Chapter 287 The Dowry Prepared Long Ago
Huo Jiansheng helped call a hearse to transport Li Liangsheng's body to the funeral home.
Li Man left the two children at home to keep Zhang Yan company, while she went to the funeral home with Huo Jiansheng.
After the formalities were completed, a farewell ceremony was scheduled for three days later.
When Li Man returned home, Zhang Yan had already woken up. She was lying in bed, tears streaming down her face.
"Mom!" Li Man walked to the bedside and called out softly.
"Has your father's matter been settled?" Zhang Yan asked in a hoarse voice.
“It’s all arranged. The farewell ceremony will be held in three days,” Riemann said, her voice choked with emotion.
Zhang Yan nodded and stopped talking. Her eyes were vacant as she stared at the ceiling, her face full of loneliness and sadness, and tears occasionally slid down her cheeks.
It was as if all her energy and spirit had been drained away, and she seemed to have aged ten years in an instant.
Seeing her mother like this, Li Man felt heartbroken and cried, "Mom, Dad is gone, but you still have me!"
Zhang Yan's lips moved, and she let out a weak sound: "Your father is gone, and now I'm all alone..."
“No, Mom, you still have me. I will transfer Duoduo back to school here, and I will stay home with you from now on,” Li Man said quickly.
Upon hearing this, Zhang Yan's dull eyes instantly lit up as she looked at Li Man, "Really?"
Li Man nodded repeatedly, "It's true, Mom, I will come to visit you from now on."
"Okay, okay!" Zhang Yan said happily, tears welling up in her eyes again.
"Mom, get up and eat something. You haven't eaten all day," Li Man said softly.
Zhang Yan shook her head. "You guys eat, I really can't eat anymore."
“How can you not eat? What will I do if you collapse again?” Riemann cried.
Zhang Yan couldn't stop crying, but she still obediently got up.
Li Man helped Zhang Yan out.
"Grandma," Xinyu called out sweetly when she saw Zhang Yan.
"Grandma," Huang Duoduo called out as well, not to be outdone.
Zhang Yan forced a smile and replied, "Okay, good girl."
"Auntie, come and eat quickly," Huo Jiansheng called out.
"Yes!" Zhang Yan responded, and said gratefully, "Mr. Huo, thank you so much."
“Auntie, Li Man and I are friends, you don’t need to be so polite with me,” Huo Jiansheng said.
Zhang Yan nodded gratefully and sat down at the dining table.
Looking at the food in front of her, she had no appetite at all.
She hurriedly ate a few mouthfuls of rice, but couldn't finish.
Riemann served Zhang Yan another bowl of soup.
After dinner, Zhang Yan called Li Man to the room, took out two property deeds from the safe, and handed them to her, saying, "This is the dowry your father and I prepared for you a long time ago: a house and a shop."
As he spoke, he took out a savings book and said, "There's a million in here, take it."
“I don’t want them.” Li Man pushed the things back. “Mom, these things are for you to take care of in your old age.”
"Silly child," Zhang Yan said with a smile, "Mom has money for retirement, so don't worry about Mom. This dowry should have been given to you a long time ago, but you never apologized to us, so it was left until now. Now Mom will give it all to you. Mom knows you haven't had an easy time out there either."
“Mom!” Li Man cried out emotionally, tears streaming down her face.
They deeply regret what they did in the past.
"Alright, stop crying." Zhang Yan gently wiped away her tears and said, "By the way, what's going on between you and that Mr. Huo? Does he... like you?"
"No!" Li Man quickly denied, "We're just friends, Mom, don't talk nonsense."
