Chapter 44 What's wrong? Don't you want to go?
After returning from the research institute, Shang Qiyue pushed open the door to Mu Yan's house.
Just now at the research institute, he told the doctor about his early onset of the illness. The doctor collected his physical indicators and said that this could very well be a sign that his condition is improving.
After the door opened, familiar pheromones wafted out, but for some reason, the aroma of bread had become much weaker.
Is Mu Yan not here? He frowned. Where did Mu Yan go? Is he still at get off work?
"Sir, you're back?" Mu Yan had just come out of the shower. He didn't have the habit of using a hair drying cap, so his hair was wet and dripping water. "Have you eaten yet?"
Seeing that the person was home, Shang Qiyue finally felt a little relieved.
"I ate something near the research institute."
When Mu Yan heard that he had gone to the research institute, he casually asked what the doctors there had to say.
“It’s fine,” Mu Yan said, his hair still dripping wet, completely unaware of it. He looked at Shang Qiyue with concern. “Why aren’t you using a hair drying cap? Aren’t there hair drying caps here?”
A drop of water landed on Shang Qiyue's hand, and Mu Yan quickly wiped it away with her thumb: "I'm not a girl or an omega... I don't have hair that long, I don't need that."
Shang Qiyue was amused by him again. Mu Yan looked at him blankly, wondering what he had said that made him think strangely.
"Mu Yan, a hair drying cap costs tens of yuan. Before you met me, you must have been making five figures a month. You're not an omega, you're not a girl, so you can't use a twenty-yuan hair drying cap?"
Shang Qiyue found him a new hair drying cap from the closet and dried his hair: "This dries much better, and you can blow-dry it faster. Even if you want to save money, this is the way to do it."
Mu Yan was too embarrassed to say that he used to only blow-dry his hair halfway to save electricity. Shang Qiyue found the hair dryer under the sink, pulled Mu Yan down to sit, and started drying his hair.
Mu Yan was a little unaccustomed to being taken care of like this. He turned his head slightly and said, "Sir, I can do it myself..."
"Sit down." Shang Qiyue pressed his shoulder with his left hand, which wasn't holding the hairdryer.
Mu Yan's hair wasn't long, so it dried quickly. Shang Qiyue's hairdryer, though seemingly not very powerful, dried the hair very fast for some reason. Shang Qiyue looked at his pajamas: "Were you tired from work today? Do you want to rest early?"
Mu Yan tried to decipher Shang Qiyue's unspoken meaning: "Would you like to go out for a stroll, sir?"
"Come out with me in a bit." Shang Qiyue nodded.
Mu Yan didn't ask what they were going to do, but simply replied with a soft "okay".
Shang Qiyue took him to a custom suit shop. The owner was an Italian. Shang Qiyue talked to him in a lot of languages that Mu Yan couldn't understand, and then took Mu Yan's measurements.
Mu Yan stood ramrod straight, his shoulders slightly tense. Shang Qiyue sat on the sofa beside him, slowly flipping through a magazine, but his gaze remained fixed on Mu Yan.
Mu Yan was slender and tall with clean features. Even in his most ordinary dark sweater and work pants, he was still handsome.
However, when he puts on clothes that are more respectable and attractive in a conventional sense, his good looks become even more noticeable.
Mu Yan felt somewhat uneasy and subconsciously turned his gaze to the familiar Shang Qiyue.
Their eyes met in the air, and Mu Yan then realized that although Shang Qiyue had a magazine in front of him, he was still looking at him.
He felt his cheeks getting hot and couldn't help but lower his head.
Mr. Shang observes what he does.
These custom-made clothes must be very expensive.
Mu Yan thought this to himself, but didn't ask. He was gradually beginning to understand that sometimes when Shang Qiyue spent money on him, it wasn't just for his own benefit; sometimes it was also to make Shang Qiyue happy. Dressing himself up nicely would prevent him from losing face when his master took him out.
"Come with me to a friend's engagement party next week."
While talking to the boss, Shang Qiyue suddenly turned around and said something to Mu Yan in Chinese.
Mu Yan was taken aback. Although she had prepared herself for the fact that Shang Qiyue had custom-made clothes for her so that he would take her out, the occasion of her friend's engagement party was far too formal.
According to the customs of Muyan Village, there is no engagement banquet for a couple getting married. They just meet each other's parents, get a marriage certificate, and have a banquet, which is considered a wedding.
Rich people really value money, no wonder many young people in the company are saying things like, "Where does love come from without money?"
"What's wrong? Don't you want to go?"
"No, no," Mu Yan quickly denied. "But Mr. Shang, this is too formal. Would it be inappropriate for me to go...?"
"It's just a meal," Shang Qiyue said casually. "What's inappropriate about it?"
If Shang Qiyue says there's nothing unsuitable, then it must be suitable.
Besides the custom-made formal dress, Shang Qiyue also had Mu Yan try on several regular-sized suits. The saying "clothes make the man" is truly accurate; Mu Yan looked completely different after changing out of the cheap clothes.
Shang Qiyue waved his hand and wrapped up all the clothes.
Shang Qiyue really couldn't do anything about him. This was the first time he had ever seen someone with such low material desires. Every month, 300,000 yuan was deposited into his account, but he wouldn't allow himself to enjoy any of the benefits, not even buying himself a few decent clothes.
Mu Yan thought that after buying the suit, Qi Yue would drive back, but unexpectedly, he drove to a shopping mall in the city center.
The mall lights were soft yet bright. Mu Yan followed behind Shang Qiyue, taking small steps and deliberately avoiding looking at the price tags in the shop windows.
He wasn't sure what Shang Qiyue was going to buy, but he followed Shang Qiyue wherever he went.
Mu Yan was slightly taken aback when Shang Qiyue stopped at a luxury store.
"Mr. Shang," the shop assistant greeted him with a smile, "are you looking for a gift for your girlfriend?"
Mu Yan subconsciously took a step back and lowered his eyes. He remembered that Shang Qiyue had mentioned a friend's engagement party, and he guessed that the engagement party was a gift for that friend's fiancée.
Shang Qiyue didn't answer. He glanced around, then asked the shop assistant to take a burgundy dress from the display shelf. He turned to Mu Yan and asked, "How about this one?"
Mu Yan paused for a moment, then answered seriously, "Sir, you have excellent taste. This dress is very beautiful. That young lady will like it."
"Should we wrap it up, sir?"
Shang Qiyue glanced at the shop assistant: "Please wrap it up. There's also a white strapless dress that I remember wearing at the Miranda show this year. Do you still have it? If not, please deliver it to my house when it arrives."
The shop assistant smiled and said, "You have excellent taste. There's only one size 2 left on that dress. If your partner is an omega, it probably won't fit. I'll send you a size 1 later."
"No need," Shang Qiyue said calmly. "Just size 2, wrap them up together."
Shang Qiyue took the receipt, and Mu Yan stood quietly to the side, naturally reaching out to take the bag.
Shang Qiyue glanced at him, smiled, and said in an ambiguous tone, "So obedient."
The nightlife in City A has only just begun; the malls are brightly lit, their lights reflecting a warm glow on the glass counters.
Shang Qiyue picked up a pair of cufflinks, compared them to Mu Yan's cuffs, and then changed to a pair of jade cufflinks. He frowned slightly, as if weighing which pair was more suitable.
"This is good, try it on." Shang Qiyue handed the cufflinks to Mu Yan.
Mu Yan hesitated for a moment, looking down at the exquisite cufflinks, then at Shang Qiyue's expression.
"What's wrong?"
Something this expensive must be a gift the gentleman is picking out for his friend who is getting engaged.
"It's alright, sir."
"Don't you know how to wear it?"
“These cufflinks are worn with French shirts. Let me put them on this gentleman.” The shop assistant stepped forward, but was forced back by Shang Qiyue’s gaze.
Mu Yan stared blankly as Shang Qiyue unfastened his cufflinks, his slender fingers pinching the small metal piece, then bent down slightly and grasped his wrist.
“Sir…” Mu Yan subconsciously shrank back, his voice soft.
Shang Qiyue didn't let go, but instead lowered his head and gripped his wrist, frowning slightly: "Don't move."
Mu Yan froze, stood obediently, and looked down at the man's fingers as he slowly and methodically unbuttoned his shirt cuffs, threaded the cufflinks through the holes in the cuffs, and then carefully fastened them.
His movements were slow, and his fingertips occasionally brushed against Mu Yan's skin, bringing a special touch that made Mu Yan involuntarily tense his fingers, and his fingertips unconsciously curled up.
Before he could even react, Shang Qiyue had already casually picked up a wristwatch and gestured with his chin at him: "Wear this one too."
Just as Mu Yan was about to reach out and take it, Shang Qiyue lifted his wrist and bent down to personally fasten the watch strap for him.
The cool touch of the metal against his skin, while Shang Qiyue's fingertips were warm. His movements were not gentle, and even carried a hint of irresistibility. Mu Yan could only let him fasten the watch clasp, his throat tightening slightly.
Once the watch was securely on his wrist, Shang Qiyue slowly said, "Alright."
Mu Yan unconsciously clenched his fingers, and just as he was about to say something, Shang Qiyue turned to the shop assistant and said, "That's all, pay up, no need to wrap it up."
Mu Yan stared blankly at his cufflinks and watch: "...No, don't you need to take them off and wrap them up, sir?"
Shang Qiyue looked at him and smiled: "No need, wear it. I picked it out especially for you."
Mu Yan looked down at his cufflinks and watch, which had just felt cold but immediately became scalding hot.
"Mr. Shang, this is too expensive, I can't wear it out..."
Mu Yan felt a little awkward. He didn't want Shang Qiyue to think he was pretentious and aloof, but he also didn't want to accept such a gift.
He always knew his place. Someone like him, even if the real thing were on him, would look like a fake.
He is a stone; he won't turn into gold and jade just because he spends a lot of time with someone like Shang Qiyue.
"Why can't you wear it out? Isn't it fine to wear it now?"
Seeing that he seemed a little displeased, Mu Yan immediately realized what she had just said.
He just... rejected Shang Qiyue.
"Thank you, sir..." Mu Yan began to stammer as he explained his earlier words, "I just feel it's a bit too expensive. This is very beautiful, but it's just too pricey, costing so much..."
When Shang Qiyue saw that he had accepted the tie, his furrowed brows quickly relaxed. He took the tie that the shop assistant had put together and took Mu Yan's hand.
