Chapter 103 Important People
Although he was still jet-lagged, Mu Yan slept quite well that night, perhaps because Jiajia's children's milk had helped.
Because Mu Yan had slept on the plane the day before, he woke up very early. Xiang Zhuo probably had something on his mind, so he didn't sleep too late either. The surgery was scheduled for 8:30, and the two of them arrived at their usual breakfast shop near the hospital before 6:30.
After the two finished breakfast, they arrived at the ward at 6:30 a.m. with their breakfast. The ward was still dark.
Mu Yan and Xiang Zhuo then realized that they had arrived a bit too early, and the cold steamed buns wouldn't taste good. Xiang Zhuo gave the breakfast to the nurse on night shift, planning to buy new ones after Lin Yi and Mu Juanhua woke up.
It was almost eight o'clock when Mu Juanhua and Lin Yi woke up. Xiang Zhuo ran to buy them breakfast and asked if Mu Yan, the donor, wanted some as well.
Mu Yan messaged Lu Chong's assistant, who replied almost instantly, saying it wasn't necessary and that he had already arranged everything.
Although they knew beforehand that the success rate of the surgery could reach 95% to 98% or even higher, when Mu Juanhua was actually wheeled into the operating room and the "Operating" sign lit up, the three people outside the operating room still couldn't help but feel anxious.
Those were three agonizing hours. Every time medical staff occasionally went in and out of the operating room, it made the three of them hold their breath.
Time seemed to crawl by. Mu Yan's brother kept glancing at his phone every few minutes. Mu Yan noticed his nervousness and patted his hand to comfort him. His brother, however, tried to cover it up by saying he wasn't nervous and that everything would go smoothly.
Mu Yan wasn't much better off. Several times she felt dizzy and nauseous, but she endured it for fear of being questioned by Lin Yi and Xiang Zhuo. She only started to gag when she went to a toilet stall and clutched her chest.
Fortunately, the surgery went very smoothly. More than four hours later, the doctor came out of the operating room and told them that the surgery was very successful. Mu Juanhua was still in the ICU and needed to be observed for about an hour as part of the routine procedures.
"It's already 12 o'clock. Family members can go eat first. We will arrange a separate nutritious meal after the patient wakes up. There's nothing special to pay attention to during post-operative recovery, but the immune system will be relatively weak. If any family members have a cold or fever, please don't come to take care of the patient. You should all be aware of this."
"Thank you, doctor. Thank you, doctor..."
"You're welcome, it's my duty. We'll go have lunch now." The doctor smiled and turned to leave with his colleague.
Mu Yan's legs went weak instantly, and she slumped onto the metal benches in the hospital, panting heavily. Lin Yi wasn't much better off; she was being held in Xiang Zhuo's arms, laughing and crying at the same time.
"That's good news. What are you two doing..." Xiang Zhuo took out tissues from his bag and handed them to Mu Yan, then wiped away his wife's tears. "Alright, alright, it's okay to cry if you want to..."
Lin Yi wiped away her tears and smiled, "Don't cry, I'm starving. Let's go eat. You two had breakfast so early, how come you don't feel hungry?"
Mu Yan realized he had lost his composure and told Lin Yi and Xiang Zhuo that he was going to the restroom to wash his face and would find them at the cafeteria downstairs in the hospital later.
“No more boxed lunches,” Lin Yi reached out and ruffled Mu Yan’s hair. “Let’s go out to eat. We’ve been eating at this hospital cafeteria for so many years, we’re sick of it. Let’s go eat at that beef hot pot place nearby. We’ll go get a number first, and you can come find us after you’re done using the restroom.”
Mu Yan knew which restaurant he was talking about. That beef hot pot restaurant was very expensive, costing four or five hundred yuan for three people per meal, and there were always long queues every day. Even though it was just across the street from the hospital they frequented, they had never eaten there once in all these years.
“But with your throat like this,” Lin Yi snapped out of her thoughts, then frowned slightly as if remembering something, “can we have hot pot?”
“It’s not because I’m too hot to speak,” Mu Yan typed to explain. “I can eat it, and I want to eat it too.”
“Okay,” Lin Yi smiled, her eyes red, “then let’s go order first.”
Mu Yan nodded vigorously, his eyes were red, and his vision was not very clear because of the tears.
Despite it being a happy occasion, Mu Yan couldn't hold back her tears. She felt utterly pathetic looking like this, so she lowered her head and quickly made her way through the crowd, wanting to wash her face as soon as possible.
It was truly a blessing from heaven, and I am so grateful to that kind person who was willing to donate liver cells.
The more she felt she shouldn't cry, the more uncontrollable the tears became. Mu Yan quickly wiped away her tears, trying to calm herself down.
Suddenly, a somewhat familiar figure flashed by in the crowd. The hem of his beige trench coat was lifted by the air currents, and he quickly disappeared around the corner, like an autumn leaf that had been swept away by chance.
Mu Yan paused for a moment, then instinctively chased after him.
The back view of that person just now... looks like He Fan.
But why is He Fan avoiding me? I'm clearly worried about him too.
Mu Yan couldn't call out, so he quickened his pace and finally caught up with the person at the end of the corridor. But when he tried to grab the person's clothes, he missed.
Mu Yan's legs were already a little weak, and he almost lost his balance when the person seemed to have eyes in the back of his head and turned around at that moment, reaching out to steady him.
He Fan was wearing a black mask, his eyes were bloodshot, and there were still purplish marks on the back of his neck. Although he was wearing long sleeves, there were still traces of blood scabs on his wrists.
How did it get like this........
Have He Fan been having a bad time these days?
He Fan looked down at him, her eyes filled with sadness. Mu Yan didn't like being stared at like that and wanted to tell him that he was fine and that his wounds no longer hurt.
He Fan suddenly bent down and, through the gauze, very gently kissed the wound on Mu Yan's forehead.
It was less of a kiss and more like a light brush against a feather. Through the gauze, I couldn't feel the warmth of my lips, and the touch was brief.
"elder brother........."
He Fan choked up, barely able to speak.
Mu Yan was startled, and his eyes reddened again. He grasped He Fan's hand and wrote words carefully in his palm:
"Xiao Fan, why did you run away just now?"
He Fan lowered his head, his Adam's apple bobbing, and whispered "I'm sorry" repeatedly.
"It's my fault for dragging you down..."
He choked up halfway through his sentence, as if something was stuck in his throat, and he couldn't utter another complete word.
Mu Yan looked at him, gently shook her head, squeezed his hand back, and wrote in his palm.
"But I didn't blame you. It's the bad guys' fault, not yours."
"...I never intended to put you in danger. I thought that once Lu Chong arranged for you to return to China, you would be safe..."
“I was just unlucky,” Mu Yan wrote in his palm, “I just happened to run into bad weather. There are so many places for planes to make emergency landings, but I landed there and got caught.”
"You're injured too, are they going to cause you trouble as well?"
Mu Yan carefully wrote on his palm. When he finished, he looked up and saw He Fan with red eyes, shaking his head vigorously and muttering that he didn't.
Mu Yan reached out, slightly raised her head to look at him, and used her fingertips to wipe away his tears.
He Fan lowered his head slightly, his gaze meeting Mu Yan's eyes and nose, which were also red from crying.
...Even in his own state, he still thinks of wiping away other people's tears first.
The anesthetic that Hols gave He Fan was military-grade, which could keep him unconscious for a full forty-eight hours.
Just as He Fan was about to inject all the anesthetic, He Fan pushed him away with all his might, pulled out the remaining half of the syringe, and then passed out.
S-class alphas have strong physical abilities, and He Fan has strong willpower. After being unconscious for ten hours, he woke up in his familiar villa room.
The sound of He Qingyun talking to the nanny could be heard downstairs; they seemed to be asking if she should come in and wake her up for dinner.
He Fan gritted his teeth and jumped out of the second-floor window.
His cell phone was confiscated, but he could memorize all his subordinates' contact information.
When he arrived at the coordinates Xie Rong had sent him, all he saw were layers upon layers of waves and the debris of the sunken ship.
Ten hours have passed. If, if Mu Yan is already dead...
His mind was almost blank. He suddenly couldn't remember what Mu Yan looked like. For some reason, all he could think about now was the stray cat that Xie Rong had killed.
The kitten was very thin, but He Fan had already given its fur a bit of shine, and its eyes were beautiful, like deep green gems.
If Mu Yan is already dead...
The patrolling coast guard was thoroughly investigating the bombing. Upon seeing He Fan's ship, they immediately rushed to his speedboat and demanded that he produce the approval document for the sea route.
He Fan looked at them coldly. For a moment, he thought, why not just take these people with him and die together? When Mu Yan died, these people didn't even fulfill their responsibility to save him.
The bodyguard hurriedly found the permit and handed it to them. At that moment, another bodyguard's phone suddenly rang. He walked up to He Fan with some difficulty and asked him to answer the phone.
"Come back," Xie Chen's voice was calm and gentle, unlike his usual angry demeanor after learning that He Fan had deviated from his plans. "I've rescued him. Now I'm sending him back to his country. I won't pursue the matter of you sneaking out."
He Fan remained silent; only his silent yet rapid breathing could be heard on the phone.
Mu Yan is still alive, he said... Mu Yan is still alive.
“I know I was too controlling of you before. You didn’t grow up with Aunt He, and I’ve seen a lot of extreme people. I was always afraid you would go astray, so I never let you kill anyone or hurt any other family members. Maybe… I was wrong.”
“You can deal with Leo and the Dobin family,” Xie Chen conceded to him for the first time in almost his entire life. “I know you have the ability, I won’t stop you, and I won’t let anyone find out about you. I will take care of Xie Chengjun’s side, it will take about a month.”
He Fan was stunned for a moment after hearing this.
Xie Chen told him not to provoke Xie Rong and not to deal with Xie Rong's troubles alone, but He Fan did not follow his advice.
Xie Chen, a man with such a strong desire for control, not only forgave him this time but also made concessions to him.
What is the price?
"I really don't blame you. Don't be sad, okay?" Mu Yan continued writing in his palm, looking up at him as she wrote, her eyes still glistening with tears that she hadn't wiped away, like sparkling gems.
Mu Yan seems to have always been like this. No matter how bad fate is to him, he never complains or blames others. Through his bright eyes, you can see his pure and gentle heart.
True sincerity is like a clear mirror, revealing all dark and gloomy thoughts.
When He Fan was eighteen, he liked him and wanted to have him, and he would do anything for that.
At the age of twenty-two, He Fan still liked him.
“Didn’t you want to be with me?” Mu Yan wrote in his palm, his fingers a little cooler than He Fan’s. He wrote slowly, almost word by word. “After what happened yesterday, I felt that a person’s life is actually quite unpredictable at times. Every day of living should not be wasted, and what you want to say should be said.”
"Xiao Fan, you are a very important person to me. Let's try being together. Even if we don't work out and break up in the future, we can still be friends. I don't want to have any regrets."
[Author's Note]
The previous text has been slightly modified, changing Mu Yan's mother's illness from kidney failure to cirrhosis.
Writing the main story was exhausting. I thought of a sweet side story about a sentry, but I haven't decided on Yan Yan's spirit form yet (actually, I haven't decided on Lu Chong's either; Shang Qiyue should be a snake, and Xie Chen should be a lion or a tiger). I personally like rabbits, but I feel that a lynx or a weasel, which are cute and strong, would be more suitable.
