Chapter 22 Going to Town

Chapter 22 Going to Town

The awkwardness was broken by Xie Qiushi.

"How would you like to make lunch?"

"Brother Zhao will eat with us at noon. Wash and chop the leeks and pork, then slice the potatoes. Wash the vegetables, heat up the steamed buns, and cook some rice."

Zhao Dunzi was not polite either: "There are too many brothers. Don't cook rice. Just have steamed buns."

"Okay, let's eat steamed buns as the staple food."

Xie Qiushi: "Okay, I'll go prepare the food."

Maybe it was because they had a heart-to-heart talk, Xie Shuangbai clearly felt that Zhao Dunzi was much closer to him, as if he really treated him as a younger brother.

Of course, he is also willing to return the kindness and sincerity of others.

So I made a big table of dishes for lunch.

Stir-fried potato slices.

Stir-fried pork belly with mushrooms,

Finally, I made a dumpling soup.

The round table was full.

Zhao Dunzi swallowed.

"so much?"

"Eat more." Xie Shuangbai said.

As soon as he finished speaking, Zhao Dunzi picked up a golden and round meatball.

"These vegetarian meatballs can be so delicious!"

"How can potatoes be so tasty?"

Zhao Dunzi would comment on every dish he ate. Seeing him eat with relish, Xie Shuangbai felt that the meal was worthwhile.

Zhao Dunzi smiled awkwardly:

"I'm so full. I didn't expect your cooking to be so delicious. I really want your sister-in-law to learn from you. Why don't you open a restaurant?"

Xie Shuangbai wiped his mouth and said, "It's okay to cook occasionally, but I can't handle cooking three meals a day."

Zhao Dunzi couldn't help but look at his body and shook his head.

"Actually, I also plan to make food, but not sell it."

"What are you selling?"

"Let's go to town tomorrow and see for ourselves."

"I have nothing to do these two days. How about I take you there tomorrow? I have a mule cart."

Xie Shuangbai was worried about the car, and since someone was going to give it to him, he didn't have to look for one.

"Okay, I'll pick you up tomorrow morning."

Xie Shuangbai: "Okay, you can have breakfast with me then."

Zhao Dunzi nodded: "Then I will come over at 3:00 AM."

Yin hour? Three o'clock?

"Isn't it too early in the morning?"

"It will take us two hours to get to town. If you want to go shopping, it will take another two hours to get back. We should go back at 5:00 PM, otherwise the road will be difficult to walk on when it gets dark."

Xie Shuangbai vomited blood: Four hours!

He was so frustrated that he was limp: "Okay, I'll do as you say."

After lunch, Xie Shuangbai saw Zhao Dunzi off and went to Carpenter Zhang's house to discuss the kang cabinet.

After he came back, he thought that he had to get up early the next day, so breakfast would have to be prepared even earlier. He wanted his sisters to sleep a little longer, so he simply made some pancakes and ate them in the car tomorrow.

Xie Qiushi really wanted to learn, so after Xie Shuangbai taught her how to make a few lasagna, he gave her full control of the kitchen.

He found that Daya loved cooking, which made him happy, and he planned to teach her all the dishes he knew.

In fact, he doesn't like cooking. If there were no dishes that suit his taste, he really wouldn't want to cook.

After handing over the kitchen to Daya, he went to make a shopping list.

There's a lot to buy tomorrow.

He wrote something on the paper and subconsciously touched his wallet, thinking that there should be enough money.

Xie Chunmiao interrupted him: "Brother, what do you want to eat for dinner?"

Xie Shuangbai looked up: "Are you ready to make dinner?"

He rubbed his eyes:

"I'm not eating anymore. You guys can make whatever you want. Have you decided what to buy tomorrow?"

Xie Qiushi remembered it clearly:

"Well, mainly we need to buy food and oil. We eat it too fast, especially the oil."

Xie Shuangbai: "You should eat when you need to. You are still growing. You can't ruin your body just to save a bite of food.

I'll go back to my room and sleep. I'll make dumpling soup and pancakes tomorrow morning, okay?"

Xie Qiushi couldn't bear to see his brother get up early, so he said, "Brother, I can make the dumpling soup. You sleep a little longer, and I'll make breakfast tomorrow."

"That's fine, you can rest for a while, don't stay up too late."

"knew."

In the evening, Xie Qiushi added water to the vegetarian meatballs left over from lunch to make soup, and heated up the leftover leeks and eggs. The three sisters ate it all with steamed buns.

Xie Chunmiao touched her stomach. It was great to be able to eat a full meal every day after the separation, but she was also afraid:

"Big sister, if we eat so much, will we eat our big brother out of money?"

Xie Qiushi: "Big brother told us not to save money."

Xie Xiachan took a bite of the steamed bun and said, "That's because Big Brother loves us. I think we should eat less."

Xie Qiushi paused while drinking his soup: "Big brother has done it hard for us, we can't help but think about him."

The three of them nodded and secretly decided to eat less from the next meal.

The next day, before the chickens in the village crowed, the courtyard gate was slammed loudly.

Xie Xiachan asked from inside the door: "Is that Brother Zhao?

She opened half the door, glanced at the person who came and said, "Come in."

"Is your brother up?"

"Just got up and is sitting in the main room."

Zhao Dunzi walked quickly across the yard and as soon as he came in, he saw Xie Shuangbai, who was sleepy and dazed, sitting in front of a huge round table.

He forced his eyes open and yawned, his eyes sparkling with tears, his pink lips were wet from being bitten by him, and the soft candlelight shining on his lips made them look particularly tempting.

Zhao Dunzi was stunned and coughed awkwardly: "Little brother, you...you should not get up so early from now on."

Then I muttered to myself: It’s not safe!

Xie Shuangbai said dazedly, "Well, I said it was too early. I was so sleepy that I couldn't even eat."

Xie Shuangbai, who was still sleepy, spoke in a soft voice, sounding like she was acting coquettishly.

Zhao Dunzi: Brother, you are really annoying!

Zhao Dunzi quickly shifted his gaze, saw the fried cakes on the table, and stammered, "Well, you can take a nap in the car and eat them when you wake up."

"Eat quickly, and then we'll leave."

The few of them quickly finished their meal, picked up their backpacks and got on Zhao Dunzi's mule cart.

The mule cart was very simple, without a carriage. It was just a cart attached to the back of a mule. It was probably used by Zhao Dunzi to transport goods. He even thoughtfully put a quilt under it.

Xie Shuangbai fell asleep as soon as he got in the car.

The dirt road was difficult to walk on and it was shaking, making him feel uncomfortable.

Like the first time I took a slow green train, it kept stopping and starting.

Xie Shuangbai slowly opened his eyes and for a moment thought he was on the bed in the room.

"Brother, wake up. I was so scared just now. You were so asleep that I couldn't wake you up." Xie Qiushi said worriedly.

Xie Shuangbai looked at her dazedly: "Really? I was too sleepy to hear it."

Seeing her brother like this, Xie Xiachan was worried: "Is your body okay?"

"It's nothing, I just didn't get enough sleep."

Zhao Dunzi was sitting on the shaft of the cart and heard their conversation.

"I'll take you for a walk in the mountains behind your house someday. Maybe you'll feel better. I guess you haven't been to the mountains behind your house yet!"

Xie Shuangbai thought about it and said, "Really? Then you can take us for a walk."

"No problem, you just need to get more sun. Look at your face, it's so pale, it's scary."

"Brother, have some bread. I also filled some boiled water for you. It's still warm."

It was Xie Shuangbai's rule that only boiled water should be consumed, and raw water was not allowed at home.

When he was building the kang beds, he asked for a stove in each room to boil and warm water.

In ancient times, there was no electricity, so it was really not easy to drink hot water at any time.

No wonder wealthy families had hundreds of maids. It’s not an exaggeration. In ancient times, everything had to be done manually.

"Thank you, Da Ya, Er Ya, San Ya!"

After saying that, he touched the little sister's head.

"Brother, why are you so polite? It's scary."

Xie Chunmiao touched her messed hair and looked at him in confusion.

Xie Qiushi handed over the pancake. Xie Shuangbai looked at the greasy pancake and suddenly lost his appetite, so he only ate half of it.

Xie Chunmiao: "Brother, your appetite is even worse than mine."

"Then you should eat more and grow taller."

The Xie family has good genes, and the members are all good-looking, and most importantly, they are not short.

Xie Shuangbai is 178 cm tall, which is considered tall in the Dayin Dynasty.

Even though the younger sisters have been exploited by the Huang family for many years, they are taller than ordinary girls. With adequate nutrition, they will have no problem growing to over 160cm.

"Brother, you've seen the town!" Xie Chunmiao shouted excitedly.

The other two also linked their arms excitedly.

It’s no wonder they were so excited. They had hardly left the village in all these years.

"Follow me for a while. Don't run around, or you might get kidnapped by human traffickers."

Xie Shuangbai gave careful instructions.

"Don't worry, brother. We will definitely follow you."

Xie Shuangbai didn't know whether Zhao Dunzi would go out to do something soon, so he asked:

"Brother Zhao, how about you?"

Zhao Dunzi said with a smile, "I will be with you today to protect the four of you."

Xie Shuangbai looked at himself and then at Zhao Dunzi. Although Brother Zhao was not as tall as him, he was really strong and could easily take down several people with one punch.

He always recognizes reality.

Before noon, there was already a long queue of farmers at the door who were going to the town to work or sell goods.

The town gate is not big. There are soldiers on the city wall, but not many.

It costs one penny per family to pass through the city gate, as long as they show proof. If there is no proof, it costs one penny per person.

Xie Shuangbai sat on the mule cart and listened to Zhao Dunzi's explanation.

He glanced at the people queuing up:

"This move can be regarded as benefiting the people."

"That's right. Ever since the Northern Territory was granted to the King of Liang, everyone has been worried about the arrival of someone..." Zhao Dunzi looked around and whispered, "someone who exploits the people's wealth. I didn't expect the King of Liang to actually work for the people."

Xie Shuangbai nodded and muttered, "King Liang."
