Chapter 16 You Actually Know Too

Chapter 16 You Actually Know Too

"Keep it for your roommate, I can't eat it," Lu Chong said coldly.

He had a sullen face, and it was unclear what he was angry about this time.

Mu Yan paused for a moment, then lowered his head and continued eating without saying anything more.

His silence made Lu Chong even more irritated. However, for Lu Chong, when he wanted to get angry, no matter what Mu Yan did, it would only make him want to get even angrier.

"Mu Yan, what does it mean by not saying anything? Do you think I'm being unreasonable and irrational, or do you think you have nothing to say to me?"

Mu Yan briefly raised her head to look at him, then quickly lowered her eyes again.

“If I say anything, you’ll say I’m arguing with you for the sake of outsiders.”

From the beginning of their relationship until now, Mu Yan and Lu Chong have hardly ever argued. Mu Yan has always had an exceptionally good temper, especially when dealing with Lu Chong. He is like a man without a temper, and no matter how unreasonable Lu Chong is, he will never get angry.

Every time they had a disagreement, it was almost always Lu Chong who would sulk, and then Mu Yan would quickly coax him back to peace.

This was the first time Lu Chong had ever seen Mu Yan so eloquent when arguing.

Just a few words were enough to leave him speechless.

Lu Chong raised his voice: "So you can ignore me then?"

"Actually, you've done this to me many times. When you're unhappy, you just stay silent like this."

Mu Yan said softly, "Actually, you know this will make people sad, don't you?"

But... you don't really care whether I'm sad or not.

The kitchen suddenly fell silent, as if the atmosphere had suddenly plummeted to freezing point.

Looking across the narrow table, Mu Yan's gaze fell on the face of the person opposite him.

Realizing his mistake was harder than climbing to heaven for Lu Chong. His face darkened further, and he slammed the kitchen door shut before walking out without looking back.

The old wooden door, subjected to such violent treatment, let out a pitiful scream. Mu Yan was left alone in the kitchen once again.

The steam from the dishes had dissipated, so Mu Yan didn't chase after them.

All he wants to do right now is finish his meal.

After Lu Chong's commotion, the food got a little cold. Mu Yan quickly finished the rice in his bowl, leaving half of the dishes uneaten.

He took a deep breath, calmed himself down, and then pushed open the door, thinking that if Lu Chong hadn't left home, he would coax him back for dinner.

He had known Lu Chong for so long, and he had seen Lu Chong's terrible temper, but he had always remembered Lu Chong's good points.

Lu Chong was only twenty-four years old. He understood Lu Chong's immaturity, impulsiveness, and inability to love. He knew that Lu Chong was not a bad person at heart.

But when will he grow up? When will he mature?

Lu Chong was neither in the living room nor in the bedroom; he must have gone out.

Lu Chong would never eat leftovers, so Mu Yan silently threw away the leftovers, cleaned the table, and then washed the dishes.

As Mu Yan washed the dishes, he silently calculated that today was Saturday and tomorrow was Sunday, and it was his turn to accompany his mother to dialysis this week. He needed to rest early today so that his mother wouldn't notice that he looked unwell.

After clearing away the dishes, he sat on the sofa and randomly picked up a game cartridge to play. He had won the game console at last year's company annual meeting. When he found out that the second prize was a game console, he was quite disappointed because the third prize was 888 yuan in cash.

However, after giving it to Lu Chong, Lu Chong seemed to like it quite a bit and bought a lot of cards to bring back.

Lu Chong was happy, and so was Mu Yan. He quickly put the 888 yuan cash prize he had missed out on out of his mind.

Mu Yan didn't have any particular hobbies. In the first twenty years of his life, besides studying, making a living took up almost all of his free time.

Spending time doing things to please himself was a luxury for him; for a poor man, both money and time were extremely scarce. So much so that even when he later had time, he would only circle around Lu Chong like a stupid dog.

On the screen, a comical little figure was spraying ink while wielding a weapon. Mu Yan played with it for a while, but found it less interesting than when he watched Lu Chong play it.

He sent Lu Chong a message, telling him to remember to eat, that it was cold at night, and not to stay outside for too long or he would catch a cold.

Lu Chongcai sent a message after he had played another game.

"So what if I'm sick? It's none of your business."

It's nine o'clock now, and even lying in bed, it's impossible to fall asleep at this hour. But Mu Yan felt the game was boring, so he put the game console away.

He called Lu Chong, and the phone rang for a long time. Just as Mu Yan was about to hang up, the call was finally answered.

"Have you eaten?" Mu Yan asked softly.

“I ate. Do you think I would starve to death without you?” Lu Chong said sarcastically.

Mu Yan ignored the veiled barb in his tone: "Don't be angry, come back to sleep. Your studio still has an autumn blanket, it'll be cold."

Lu Chong didn't speak. Just when Mu Yan thought he was about to say "What's it to you?" again, Lu Chong replied with an "Oh".

Mu Yan waited until 10:30, but Lu Chong still hadn't returned. Not wanting to nag like a complaining woman, he simply left the living room light on for him and went to sleep.

After sleeping for a long time, Mu Yan was vaguely awakened by the sound of Lu Chong entering the room. One o'clock, two o'clock? After checking the time, Mu Yan found it difficult to fall back asleep, so he simply closed his eyes and continued to sleep.

When he woke up the next day, he found that Lu Chong was sleeping while holding him. Mu Yan had stuffed a doll into his arms and got up early.

Mu Yan's wardrobe was filled with clothes that were either black, gray, or white. His mother always said that young people shouldn't always wear such dull colors, so he deliberately picked out the only sky-blue down jacket in his wardrobe. Standing in front of the mirror, the vibrant color of the jacket seemed to make him look a few years younger.

No matter how many disappointments he had in his life, he didn't want to bring those negative things to his mother.

"Xiao Yan's here!" The aunt in the next bed greeted him with a smile. "The one I told you about last time, my colleague's daughter, she graduated from Normal University and is now a teacher at the Affiliated High School of University A. Have you considered her?"

"Oh," Mu Yan poured the fish soup from the thermos into his mother's hands, and said to the aunt in the next bed, "I haven't settled into a stable job yet, and my salary isn't high. Don't hold that girl back."

My mother's first husband was an alpha with a bad temper who liked to drink. When he was drunk, he would beat my mother and brother. My mother had expressed her dissatisfaction with alphas more than once.

Mu Yan had never dared to tell her about Lu Chong. When they first got together, he thought Lu Chong was as outstanding as the moon in the sky, and that someone like that could never go far with him no matter what.

He felt there was no need to let his mother know, and that it would only make her angry.

They kept it a secret, and it's dragged on until now.

Mu Yan's mother was always very proud of him. He had overheard her boasting on many occasions that her youngest son was good-looking, academically gifted, and had been admitted to A University, where he worked for a large company. Many of his mother's friends believed her and introduced him to several attractive beta girls.

In reality, he got into University A through sheer hard work and studying; besides a degree from University A, he had nothing else.

Fortunately, after he told them about his family situation, the beta girls politely backed off, saving him the trouble of rejecting them.

While his mother was drinking the fish soup he had brought, Mu Yan didn't sit idle. He took out a few fruits from the fruit he had brought and gave them to the aunt next door. Then he took another bag of fruit to find the nurse who had been taking care of his mother.

"Mr. Mu, it's you. I heard you were here and was just about to come find you."

"It's Sunday today, so I'm picking my mom up for dialysis. I brought you some fruit..."

Mu Yan handed over the fruit as usual, but surprisingly, the nurse did not reach out to take it.

"I... it's like this, if it's convenient, Mr. Mu, could you please pay the dialysis fee first?"

"Ms. Mu Juanhua's dialysis fees have been in arrears for six months. Because you and Mr. Lin have been very proactive and frequent in paying, we haven't urged you to pay. However, our hospital's maximum payment limit for dialysis before payment is 70,000 yuan, so..."

"How could you be in arrears?" Mu Yan was taken aback. "Isn't the dialysis fee always deducted from the card? There's 100,000 yuan on the card, enough to last until next May."

"Could there be a problem with the hospital system?" Mu Yan's tone was overly surprised, and given his usual thoughtfulness and filial piety towards his mother, the nurse was also uncertain. "I have to go to work soon, Mr. Mu, why don't you go check with the finance department yourself? Logically, there shouldn't be any problems..."

Mu Yan thanked the nurse and immediately ran to the finance department to verify, but the result was just as the nurse had said: the bill showed that there had been outstanding fees since April.

This was the first time the finance department had encountered a question about a system malfunction. The omega looked up at Mu Yan with some confusion: "Sir, is this your own bank card? Perhaps you could check if there's a problem with the card?"

Mu Yan shook his head: "It's not mine, it belongs to my mother. But there should have been 100,000 yuan in there."

"This... could it be fraudulent use, or are you mistaken? Why don't you pay the debt first? The hospital can only accept a maximum of 70,000 yuan in debt. If you don't pay the debt, your mother probably won't be able to have dialysis today."

The nurse felt as if the beta youth in front of her had suddenly turned into a robot with its battery depleted. After nearly a minute, he stood up from the stool and slowly said, "Thank you."

The hospital elevator happened to be broken that day, and Mu Yan didn't know how he climbed from the first floor of the finance department to the sixth floor.

He lingered outside his mother's hospital room for a while, listening to her laughter and conversation with the woman in the next bed, and hearing her praise the oranges Mu Yan had bought for being so sweet.

Really, Xiao Lu? You know you're being unreasonable?
