Chapter 52 Etiquette

"Thank you, Aunt Jiang, otherwise I wouldn't be able to explain myself today!"

Wang Fangfang smiled through her tears and was about to kneel down to her benefactor as she spoke.

"Don't keep kneeling like that, or you'll shorten my lifespan!"

Jiang Yue didn't care about such formalities; she simply caught the girl and pulled her up.

"Sir, thank you so much for your kind intervention earlier. Are you here to buy something? Please take your time choosing. I'll give you a discount once you've made your selection."

The shopkeeper, with his keen eye, made a promise and then went to appease the other customers.

Wang Fangfang also came to her senses and quickly asked:

"Aunt Jiang, what would you like to buy? I'll help you choose."

"Fangfang, help the old lady pick out two pairs of shoes for my daughter."

Jiang Yue gently pushed her daughter out from behind her, gesturing for her to stretch out her feet so that Fangfang could help her choose shoes.

"Is this your daughter? She looks just like you."

Wang Fangfang saw the little girl who resembled Aunt Jiang and complimented her.

Jiang Yue smiled upon hearing this. The original owner of this body was quite good-looking; otherwise, how could Wu Sanlang have been so bewitched back then, insisting on marrying the original owner of this body with such a bad reputation?

Cao'er smiled shyly. Was the older sister in front of her praising her for being as beautiful as her mother?

He immediately felt a fondness for the older woman and let her measure the length of her feet with her hand...

Wang Fangfang recommends cloth shoes with multiple layers of soles, which are breathable and durable, and are moderately priced at ten copper coins a pair.

After trying them on, Cao'er nodded. The new shoes felt soft and comfortable underfoot.

Jiang Yue ordered two pairs of shoes in different colors and slightly larger sizes.

She also asked for two pairs of shoes for the elderly, one pair for her in-laws and one pair for her parents-in-law. She had observed the sizes and compared them.

Wang Fangfang reminded:

"Aunt Jiang, if the size is too big or too small, as long as the soles aren't dirty, you can bring them back to exchange them."

Jiang Yue nodded. This was a good method. Even if the measurement was inaccurate, it wouldn't be a waste of money.

I paid a total of one hundred copper coins, and the shopkeeper even gave me a palm-sized piece of cloth as a bonus.

After wrapping everything up, Jiang Yue carried the items in her hands and smiled at Fangfang, who had seen her and her daughter out, saying:

"Fangfang, don't panic if you encounter any trouble in the future. My two sons both run food stalls at the stall. You can come to me for help anytime."

"Oh, thank you, ma'am. If I'm not busy, I'll help you with the work, no pay needed!"

Wang Fangfang appreciated the other party's kindness and agreed.

Little did she know, she would soon be relying on this old woman for support...

After walking a distance, the grass asked:

"Mother, do you like this older sister?"

"Love me, love my dog; who knows, she might be your second sister-in-law someday. Isn't Mom just playing matchmaker for your second brother?"

Jiang Yue smiled mysteriously, having already informed her daughter beforehand.

"The grass understands!"

Mother is helping my second brother find a wife. She must make a good impression on Fangfang next time she sees her!

After buying the shoes, Jiang Yue took her daughter to a pastry shop. Perhaps because the Dragon Boat Festival was approaching, the shop had several pots of zongzi (sticky rice dumplings). On the table next to the zongzi, there were bags of mung bean cakes, sesame cakes, and some other pastries that she couldn't name.

"Sir, what would you like to buy?"

An elderly man with white hair came out from inside; he looked to be quite old.

"Boss, I'd like to buy some snacks for my elders. Which ones are suitable for their teeth?"

Jiang Yue said politely, looking around. She felt that the shop was very old-fashioned. If it weren't for the excellent quality and taste, it would probably have closed down long ago.

"I see. Then the best options are mung bean cake, pea flour cake, and sesame cake. These three melt in your mouth and won't hurt your teeth."

As the old man answered, he slowly brought out a plate from inside, on which were placed a few chopped pastries. He smiled and gestured for the guests to try them.

Jiang Yue thanked the old man, then tasted a piece of pea flour cake, handed a piece of mung bean cake to her daughter, and tried some sesame cake herself.

I must say, it tastes pretty good, sweet but not cloying, and it actually has some substance in it!

How much does it cost?

Jiang Yue inquired, "These pastries taste good, we can buy them as a gift for the festival. Adding a pound of meat would make it a very good gift."

"Although the ingredients are cheap, making them into pastries still requires a lot of flour and sugar. A pound costs ten copper coins. How many do you want, sir?"

The old man answered truthfully that his family's pastries had not increased in price for many years, and their reputation was well-known.

"Give me three pounds of each, packaged separately. Then mix them together, one pound of each."

Jiang Yue needs to send one gift to the old house, one to Da Xue's family, and one to the village chief's family. These three gifts need to be sent out. As for her own family, she only needs to send three catties.

"Hey, this old man will wrap it up for you right away."

The old man smiled and nodded, thinking it was a good omen for a successful start, and added a few more pieces to the mixture.

After paying, Jiang Yue's hands were already full of heavy things, so she couldn't shop anymore. She went back to find her sons and see how they were doing.

At this stall, Da Niu and Er Gou's snack stall, apart from the kudzu root powder which was still running low, their face powder had already sold out.

Some customers came specifically because of its reputation, but since they were out of liangpi (cold skin noodles), they had to come earlier tomorrow.

Seeing that business was booming today, the two brothers were confident in their business. Just as they were packing up, they finally saw their mother leading their younger sister with lots of bags and packages coming over.

Without saying a word, Da Niu ran over to help carry the things, his face beaming with joy as he tried to speak, but was stopped by a look from his mother.

"We'll talk about it on the way home."

Jiang Yue noticed many people staring at her and her child, and thought to herself that this was not the place to talk.

"Why."

Da Niu has one thing in common: he listens to his mother!

He stopped talking and took his mother back to the stall.

After some tidying up, the cart was restored to its original state, but it was much lighter than when it arrived.

Jiang Yue gave the money and asked Da Niu to buy ten catties of meat. She, Er Gou, and Cao'er would slow down and wait for him to go home together.

Da Niu didn't ask why, took the money and ran towards the butcher shop.

Er Gou pushed the cart and slowly walked alongside his mother.

Cao'er is sensible; she refused to sit on the cart and insisted on walking with her mother.

After more than ten minutes, Da Niu returned, put the meat on the cart, and took turns pushing the cart home with his second brother.

On the way back, there weren't many people around. Da Niu and Er Gou took turns chattering away, recounting how many people were buying liangpi (cold skin noodles)...

The two brothers unanimously decided that they would wash more cold noodles tomorrow morning!

As for kudzu root powder, perhaps due to the hot weather, the brewing time is longer, so sales are not very good.

After selling for a whole morning, we only sold a dozen or so bowls.

Compared to dozens of bowls of liangpi (cold skin noodles), it's not enough.

Jiang Yue didn't give up. Things will work themselves out; there's always a way.
