Chapter 105 You broke up with him
In the cabin of the Gulfstream G650, Mu Yan leaned back in his seat and slept soundly.
In the dim light, his eyelashes cast thin shadows on his face, and his breathing was slow and even.
He must have been really tired. Mu Yan had been both shocked and frightened all day, and he must have been exhausted both physically and mentally.
Before retiring, Xie Chen didn't take many vacations and almost never went on long-distance trips. When he did take vacations, he mostly used helicopters. This Gulfstream had a long range but was bulky and required a runway for takeoff and landing, so he didn't use it much.
He stared at Mu Yan's sleeping face for a while before remembering that the Gulfstream G650 had a separate bedroom with a bed, where Mu Yan could sleep more comfortably.
The journey takes almost ten hours, and most people will inevitably experience back pain after sitting down for such a long time.
He hadn't used the bed in the separate bedroom for a while, and he'd forgotten to put a dust cover on it when he left last time.
He wasn't a particularly obsessive-compulsive person, but after thinking about it, he still took out a new set of unused sheets from the closet and changed them.
Mu Yan was fast asleep and didn't notice when he was picked up. He nestled obediently in his arms, his cheek pressed against his chest, his breathing even and long.
Xie Chen carried him to the bed, and as Xie Chen was about to cover him with a blanket, Mu Yan murmured softly.
"Mother........."
Xie Chen heard his ramblings clearly, paused involuntarily, and then, as if nothing had happened, covered him with the blanket.
You only call for your mom like that when you feel helpless and wronged.
Seeing someone die right in front of you, being kidnapped by someone you had no grudge against and almost dying... Mu Yan must have felt really wronged and scared.
Xie Chen lowered his eyes, still feeling somewhat guilty.
He found Mu Yan too late, and the compensation he could offer him was far too little.
He had already missed out on a poor childhood, and now he had to suffer like this.
Does Mu Yan truly love He Fan? If he genuinely loves He Fan, wouldn't it be too cruel of me to just break them up like this?
Xie Chen closed his eyes, feeling that having such thoughts seemed to be a bit far from the realm of normal people.
The only one to blame is that He Fan has given him and He Qingyun so many shocks over the years that he wasn't as shocked as he thought about He Fan dating his long-lost older brother.
But no matter what, Mu Yan grew up in a normal environment with a normal education. Xie Chen thought about it again and again, but still didn't think that kind of thing was acceptable to him.
Xie Chen closed the bedroom door and returned to the cabin. He called He Qingyun and asked her to pass his phone to He Fan, saying he had something to say to him.
He Qingyun didn't ask any more questions. She simply pushed open the door and went upstairs. When she opened the door, He Fan's bedroom was empty.
She seemed stunned after pushing open the door, remaining silent for a long time. Seeing her silence, Xie Chen quickly guessed that He Fan had probably run away.
He Fan has always been a worry since childhood, and Xie Chen wasn't particularly surprised that it happened again.
He reassured He Qingyun that it was alright, and that he would ask someone to look for it, and that it should be found soon. Then, he rubbed his temples wearily and asked someone to check the contact information of He Fan's trusted bodyguards.
He Fan had anticipated this move; the bodyguards' information pages were completely blank, as if they were invisible people who didn't exist in human society. Xie Chen was a bit overwhelmed. Fortunately, at this moment, a coast guard officer he knew who was on patrol called him, saying that he had seen his brother at the scene of the incident.
Xie Chen asked them to let He Fan answer the phone. The sound on the other end was very noisy and chaotic, with many people talking, mixed with the sound of waves and sea breeze.
After a while, He Fan's voice finally came through the coast guard's cell phone.
“I’ve rescued him, and now I’m sending him back to his country,” Xie Chen said carefully. “I won’t pursue the matter of you sneaking out.”
After learning that Mu Yan was safe and sound, He Fan's rapid breathing became noticeably more normal. Xie Chen was worried that he might do something outrageous, so he didn't dare to directly force him to break up with Mu Yan.
“I know I was too controlling of you before,” Xie Chen said slowly. “You didn’t grow up with Aunt He, and I’ve seen a lot of extreme people. I was always afraid you would go astray, so I never let you kill anyone or hurt any other family members. Maybe… I was wrong.”
"You can take care of Leo and the Dobin family. I know you have the ability. I won't stop you, and I won't let anyone find out about you. As for Xie Chengjun, I'll handle it properly. It will take about a month."
"After saying so much, it's rare for you to be so accommodating to me, Big Brother," He Fan said calmly, without any particular reaction. But before he always went crazy, his tone was always calm. "Are you trying to give me a sweet treat before slapping me in the face?"
Xie Chen did intend to appease him first, but he did not expect He Fan to be so direct, and he was speechless for a moment.
"Mu Yan is Aunt He's son, didn't you... already know that?"
“Yes.” He Fan readily admitted, “I also made the He family move out. When you went to City A to investigate him last time, you didn’t find out that his stepmother and biological father were from a blended family. That was because I tampered with things. I didn’t want you to find him, and I didn’t want him to leave me because he knew he was He Qingyun’s son.”
"You..." Xie Chen was stunned. Although he was prepared, he still felt a mix of emotions when he actually found out.
When he saw the silk scarf that didn't belong to him at He Fan's house, he was originally... very happy for He Fan.
He has someone he likes, and he will share things with that person that he doesn't want to tell himself and He Qingyun. He will gradually become more cheerful and normal for them.
This was something he and He Qingyun hadn't been able to do for many years, and Xie Chen was genuinely happy.
But there are eight billion people in the world, so why is it Mu Yan in particular?
Xie Chen originally had other questions he wanted to ask him, but now that things had come to this, it was no longer of much significance to delve into whether He Fan knew that Mu Yan was his half-brother when he fell in love with him.
He Fan now knows, but has no intention of leaving Mu Yan because of this.
Xie Chen gently pressed his temples again, feeling as if all the messy things in the world had happened to his family at once.
"Break up with him," Xie Chen said succinctly at the end.
“Whether you agree to me today or not, I will go to him and tell him the truth. Aunt He has been looking for him for many years, and he has the right to know.”
There was no sound from He Fan's side for a long time. After a long while, he finally spoke again.
"It was He Qingyun who abandoned him. All these years, Mu Yan has never thought of going back to her... He has his own family now. Do you think He Qingyun is a very good mother?"
"He Fan!" Xie Chen finally got angry. He sternly reprimanded He Fan, but couldn't find any words to refute him.
No matter what, it is an indisputable fact that He Fan was forced to leave He Qingyun's side when he was twelve years old and grew up alone.
He Qingyun rarely mentioned her life before coming to Country A to Xie Chen. When Xie Chen asked her about it, she only said that she had married an irresponsible gambler, and that she had stormed out after an argument.
She said she was young then, not even twenty years old, and she hated her gambling ex-husband so much that she also loathed the child who shared half his blood. When she left, she only thought about getting as far away from the father and son as possible.
Later, when we were separated by ocean, I realized that the child was innocent and regretted letting him grow up alone with such a bad person.
She had a choice, but the child didn't. If she had been more sensible back then, she would have wanted to take that child with her even if it meant begging for food.
He Qingyun felt guilty, but Xie Chen didn't think she was wrong at all. If the identity of a mother and the instinct to pursue happiness conflicted, choosing to take the child with her was certainly a noble decision, but choosing freedom and happiness should absolutely not be condemned.
But Mu Yan.........
Xie Chen rubbed his aching temples and finally realized that he had been led astray by He Fan's thinking.
He Qingyun has never denied her regret and self-blame for leaving Mu Yan, and besides, it is meaningless to dwell on the past and whose fault it was.
Regardless of whether He Qingyun was at fault or not, Mu Yan's unhappiness was mainly due to He Qingyun's gambling ex-husband.
"Or do you think you're some great older brother?" Seeing that Xie Chen couldn't find a rebuttal, He Fan continued, his tone somewhat sarcastic, "Do you think he really needs you and He Qingyun?"
Compared to He Fan's previous sentence, this sentence had a negligible effect on Xie Chen's anger.
He glanced calmly toward the bedroom; the cabin was well soundproofed, so Mu Yan could hardly hear anything.
"Whether he needs it or not is his business, and he can choose not to acknowledge Aunt He, but he has the right to know the truth."
"Whether you agree to break up with Mu Yan now or not, I will tell him in a while that if you don't want to, then let him choose for himself."
He Fan remained silent on the other end of the phone, neither agreeing nor saying anything in rebuttal.
No matter how righteous He Fan was in front of him, Mu Yan was, after all, an ordinary person with normal values, and he could never accept such a thing.
Xie Chen knew that he had probably achieved his goal.
“…If there’s nothing else,” he waited for about two minutes, and He Fan still hadn’t said anything, “I’ll go ahead…”
"Is he... really alright now?" He Fan suddenly asked.
Xie Chen was taken aback, wondering why He Fan would ask him a question that he had already given him the answer to from the beginning.
"...It's not entirely alright," Xie Chen answered truthfully. "Xie Rong's men were quite ruthless. He has quite a few injuries. I took him to the hospital for a check-up, and now I'm sending him back to China."
Xie Chen wouldn't lie, nor would he need to. Composing a lie would be superfluous for him, let alone the details of fabricating one.
From childhood to adulthood, Xie Chen felt that he had never lied to He Fan or made any promises to him that he later failed to keep, and He Fan should also know this.
"Hors said you got hurt when you fought with him," Xie Chen said, softening his tone. "You should also get some rest."
After a long while, a very soft "hmm" came from the other end of the phone.
It was so light that Xie Chen even doubted whether it was his imagination.
"Thank you... Big Brother."
