Chapter 55 Dividing the Money

When Jiang Yue came out, Da Niu and Er Gou had already gone to the old house to deliver the money.

She then noticed that her daughter was still holding Xiaoxue's hand, and smiled warmly, greeting her warmly:

"Little Snow is here. Are you hungry? Come and have a zongzi."

"Aunt Jiang, I... I'm not hungry."

Xiaoxue shook her head shyly. She originally wanted to go straight home, but Cao'er said she had candy and invited her to go home together to eat it.

She had never tasted sugar before, so she followed the grass home in a daze.

"Hey, we're family. From now on, when your sister marries into my family, she'll call me mother-in-law."

Jiang Yue said with a smile, then asked her daughter to take the person to wash their hands while she went to the kitchen to get some dumplings.

"Xiaoxue, don't be afraid. My mother is very gentle. I'll help you wash your hands. Sit on the chair for a while, and I'll go to your room to get you some candy."

Cao'er put down her basket full of wild vegetables and gestured for the other person to put it down as well. The well at home was behind them. She took Xiaoxue's hand and encouraged her to come inside and talk with her.

This was Xiaoxue's first time entering Cao'er's new home, and the more she looked, the more envious she became of Cao'er.

Grass's mother is just as gentle as her own mother.

"Splash~"

After washing her hands, Xiaoxue sat obediently on the chair in front of the stone table, waiting for Cao'er to bring her candy.

However, Jiang Yue was clearly faster at peeling the zongzi, and she also took a small plate containing white granular substances.

"Come on, Xiaoxue, try some of Auntie's rice dumplings. This is made with white sugar. Try dipping them in the sugar and see if you like them."

"Thank you, Auntie."

Xiaoxue stood up and quickly thanked him.

Under her aunt's warm hospitality, she couldn't resist reaching out and taking a zongzi (sticky rice dumpling), then, imitating her aunt, dipping it in white sugar...

Delicious, so sweet!

Xiaoxue squinted her eyes contentedly, savoring the rare delicacy in small bites.

Grass skipped and hopped out of the room, and when she saw her mother, she playfully stuck out her tongue and shrank back the candy in her hand...

She thought to herself, "If I give some of the candy my mother gave me to Xiaoxue, will my mother be angry?"

In fact, Jiang Yue was not angry at all; on the contrary, she thought it was a good thing that her daughter made friends and knew how to share.

Furthermore, to help her daughter get along more naturally with her friends, she left under the pretext of doing laundry.

"Grass, your mother is so kind."

Xiaoxue felt that candy was the most delicious treat, and in no time, she ate all the dumplings.

"That's right, my mother is the best mother in the world."

The little grass was first beaming with pride, then it handed over the candy wrapped in kraft paper and said:

"These are candies my mom gave me, I'll share half of them with you."

Xiaoxue looked shy, and after accepting the candy, she said earnestly:

"Yes, thank you, Cao'er. You are my best friend. When I can embroider a complete embroidery, I will give you a handkerchief."

"Okay, okay, then I want an orchid and a handkerchief with the moon on it."

The little grass clapped its hands, expressing its wish.

"Okay, I've got it."

......

Here, the two brothers, Da Niu and Er Gou, arrived at the old house.

Upon seeing the grandchildren from the third branch of the family arrive, Old Zhou didn't say a word. She cut a large watermelon into slices and personally handed them to her grandchildren.

Big Stone and Little Stone, watching from the side, were a little jealous, especially Little Stone, who ran over and reached out to ask for a watermelon.

"Grandma, I want to eat watermelon too!"

Old Mrs. Zhou tapped her grandson's head, reminding him:

"You little glutton, it's almost time to eat, so don't eat too much."

"Okay, milk~"

Xiao Shi got a watermelon, and his eyes narrowed into slits with laughter.

However, when he saw his sister washing clothes, he thought for a moment and handed the watermelon in his hand to his sister, and then asked his grandmother for another piece!

"You little rascal, you're so clever!"

When Old Mrs. Zhou saw this, she chuckled and immediately gave another piece of melon to her grandson.

Da Niu and Er Gou played with their second uncle's little brother for a while before throwing the watermelon rind into the bucket and explaining their purpose to their grandparents.

"Grandpa, Grandma, this is the money my mother asked us to bring."

On the octagonal table, Da Niu pulled out all the money from his pocket.

"Give money? What kind of money?"

Grandpa Wu asked in surprise, "My third son's wife has already sent the festival gifts for the zongzi festival, so there's no need to send money."

The next second, he was stunned to see Da Niu pull out some loose silver coins, two strings of cash, and some scattered copper coins from his pocket.

Where did all this money come from?!

"My goodness! Tell Grandma, is your mother sick? Why is she emptying the family coffers?"

Old Mrs. Zhou was startled, feeling both alarmed and relieved, fearing that something might have happened to her third son's wife, and thus entrusting her to her son on her deathbed.

The dishes that Da Zhou was carrying were almost dropped by her mother-in-law's shout, but thankfully, she managed to hold them steady!

The family slowly gathered around, seeing so much money laid out on the table for the first time, and they weren't even hungry anymore!

"Grandpa, Grandma, eldest uncle and aunt, second uncle and aunt, this is the money I earned from selling kudzu root powder during this period."

Mother said that the old family did all the work of digging and washing the kudzu root powder. The money earned, after deducting costs, will be divided in two: half will be sent to you, and the other half will stay with our family.

Da Niu explained the origin of the silver coins.

Upon hearing this, the others realized that Jiang's earlier promise to help them make money was true!

Old Master Wu stroked his beard, his smile undiminished, and he looked quite pleased with himself.

However, he glanced at his children and grandchildren, especially his two daughters-in-law, and said:

"Half? Half is too much. You brothers are out there selling noodles in the wind and sun, while we just sit back and reap the benefits..."

"Mother said that we Wu family members are of one mind, and life will definitely get better and better."

Mother also said that this money is rightfully the old house's, and she won't interfere with how it's divided. Furthermore, all the profits from kudzu root powder, after deducting costs, will be split equally between the old house and the family.

Da Niu had anticipated that his grandparents would decline, so he said what he had prepared.

No sooner had he finished speaking than Er Gou impatiently added:

"By the way, Grandpa, if Uncle and Second Uncle aren't busy, remember to dig up some more kudzu root powder to take home and wash. Erniu and I still want to sell it at our stall."

He and his older brother have to set up a stall every day, so they really don't have time to dig.

"I know, you brat, you're so impatient!"

Old Mrs. Zhou couldn't stop smiling. The more she looked at Da Niu and Er Gou, the more promising they seemed.

She had heard that the news of Da Niu and Er Gou setting up stalls in town from dawn till dusk had spread throughout Wu Family Village.

People were still laughing behind her back, saying that her sons, Da Niu and Er Gou, were out of their minds, wondering how they could make any money by setting up a stall. But now it seems that those villagers are the ones who are out of their minds!

Look how promising her grandsons are!

"Da Niu and Er Gou, I'll accept this money. Please thank your mother for me when you get back."

Grandpa Wu said with a smile that if he didn't accept the money, his third son's wife would probably be unhappy. Since that's the case, he would accept it and remember this favor.

"Old woman, catch an old hen, oh no, it's better to slaughter it, make soup and then send it to the third son's wife's house."

"Okay, I got it."

........
