Chapter 63 Mu Yan likes to be kissed.
"Sister Zhou, will you let me go?" Mu Yan sat opposite Zhou Yiting, too surprised to say anything else.
"Yes, your qualifications and professional skills are very suitable. If you have any difficulties, we can arrange for another colleague to do it; there's no obligation."
Mu Yan's job rarely requires business trips; he's mostly office-based. This industry summit in the capital sounds like a pretty good opportunity. While it might not necessarily help him get a promotion, it's certainly a good sign that he's trusted and valued by his superiors.
Mu Yan wouldn't say he was particularly passionate about his job, but no one would not want a promotion and a raise.
"Or you can think about it some more. I'll give you two days, otherwise I'll have to find another colleague," Zhou Yiting said understandingly, seeing his hesitation. Many people would kill for this opportunity, so it wouldn't be a loss for her if Mu Yan didn't go.
"Thank you, Sister Zhou. One day should be enough. I'll get back to you before I leave work tomorrow."
He wanted to go, but his agreement with Shang Qiyue wasn't finalized yet, and the business trip would last a week, so he needed to ask Shang Qiyue's opinion first.
After what happened that day, Shang Qiyue didn't come to the house for several days. Mu Yan knew he was unhappy and didn't dare to provoke him.
Shang Qiyue had already made concessions far exceeding Mu Yan's expectations, so even if his attitude was cold now, Mu Yan did not feel wronged at all.
He led her to the restroom and opened her chat with Shang Qiyue. Ever since the day they argued, almost every conversation had been initiated by Mu Yan racking her brains.
He asked Shang Qiyue if he wanted to come over, what dishes he wanted to eat, and showed him the egg tarts he had baked for his mother. He asked if he wanted to save some egg yolk and pastry to bake for Shang Qiyue when he came over in the evening.
Mu Yan sent him messages for three days in total, the last time being on the weekend. Shang Qiyue replied each time, but without exception, he did not reject them.
Mu Yan carefully typed each line: "Sir, Sister Zhou said there's an industry summit in the capital next week, and she recommended me to attend. May I go?"
There has been no reply since the message was sent.
Mu Yan held his phone and waited for a while, but there was still no reply. It wouldn't be good to stay in the restroom any longer, so Mu Yan returned to his workstation and waited for Shang Qiyue's message while working.
But I didn't receive a reply until after lunch and then until I got off work.
Mu Yan was getting a little impatient, but she was also worried that something might have happened to Shang Qiyue since he hadn't replied to her messages for so long.
He mentally calculated Shang Qiyue's susceptible period, which shouldn't be so soon, but since Shang Qiyue has been sick, his susceptible period might come earlier.
Mu Yan hesitated for a moment before dialing the number Luo Cheng had left behind.
"Hello Assistant Luo, if it's convenient, I'd like to ask if President Shang is busy right now? I sent him a message asking about something important, but he hasn't replied yet."
“I’m sorry, Mr. Mu, President Shang is not in the company right now,” Luo Cheng said politely. “His private schedule is usually not disclosed to the public, but it’s okay if it’s you. He should be at the research institute for a follow-up appointment. Is there anything I can do for you? I’ll see if I can pass on your message when he comes to work tomorrow morning.”
"My company has arranged for me to attend an industry summit in the capital, which will take about a week. I promised to give my boss an answer tomorrow. I wanted to ask Mr. Shang if I can go."
“Of course,” Luo Cheng smiled after hearing this. “I drafted the contract between you and President Shang. I remember there was a clause that it wouldn’t affect your normal work. Business trips are certainly considered normal work.”
Mu Yan hadn't expected Luo Cheng to agree to the matter so readily. Afraid that Shang Qiyue would be angry later, he nervously asked again, "Are you sure it's okay?"
"It's alright. I've known President Shang for many years, and he's not an unreasonable person."
Mu Yan hung up the phone and breathed a sigh of relief. He slowly came to his senses; Shang Qiyue must have seen the message, didn't want him to go, but didn't want to break the agreement, which was why he had been holding back his anger and not replying.
Mu Yan thought he was a bit childish, like a kid in kindergarten who was accidentally skipped when they were handing out candy, who was clearly furious but kept holding back his anger until someone noticed.
However, since Shang Qiyue did not stop him, he was not too keen to give up this opportunity.
After get off work, he went to a high-end supermarket he wouldn't normally go to and bought fresh live shrimp and beef, took pictures, and sent them to Shang Qiyue.
"The black tiger prawns and beef at the market today are very fresh, so I bought some of each. I plan to boil them and stew them with white radish. Would you like to come, sir?"
Shang Qiyue replied quickly this time: "I'm not coming. I'm still reviewing the case. I'll be going back to Yuejing after the review is finished."
"Go ahead, you're not going to jail, why shouldn't I let you go?" This was his reply to the question Mu Yan had asked him that morning.
Mu Yan could tell that he was still angry with him but didn't want to show it, so he asked him how long the follow-up examination would last and whether he wanted him to cook dinner and bring it over.
"There are a few issues with the indicators today, and it will take about two hours. Okay, you can bring it over. I can only eat boxed lunches with them here."
With permission, Mu Yan prepared the meal at home, packed it into a thermal container, ate it quickly in ten minutes, and then took a taxi to deliver it to Shang Qiyue.
This research institute was invested in by Shang Qiyue. He opened an empty office and sat down to eat. It had been a while since he had eaten Mu Yan's cooking. He didn't know if it was because Mu Yan's cooking skills had improved or it was just his imagination, but it seemed to taste even better than before.
"Is this your first time traveling so far?" He looked up and asked Mu Yan as if it were nothing.
He had investigated Mu Yan, and aside from his gambling father, Mu Yan's background was impeccably clean. At twenty-three, he had never even left City A. Before eighteen, his life revolved around studying; after his mother fell ill, he also had to care for her in the hospital. Immediately after finishing the college entrance exam, he started working, and for the four years of university, he spent almost all his time either in class or working.
"Well," Mu Yan smiled a little embarrassedly, "but it's okay. Some colleagues from the company went with me. I'm an adult, it's no big deal."
As he said this, Shang Qiyue could detect a hint of forced composure in his words.
Mu Yan is mature in some ways, but also inexperienced, as this is his first time traveling so far from home.
I wonder how old I was when I first traveled far from home. It must have been shortly before my sixth birthday. I was not yet six years old. My parents took me to the airport, and the airport staff took care of me all the way until we landed safely in Brussels, where a distant cousin came to pick me up.
What time was the plane?
"It should be Monday morning."
"I'm free that day, so I can take you to the airport before I go to work."
Mu Yan was sitting opposite him peeling shrimp. Hearing this, he looked up in surprise. It was his first time traveling so far, and he was indeed a little nervous. He wondered how Shang Qiyue could tell.
Although he was a little nervous, it wasn't entirely due to his first time flying. Shang Qiyue could see him off at the airport, but he couldn't accompany him to the capital until the business trip ended.
"No need, sir. I'm not that useless. Many people have never been on a plane. If I don't understand something, I'll just ask. I don't think anyone will laugh at me."
Shang Qiyue looked at the pile of shrimp that Mu Yan had peeled for him, which was arranged into a small mound. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the end, he just smiled silently.
"Message me when you land and arrive at the hotel. Remember to let me know you're safe while you're traveling."
Mu Yan nodded seriously: "My brother said the same thing."
Upon hearing this, Shang Qiyue paused slightly, then quickly lowered his head to eat a shrimp that Mu Yan had peeled for him.
There are many ways to interpret this sentence, and Shang Qiyue never made things difficult for himself, so he naturally chose the one he most wanted to hear.
In Mu Yan's heart, he was someone as trustworthy and reliable as his brother, perhaps a little less so, but comparable.
He inappropriately thought of the contract whose termination date had been forced to be brought forward, and felt a little regretful for making concessions for Mu Yan's feelings.
It took a lot of effort for the two of them to get to the point where they could improve their relationship.
But there's no going back on your word in this world. Of course, Shang Qiyue could renege on his promise, since Mu Yan was powerless against him anyway. But he couldn't go back on his word twice in a row; that would be too much of a jerk, and people would think he was some kind of scoundrel.
Shang Qiyue would not do something that would lower his status.
"It's delicious, thank you for your hard work." He stood up reservedly, found some tissues in the office, and handed one to Mu Yan.
"I'm glad you like it." Mu Yan smiled.
After dinner, Shang Qiyue drove Mu Yan back to the house in Rose Garden, and then drove back to the villa in Yuejing.
It's not that he absolutely had to go back to his own place. He told Mu Yan he wanted to go back, and now that he's going back to Mu Yan's place, it would seem like he was deliberately throwing a tantrum and avoiding Mu Yan in the first place.
Arguing with Mu Yan once wouldn't affect his mood, and how long the agreement would last wouldn't matter to him at all. He could go to Mu Yan's place whenever he wanted, and he didn't need a reason if he didn't want to go.
Shang Qiyue got out of the car and escorted Mu Yan to the elevator.
Mu Yan stood at the elevator entrance, but did not immediately press the elevator button.
"It's so late, are you still going back to Yuejing's place?"
"Yes, there's something over there that I need to get. I need it for work tomorrow."
"Can I ask Assistant Luo to get it?"
Mu Yan didn't know what was wrong with him. Perhaps it was because people are always content with their lot, but since the two of them had been living like this for one less day at a time, he actually felt a little reluctant to let go.
Shang Qiyue didn't expect him to ask him to stay. He took out his car keys, locked the car, and took a few steps closer to Mu Yan, smelling the familiar scent of buttered bread on him.
He pressed the elevator button naturally, and then casually took Mu Yan's hand: "You've gotten used to ordering him around too. You used to disapprove of me ordering him around."
It was a tone tinged with a smile. Mu Yan looked up at him, and Shang Qiyue's eyes and brows were also smiling.
Seeing that Shang Qiyue was no longer angry, and remembering that Shang Qiyue had agreed to let him go on the business trip, Mu Yan's mood improved.
He prepared a hot bath for Shang Qiyue, but in the end, he couldn't escape being dragged over to bathe with him.
The bathtub was large, and the two of them didn't feel cramped. Mu Yan was a little reserved in the bathtub, and kept her arms around Shang Qiyue's neck.
As the water cooled down, Shang Qiyue helped him dry off and carried him to bed. Mu Yan was actually a rather traditional person; he was most relaxed in bed.
After working together for so long, Mu Yan seems to have become more relaxed. He no longer holds back everything like he did at the beginning, and he sometimes makes soft whimpering sounds like a kitten.
When he's really exhausted, he'll cry and say, "No more, no more." At that moment, Shang Qiyue will restrain himself, stop, kiss him, and comfort him.
Mu Yan actually really likes being kissed. When he is kissed, he will open his hazy eyes and try his best to see Shang Qiyue's expression. When Shang Qiyue finishes, even though he is out of breath, he will still tilt his head back and lean in as if by inertia.
If things stay still for too long, Mu Yan will start asking Shang Qiyue to move again.
Mu Yan couldn't say anything flirtatious, but she could call Shang Qiyue's name in a seductive, slightly hoarse voice.
Shang Qiyue tried to get him to call her "husband" at first, but Mu Yan was too shy. Even when he did, it sounded like a child imitating lines from a TV drama.
Because they were going to be apart for a week, Shang Qiyue kept him up until the early hours of the morning.
Mu Yan became less obedient and would linger in bed, not wanting to take a shower. Shang Qiyue carried him over, and Mu Yan actually fell asleep in his arms.
