Chapter 20 The real show is just beginning.
Although Riemann's injuries looked horrific, they did not meet the criteria for minor injury, and therefore Huang Dehan could not be prosecuted.
At most, he can only be ordered to pay compensation and be detained for fifteen days.
“If you don’t plan to divorce him, then sign the papers and take him back. We’ve already talked to him last night.”
"But if you are determined to divorce him, we will cooperate with you and provide you with evidence of domestic violence by your husband, so that you can apply to the court for damages."
The police officer looked at Li Man and said, "Think it over carefully."
"No need to think about it. I'll go sign the papers and take him back right away. I'm so sorry for the trouble I've caused you," Riemann said apologetically.
The police officers were surprised that Li Man changed her mind so quickly, especially since she had been excitedly shouting that she wanted a divorce just last night.
However, the police officer didn't react much. He had handled many domestic violence cases, and the vast majority of women who were victims of domestic violence did not choose to divorce. Those who did choose to divorce were those who had been beaten so many times that they had become terrified and finally woken up.
Seeing Li Man's bruised and swollen face, the police officer couldn't help but remind her, "Next time he tries to hit you, just run away. Never confront him head-on. How can a woman like you beat a man? In the end, you'll only be the one who suffers."
After a pause, the police officer, still concerned, added, "Why don't you write down my phone number? If he hits you again, just call me and I'll come to rescue you as soon as possible."
The police officer gave Li Man his phone number because he knew that domestic violence is either zero times or many times; there is no last time.
Most women only give up completely and divorce their husbands after being subjected to domestic violence multiple times.
Therefore, the police were worried that Li Man would be beaten by her husband again next time.
"Thank you!" Riemann said gratefully, and wrote down the police officer's phone number.
Riemann signed the papers and bailed Huang Dehan out.
Huang Dehan could hardly believe that the woman who had been clamoring for a divorce and wanted him to go to jail last night would bail him out.
Seeing Huang Dehan's puzzled look, Li Man forced a smile and said softly, "I thought about it all night last night. I still can't let go of you, and I can't let go of our daughter. Husband, I can forgive you for cheating, but you have to promise me that you will break off your relationship with the other woman."
Li Man knew that Huang Dehan would never give up on San'er, and the reason she said that was simply to avoid arousing Huang Dehan's suspicion. After all, if you forgive someone without asking for anything in return, the other person will suspect that you have other motives and become wary of you.
Huang Dehan's disdainful gaze fell on Li Man's bruised face. He knew that this woman couldn't live without him. She had severed ties with her family and would have nowhere to go without him.
Thinking of this, Huang Dehan looked down on Riemann even more, his gaze towards her filled with disdain and contempt.
However, Huang Dehan did not want to divorce Li Man now. He did not say anything and walked straight out of the police station.
Li Man followed Huang Dehan out of the police station.
Back home, Huang Dehan took a hot shower, changed into clean clothes, and then went out.
Riemann didn't press him about where he was going, but simply asked with concern, "Are you coming back for dinner tonight?"
Huang Dehan said impatiently, "I'm not going back!" Then he warned, "You'd better mind your own business. If you want to stay in this family, you'd better behave and take good care of our daughter."
After saying that, Huang Dehan put on his shoes and left.
Watching Huang Dehan's departing figure, Li Man's lips curled into a bloodthirsty smile. The real show is just beginning!
