformed herself into the most impressive woman in Wu Family Village!
It seems that Madam Jiang still has some wealth. I heard that Madam Jiang is going to arrange marriages for Da Niu and Er Gou. It seems that they can go back to their parents' home and do some research. Who knows, they might get some benefits!
With a few crackling firecrackers, and under the guidance of the village chief and with the support of her parents-in-law, Jiang Yue moved into her new home with her children!
Invitation? Forget it, she can't afford that.
The villagers, being tactful, mostly offered a few compliments and then reluctantly left...
A few people were still standing on tiptoe, trying to peek inside, but Jiang wouldn't say a word, making them feel embarrassed. They left, muttering to themselves...
Jiang Yue sneered inwardly. Who goes to someone's house for a meal without bringing a gift?
She's not running a charity, why should she indulge the other person!
Aside from the village elders and their grandson, she only invited the people from the old house over for a proper housewarming banquet!
How decent is it?
Pork belly, fatty goose, roast chicken, and fried fish chunks—all kinds of meat, including chicken, duck, and fish, are available!
In addition, there is a pot of wine!
The village chief had dealt with Jiang Yue before and knew that she was extravagant, so on this joyous occasion, he decided to keep his mouth shut.
Old Madam Qin saw that the banquet was quite nice and secretly nodded in approval to Madam Jiang.
Although the elderly couple brought their homemade cured meat with them to the banquet, it was nothing compared to the feast!
It's clear that Chiang Kai-shek valued and respected them, treating them as family, which greatly increased his favorability towards them...
"Knock knock knock, is Sister Jiang home?"
Jiang Yue suddenly heard someone knocking on the door outside the courtyard, so she gestured for everyone to sit down first, and said she would be right back.
Upon opening the door, she was surprised to see Chang Junniang, who was carrying a basket. Even a fool could guess that she had come to deliver a gift.
“Something came up at home today and I was delayed for a while. Congratulations, Qingyun’s mother. These are the dried bamboo shoots I made. Soak them in water and you can stir-fry them.”
Widow Liu was a little reserved, but the kindness in her eyes was undeniable.
Jiang Yue readily accepted the dried bamboo shoots and said warmly:
"Dinner's ready, come in and eat with us."
"No, thank you. I have something to do at home, so I won't eat."
Widow Liu shook her head. She had received a favor from Madam Jiang, who had washed the dandelions and brought them to Madam Jiang in return. In the past month or so, she had earned quite a bit of money!
She was extremely grateful, both emotionally and logically, and wanted to come and offer her congratulations.
"Wait a minute, I'll change the basket and give it back to you. Wait for me~"
Seeing that Jiang Yue couldn't press the matter, she changed her story.
After the other person nodded, she returned to the kitchen, poured the dried bamboo shoots they had given her into a basket, then took out a not-so-new, not-so-old plate and filled it to the brim with fish from the fried fish basket...
Reciprocity is key; that's how relationships are built up little by little...
