Chapter 142 Little Succubus 1
The Knight Commander has a little succubus; this is an open secret among the Knights.
When Lu Chong opened the storage room door, Mu Yan was huddled in a pile of oats, shivering.
The heart-shaped tail was pitifully wrapped around its left leg, and the tail had lost its luster due to the lack of magic caused by hunger.
Hearing the sound of iron boots, the little succubus's fluffy, pointed ears twitched, but she didn't have the strength to lift her head to look at him.
“You’re stealing military rations again,” Lu Chong said, kneeling down on one knee and weaving half his body into the narrow storage room to pull the little succubus out. “I told you not to steal military rations.”
Mu Yan rubbed her wet nose against his wrist guard: "I'm hungry..."
"There's white bread and jam at home, why did you insist on eating these things here?" Lu Chong changed his position, supporting his legs to hold him more securely. "I know you can't eat these things, but I said I'd be back tonight. Why did you sneak off to the army?"
“This is the Holy City,” Lu Chong said in a low voice, lifting the man up and slamming him against the grain stack. “Do you know what the consequences are if you get caught?”
Mu Yan bumped her lower back lightly against a bag of rye. Although it didn't hurt much, she still let out a sob that sounded like a cry.
"Hungry......."
"My dear Yan Yan, what did you sneak to eat?" Lu Chong asked calmly and seriously, as if it really was as he said, and he was just checking if Mu Yan had eaten anything. "Did you eat it with the mouth on top, or...?"
“Take it off…” The leather gloves felt strange, and Mu Yan refused with a pitiful expression, “These are so uncomfortable.”
"Flour, honey, or baked rye bread?" Lu Chong obediently took off his gloves. "I need to check."
Lu Chong's questioning abruptly stopped as his fingertips brushed against a certain spot. He stared at his gloves, smiled slightly, and then smeared the residue from the gloves onto the tip of Mu Yan's tail.
Mu Yan's tail tip was also wet.
“Dirty…” Mu Yan said aggrievedly, but the wet glove was quickly handed to his mouth by Lu Chong.
"You've already played with it with your tail, why are you still complaining about it being dirty?"
Shame made Mu Yan's ears bleed, but the succubus's instinct prompted him to stick out his little tongue and clean himself obediently like a kitten licking milk.
"A kitten," Lu Chong thought to himself.
The kitten had been hungry for a while, which is why it disobeyed and ran out of the house. It wasn't the kitten's fault; the cat should have sealed all the doors and windows properly.
“I’m really hungry,” the kitten demanded of him matter-of-factly.
"I'll give it to you right away." Lu Chong kissed him.
......
As the morning light shone through the gaps in the tent, Lu Chong was taking a bath with his little succubus, who was soaking wet.
After eating his fill, Mu Yan clung contentedly to Lu Chong. Despite not being sleepy, he let Lu Chong bathe him as if he had no bones.
For the first time ever, the Knight Commander wasn't wearing armor. His muscular chest still bore the red marks from the frantic scratches he'd made the night before. His right hand, usually clad in metal gauntlets, was now gently combing Mu Yan's tail, occasionally scratching the sensitive base of the tail.
“Baby,” Lu Chong suddenly said, “Next week, we’re going on an eastern expedition to defeat the Black Dragon Augustus.”
Augustus......
Mu Yan froze instantly.
Succubi are creations of the abyss. Before Lu Chong found her, Mu Yan had a vague impression of that black dragon.
When Augustus spread his wings, they could cover the valley; when he roared, torrents would rush down and boulders would roll down the mountainside.
"Please take me with you." Mu Yan sat up straight. "I can..."
“You can sense the dragon's breath in advance, and you know some simple spells.” Lu Chong seemed to have guessed what he was going to say, and calmly cut him off.
"But that's not the case. Augustus is in great danger and may not return. Even I can't guarantee my own safe return, let alone protect you."
How could this be? Mu Yan stared blankly at him. The Knight Commander was the most powerful and omnipotent person he had ever met.
Mu Yan suddenly pounced on him and bit his Adam's apple, leaving crescent-shaped marks on Lu Chong's skin with his sharp teeth.
This is the most primitive form of contract between succubi and some other abyssal monsters, meaning that the marked person is their property, and if something happens to the marked monster, it is due to the incompetence of the markr.
If the marked monster dies, the monster that marked it will never live on its own.
Lu Chong, however, seemed to have misunderstood something. He simply chuckled softly and then gently pressed down on the fluffy head.
"Don't whine."
“As long as I’m with the Knight Commander,” Mu Yan nestled in his arms and said earnestly, word by word, “I’m not afraid to die.”
Mu Yan first met Lu Chong two years ago.
That was when he had just left the Abyss. At that time, he did not know that he was a succubus and thought that he was just one of the thousands of low-level monsters in the Abyss.
He followed his instinct to leave the abyss, which was sometimes freezing cold and sometimes scorching hot, and was not afraid of the wind and sun along the way. When he was hungry, he picked wild fruits and drank mountain spring water when he was thirsty.
In some towns, there were families whose ancestors had died because of the theft of their sheep, and Mu Yan dared not go near those places.
But at some point, the wild fruits gradually became insufficient to fill their stomachs. Mu Yan tried his best to pick a lot of fruits, but he still became hungrier and hungrier.
What he didn't know was that his body had already matured, like a ripe wild fruit.
As he grew increasingly hungry, his consciousness became more and more blurred. One day, when he woke up, he found himself hiding in an unfamiliar tent.
"My lord, is there the aura of a demon?" the attendant asked, noticing the knight commander's somewhat grave expression.
Lu Chong glanced at the servant beside him and, seeing his blank expression, confirmed that he had not smelled the strange fragrance in the air.
"Should we be on guard?" the attendant asked again.
Holding his sword, Lu Chong lifted the curtain and stepped out of the tent, with his attendants following behind him, cautiously observing their surroundings.
In the military camp, the patrolling soldiers carried out their missions as planned. The magic array used to scout the enemy's situation remained silent, with only the moonlight flowing across it.
Lu Chong became even more certain that the source of the fragrance was inside the tent; the fragrance was like an invisible hook tugging at his nerves.
It's like honey from a monastery cellar, but far sweeter.
“It’s alright,” Lu Chong smiled faintly at his adjutant beside him. “I was overthinking it. Let’s lift the alert.”
The moonlight was still, and the sound of military boots rustling over withered branches filled the air. Lu Chong lifted the curtain and entered the military tent.
The military tent was silent, as if the presence of the uninvited guest was merely Lu Chong's illusion.
"I've found you."
Mu Yan let out a cry of surprise, and then his wrist was grabbed accurately and he was dragged out from under the bed without any mercy.
He was a tall and imposing knight, his cold eyes and brows not concealing his handsome features. The red sash fluttered gently onto Mu Yan's bare thighs, making them itch slightly.
Itchy... Why is it itchy? I have scales on my body, he shouldn't be able to feel them.
The boy's porcelain-white wrist turned slightly red from Lu Chong's grip. Realizing he had hurt him, Lu Chong instinctively let go.
No, he wasn't a boy; he was a succubus, a monster from the abyss, a succubus that needed to be purified.
There are two methods of purification. One is a technique controlled only by the Holy See, which can turn succubi into pure monks. They will no longer have any impure thoughts, nor will they need to eat. Their eyes will be pure and empty. They will quietly chant scriptures, listen to the people's confessions, and sweep fallen leaves for the Holy See.
One method, which even a paladin like Lu Chong would use, is to kill on the spot.
Lu Chong placed his hand on the sword.
He was the commander of the Knights. To let the boy go would mean betraying the doctrine, betraying the holy city that had nurtured him, and betraying the Knights he was so proud of.
The boy looked up at her with his wet eyes. In fact, Lu Chong knew that succubi were heartless creatures, and he might not have been looking at her.
So hungry... So dizzy... Mu Yan thought groggily.
Is it food? He seems to have come here in search of food.
He reached out to the tall figure in a daze, but froze when he saw the holy emblem on the other's chest.
Holy emblem.......
Other monsters told him that their kind who had stolen the villagers' sheep and died were killed by people wearing such items.
His body, starved for three days, had no time to escape. A golden light flashed, and chains carrying a sacred warmth wrapped around his ankles.
“I didn’t…” The chains tightened suddenly, and the pain of the holy light burning his skin brought tears to Mu Yan’s eyes. He watched in despair as the knight approached step by step, the gleaming boot toes stopping in front of his nose.
"I really didn't steal any sheep," Mu Yan cried uncontrollably. "Please don't kill me. I'll stay far away from here. I'll never do it again..."
"Name?" The knight used his sword sheath to lift his chin.
The chains, gleaming with holy light, flickered with the man's emotions, leaving pale golden marks on Mu Yan's fair ankles.
He cowered and tried to back away, but his tail, against his will, wrapped around the knight's calf.
The monster's instincts were screaming warnings of danger, but its ravenous body was drawn to the powerful energy emanating from the creature.
The person in front of me... he can feed himself.
"I don't know..." he answered softly.
The chains were silent, and Lu Chong knew the little succubus wasn't lying.
Only high-level monsters have names, and their names are often the lifeblood that can kill them. Monsters without names have probably only recently gained intelligence, and the worst thing they've ever done is steal a chicken from a farmer.
Succubi are small and weak, so even something as simple as stealing chickens can easily get them caught in the act.
"If nothing unexpected happens, she's a little succubus who has never harmed anyone," Lu Chong thought to himself.
The boy continued to look at him with wet eyes. Lu Chong certainly hated demons and was ruthless and decisive in killing them. But what appeared before him now was a demon who had never harmed anyone, yet had the appearance of a human boy.
Suddenly, the thin boy curled up, clutching his stomach and letting out a suppressed groan. A sickly crimson tinge appeared around the succubus tattoo on his lower abdomen.
He had been hungry for too long.
Lu Chong's pupils suddenly contracted.
He certainly knew how succubi survived, and military regulations therefore explicitly prohibited paladins from contacting such monsters.
But the little succubus was curled up on the ground, her back slightly tense from the pain, and her gaze toward him was weak and sad.
I have done nothing wrong, so why should I suffer like this?
My lord, if you cannot help me, then please... grant me a release.
