Chapter 120 "I don't want to go out."
“…Okay,” Mu Yan paused slightly before smiling a little embarrassedly, “This skewer is for you. I’ll grill it carefully…maybe it will be more flavorful if it gets punctured.”
Because of all the terrible things that have happened, Mu Yan subconsciously tries to think positively no matter what happens.
Lu Chong moved the pot of mushrooms a little closer to him, took a handful of skewers, and quietly sat down to help Mu Yan skewer the mushrooms.
His movements were not as skillful as Mu Yan's. After failing to string three sticks at once, he patiently sat down and strung them onto the sticks one by one.
Mu Yan initially thought he was just trying to save face and give her a way out, but even after the whole pot of mushrooms was finished, he still showed no intention of leaving. Instead, he picked up an eggplant from the ground.
"Should this also be cut into small pieces and skewered?"
It was clear that he didn't usually go into the kitchen at home, so Mu Yan quickly shook his head: "No need for that. This is just brushed with oil and grilled for a while, then cut open and added sauce before grilling."
"I see. It sounds delicious. You know so much, you're amazing."
Mu Yan didn't think it was anything to praise, and when he was told that, his ears turned bright red, and he subconsciously lowered his head.
"Isn't Lu going to play with them...?"
"It doesn't mean anything," Lu Chong replied.
Billiards, karaoke, video games—Mu Yan had never played any of these before, but he thought they would be quite interesting. However, Lu Chong was different from him; he had probably already gotten tired of these things long ago.
"These are all social games. These social games are only fun when you play with people you want to get close to; otherwise, it's a waste of time."
But wouldn't that be a waste of time for me? Mu Yan didn't immediately understand what he meant, and just gave a hasty "hmm" before running to turn on the range hood and oven to preheat.
"There will be smoke in a while, it will be very pungent, Lu, you should go out first."
"I don't want to go out." Lu Chong said something that sounded a bit like a rogue. Mu Yan looked up at him, not quite understanding what he meant.
Lu Chong moved a chair over, picked up the tongs for catching charcoal, and sat down next to Mu Yan, helping him tend to the charcoal fire.
"Hey classmate, you can start grilling now," the club leader said as he pushed open the door. He was clearly taken aback when he saw Lu Chong. "Senior Lu? What are you doing here? We thought you were upstairs in your room because it was too noisy."
"Hmm," Lu Chong replied casually, without answering his question, "What should we bake first?"
"Ah..." The club leader took a moment to realize that he was asking on behalf of the student who worked part-time what to grill first. "Let's grill lamb or pork belly first."
“Okay,” Mu Yan replied, “I’ll send it out right away in a little while.”
Mu Yan had worked at a barbecue restaurant before, so he was quite skilled at grilling. However, Lu Chong was always standing very close to him, which made him feel a little uncomfortable. He had to be very careful when flipping the skewers, always afraid that his elbow would accidentally bump into Lu Chong.
As if realizing something, the person next to him suddenly walked away. Mu Yan couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief and glanced out of the corner of his eye at the dozen or so skewers of mutton on Lu Chong's side to see if they needed to be flipped.
Actually, even without Lu Chong's help, Mu Yan could handle it on his own, though he would be a little flustered.
Lu Chong walked back to the original spot and carefully wiped the sweat from Mu Yan's forehead with a clean tissue.
His fingers and the tissue in his hand cast a shadow, dimming the light slightly before it quickly returned to normal. Mu Yan stood frozen for a moment before realizing that Lu Chong had already withdrawn his hand.
"Thanks."
The lamb skewers were almost ready. Lu Chong took out a few skewers and placed them aside, then divided the rest into two plates and took them out.
Mu Yan assumed he was going to come in and eat by himself later, so he didn't ask any more questions and immediately started grilling other things.
The door was pushed open, and Lu Chong walked in again. He was a little surprised to see that the skewers he had placed aside hadn't been touched.
"Besides barbecue, they also ordered pizza and fried chicken. You don't need to grill it so quickly, you can take a break. I saved a few skewers for you, why aren't you eating them?"
"I'm not hungry, I've already eaten," Mu Yan replied with a smile.
These barbecues were naturally bought with their club's funds or paid for by the members themselves. The person in charge didn't say he could eat with them, so Mu Yan naturally wouldn't eat their food.
Mu Yan was too serious, and Lu Chong was at a loss with him. He didn't plan to eat with these people, and even if he had to pay for his share to Mu Yan, he would definitely not take advantage of them.
But Lu Chong didn't say anything more. He and Mu Yan finished grilling the remaining skewers and took them out.
When Mu Yan finished washing the dishes and clearing the table, the people in the room had already finished a round of drinks. A few alphas came in to get some fresh iced beer, so Mu Yan took a few bottles out for them.
Everyone in the room was already a little drunk. When Mu Yan put the beer on the table, someone suddenly grabbed his arm and pulled him to the sofa.
Mu Yan was already bent over and his center of gravity was not very stable. When someone pulled him, he suddenly fell down onto the sofa.
The alpha who had grabbed him was a little drunk. He called out the name of someone Mu Yan didn't recognize, then ripped open a can of beer and handed it to Mu Yan.
Mu Yan knew he wasn't deliberately making things difficult, so she explained gently and softly, "I'm not the person you're talking about. I'm just here for a part-time job..."
“Hey part-timers, want a drink too?” another person egged on. “We won’t charge you for the drinks.”
"Drink it, don't spoil the fun. How about this, you have two hundred tonight, right? I'll give you another hundred after you finish drinking," the club leader Mu Yan knew said half-jokingly.
Surrounded by the sofa and coffee table, Mu Yan raised his eyes somewhat uncomfortably. He had always had a bad impression of drunkards, and regardless of whether these people had any ill intentions, they still made him feel uncomfortable. He wanted to find a chance to leave as soon as possible, but he found Lu Chongzheng standing not far away, looking at the alpha beside him with a sullen face.
Then he walked over, picked up the can of beer next to Mu Yan, and drank it all in one gulp amidst the silent gazes of everyone.
While drinking, his Adam's apple bobbed, and the veins on his neck became prominent.
The empty can was placed on the table with a soft "thump," and he reached out to pull Mu Yan up.
"We were just joking with him, we weren't bullying him..." The alpha who had started the commotion seemed to suddenly sober up and said with an embarrassed smile.
For some reason, the people in this club all seemed eager to curry favor with Lu Chong. Lu Chong ignored their explanations and grabbed Mu Yan's wrist through the thin sleeve of his jacket: "I'm drunk. Let him take me out for some fresh air."
Alpha's body temperature was slightly higher than Mu Yan's, but it wasn't the kind of fever that makes you feel hot. However, he had a very indifferent face, which always made people feel inexplicably uncomfortable.
It looks like a melting glacier, or a volcano about to freeze.
The corridor was empty. Lu Chong didn't let go of his hand and led him out of the party venue. The night breeze was a bit chilly, but Mu Yan felt that his palms were sweating.
"I've been drinking, I can't drive." When he walked into the yard, Lu Chong suddenly stopped and said with some regret as he looked at the black sedan parked there.
Mu Yan was stunned for a moment before realizing that when he said he was going out to get some fresh air, he didn't actually mean he was coming to the yard to get some fresh air.
"What's wrong?" Lu Chong asked. "Is there something you haven't finished taking care of, or did you leave something behind? I'll go get it for you."
"That's all." Mu Yan's job was just to help with the barbecue, and after that, there was nothing else to do.
Lu Chong took him to a barbecue restaurant by taxi. Even though it was well past lunchtime, there were still many people there for a late-night snack.
Lu Chong didn't ask him what he wanted to eat, but simply ordered almost all the meat skewers from the barbecue restaurant.
Unlike the skateboarding club's offerings, the meat skewers here have large chunks of meat, each skewer feeling quite heavy in your hand. The mutton fat is grilled until slightly charred, making it not greasy at all.
After a while, the boss came over and asked Lu Chong and Mu Yan if they had any other friends coming.
Hearing Lu Chong's reply of no, the owner smiled somewhat awkwardly: "Handsome, you two probably can't finish a whole roasted lamb."
"I know, just add the lamb leg, then some other meat, and you can have the rest as a midnight snack."
Lu Chong was dressed and had an impressive air about him, certainly not someone who was short of money. Before Mu Yan could stop him, the shopkeeper immediately agreed with a beaming smile.
Actually, when Mu Yan was grilling meat skewers for the skateboarding club members at the party venue, he did have a bit of a craving for barbecue. The aroma of grilled meat mixed with the smell of cumin filled his nostrils, and even though he had eaten beforehand, he still felt a little tempted.
As Mu Yan was grilling the meat, he thought to himself, "I've earned two hundred yuan today. Should I splurge tomorrow and eat the sixteen-yuan grilled meat rice bowl from the cafeteria?"
But he felt that he hadn't shown it at all at the time, and he didn't know how Lu Chong could tell, or whether he wanted to eat it himself.
The barbecue was delicious, even better than what Mu Yan had grilled himself. The lamb wasn't gamey at all, and the beef was grilled to a tender perfection.
In the clear glass, cola bubbles kept rising from the glass wall, then surfaced and burst.
Opposite their table was a round table. Perhaps because the two tables were a bit close together, Lu Chong did not sit opposite them, but sat next to Mu Yan.
This is actually not good, because if Mu Yan wants to see him, she has to turn her face quite a bit.
You can't... sneak a peek.
It was a bit hot at the barbecue restaurant, so Mu Yan and Lu Chong took off their jackets and hung them on the back of their chairs. Later, when they finished their drinks, Lu Chong said he would go and urge the food to be served, and asked Mu Yan to get two cans of Coke.
After finishing the barbecue, it was almost time for A University's curfew. After Lu Chong stood up, Mu Yan hurriedly draped her coat over her hand and tried to catch up with him.
Lu Chong smiled and told him that it was windy outside and he should put on some clothes.
When Mu Yan returned to the dormitory that night, his face was red. Yao Zhiyuan and Han Xiao joked with him, asking if he had met a pretty female student. He Fan seemed a little sullen. When he came in, he only greeted him and then put on his headphones to listen to music again.
"No, there aren't any pretty female students. The skateboarding club... has more alphas." Mu Yan couldn't lie, and was especially embarrassed by this question. "I'm going to take a shower now."
Mu Yan thought his roommates had already showered. Before taking off his coat, he habitually checked his pockets for tissues, but unexpectedly pulled out two hundred-yuan bills from his coat.
