Chapter 34 Harvesting Soybeans
Most of the villagers were honest, and the beans they brought were really good and big. Of course, Xie Shuangbai accepted all of such good beans.
The villagers who received the money were also happy. Even after harvesting the beans, they did not leave but stood aside and watched. After all, there was nothing much to do in the village, so they might as well watch the fun here.
Wang Dadi checked the villagers one by one according to the order in which they lined up. Those who came earlier could see the village earlier, and those who came later stood at the back. It was very fair and no one had any complaints.
He glanced at the child who was next in line, opened the beans he brought, reached out and grabbed a handful. The black, flat beans were mixed with some small and ugly beans, and the bad beans accounted for the majority. His face turned black instantly.
"Hei Dou, your beans are not good!"
Hei Dou looked at Wang Dadi expressionlessly: "Uncle, my mother said it's okay."
Wang Dadi got angry when he heard this: "Are you going to collect the beans or am I going to collect the beans? Where's your mother?"
He shouted to the crowd, "Where are the black bean lady? Hurry up and take the beans away. Don't delay others."
The woman in the queue at the back looked at the people in front. She had been waiting for a long time and it was almost her turn, but the people in front of her hadn't moved. She also shouted anxiously: "Ms. Meng, please come out quickly. If you don't come out, the beans will be thrown at you!"
When she heard about throwing beans, Meng rushed out from some corner and said, "Don't throw beans at me. Who wants to throw beans at me?"
As she said that, she ran to Douzi like an old hen protecting her food.
Wang Dadi got a headache when he saw her. He pointed at the unqualified beans and said, "Take your soybeans away."
"Village Chief Wang, what do you mean? What's wrong with my beans? This is very bad!"
The Meng family is shamelessly cheating.
Wang Dadi was so angry that he glared at her: "You are cheering like this, let everyone see how deflated your beans are, you are cheering like this! Let me show you what cheering is!"
The village chief pointed at the good beans he had just harvested and said, "Look at theirs. There's nothing bad about them. They're plump and round. Look at yours! Hurry up and leave before you get in the way!"
The family whose beans were collected nodded proudly: "Look how good our beans are! We are honest people and we won't play tricks."
The family whose beans were collected turned around and looked at Mrs. Meng and said, "Ms. Meng, you are so dishonest. You are using these black and shrunken beans to fool the young scholar. We are all from the same village. It is dishonest of you to do things this way. You are bringing shame to us, the honest people."
Most of the villagers are honest people. They were also angry after hearing this. They cannot let such a cunning person influence them.
Meng was also confused for a moment. It was just collecting beans, why was it embarrassing? She didn't think there was anything wrong with her. It was just others who disliked her family and made trouble everywhere. She said unreasonably:
"I think you just can't stand our family, you just want to force us to death!"
The villagers were also stunned by what she said. How could she be forced to death?
An auntie was so angry that she said, "Ms. Meng, please leave immediately and stop making trouble. You're affecting everyone's bean harvest."
Xie Shuangbai saw the situation and said directly: "Your beans are no longer accepted, leave now."
"Why don't you accept it?"
Meng jumped three feet high and pointed at Xie Shuang and cursed.
Xie Shuangbai looked at the villagers queuing up and made sure everyone knew his bottom line and standards.
"Because you sold inferior goods as genuine ones and refused to admit it, you wasted everyone's time. How are you going to compensate everyone for their losses?"
Meng was too lazy to listen to him. She only understood that he had to pay compensation. She screamed in panic, "I don't have any money. I didn't break anything. Why should I pay? Don't try to blame me!"
Xie Shuangbai felt that she didn't understand what he was saying and was too lazy to say anything more.
"From now on, I won't accept anything from his family."
Meng was furious, but she had no other choice. The crowd was calling for her to leave. She sat on the ground beside them, shaking, holding the beans, and crying:
"It's terrible! The talented scholar from the surrounding area unexpectedly turned out to be such a cruel person and bullied my family. God damn, he is just as bad as others say."
An aunt didn't even give her face and scolded her directly:
"Bah! The young scholar accepted our beans, but you brought bad beans and they refused to accept them. And you still cursed at me! The wife of the Old Black family is really something! I've never seen such a shameless person!"
"No wonder his surname is Hei! He has a black heart!"
This sentence cursed the entire Hei family.
The eldest and second eldest sons of the Hei family in the crowd were so angry that their faces turned red, but there was nothing they could do. The third son, a bastard in his family, had already separated from them, and now they could not control him.
But he still felt suffocated when he heard people scolding the Lao Hei family.
The gangster's wife also cursed: "What a disgusting thing! Don't let her get us into trouble."
The second son's wife also agreed with the eldest sister-in-law's words and chimed in, "That's right. If she gets implicated and can't harvest beans, we won't forgive her!"
"Go ask Hei Dou to take her home. Don't embarrass yourself here."
The head of the Hei family went to look for Hei Dou angrily.
Fortunately, what they worried about did not happen. Xie Shuangbai was very fair and would accept any good item.
Xie Shuangbai looked at the pile of soybeans and saw that they were almost done.
He turned around and saw the old man who was staring at him while grinding soy milk that day. That look made him very uncomfortable.
He was just about to ask the aunt next to him who the old man was, but when he turned around, he disappeared.
He didn't bother to pay attention to the little incident because the beans had been collected in excess, but there were still many people queuing.
Xie Shuangbai whispered in Wang Dadi's ear, "Uncle, 150 bags is enough. I'm running out of money."
"It's okay, uncle will fill it for you first. These beans are really good. The first batch are all good. If you change later, they won't be as good, and the price might even go up."
Xie Shuangbai thought about it and agreed. After all, he was used to the modern loan model and didn't think there was anything wrong with borrowing money. After all, this business would definitely make money, and he could just pay Uncle Wang more interest when the time came.
Everyone was busy until it was almost dark before they finished harvesting beans for the day. Although there were a few troublesome households that delayed them a bit, in the end Xie Shuangbai banned them from buying anything from them, so they were able to finish before dark.
The old man who was staring at Xie Shuangbai did not leave. He kept watching him quietly until Xie Shuangbai finished harvesting the beans.
Xie Shuangbai knew nothing about this. Looking at the soybeans in front of him, he was lucky that he had asked Brother Wang to go to Carpenter Zhang's house to make 10 wooden boxes at noon, otherwise there would not be enough for tomorrow.
Cui looked at the mountain of beans in the yard and felt a little unsure: "Isn't the harvest a bit too much?"
Wang Dadi was not worried: "Don't worry, this may not be enough. I have already told them that I will accept it if it is not enough, but the quality must be the same as this time."
Seeing Wang Dadi say this, Cui Shi didn't say anything.
Then she worried again: "I have to grind a lot of beans tomorrow, right?"
Xie Shuangbai smiled and said, "Auntie is so kind to me. She's been so worried about me!"
"That's right! I don't even worry about my daughter this much!"
Speaking of her daughter, Cui said to Wang Shunyi, "When the tofu is ready tomorrow, buy two boxes and send them to your sister's house."
"Why do you want money? I'll save some for Sister Shunmei tomorrow. One box each of tender and old!"
He joked again: "Aunt, you are my creditor now!"
Cui was amused by him: "I think you are my little creditor, making me worry every day!"
Xie Shuangbai likes the Wang family very much. It always reminds him of the time he spent with his grandparents. They were also loved, pampered, and cared for in this way.
Xie Shuangbai held Cui's hand, which was covered with traces of life, and called softly, "Auntie~"
Cui touched his head and looked at him lovingly.
Wang Tiantian also ran over and grabbed Xie Shuangbai, asking him to hug her.
He picked up Tiantian and played with her.
Wang Shunyi came into the room and asked, "Is it okay if I soak a bag of beans?"
"Let's soak another bag. It's cold now and won't spoil easily. Grind one bag tomorrow."
Wang Shunyi nodded.
While Xie Shuangbai was thinking about how to arrange Tofu tomorrow, someone was eyeing him.
