Chapter 5 Mother-in-law is gone

Chapter 5 Mother-in-law is gone

Huang Dehan's phone rang for a while before being answered. The moment the call connected, Li Man seemed to hear a woman's complaint: "...So annoying."

The voice was very low and could not be heard unless you listened carefully, but after Riemann learned of Huang Dehan's infidelity, she became very sensitive and still managed to catch this subtle sound.

In the past, she definitely wouldn't have noticed.

"Wife, how is Mom?" Huang Dehan's voice came from the other end of the phone, but Li Man didn't detect anything unusual.

"Mom might not make it, please come back quickly," Li Man said in a calm voice.

"Is it that serious?"

"Yes, it's already quite remarkable that Mom's body has been able to hold on until now."

Yes, without her meticulous care, my mother-in-law wouldn't have lived so long.

She never expected that her mother-in-law would pass away so soon after she discovered Huang Dehan's infidelity.

Huang Dehan was silent for a moment before saying, "I understand. I will get back as soon as possible."

Huang Dehan didn't return until noon the next day.

When he arrived at the hospital, the old lady was already unconscious.

The old lady's high fever persisted, and the hospital issued a critical condition notice.

"Think about whether you want to try to resuscitate her," the doctor said. "However, I don't think it would be very effective. Please consider it."

Riemann looked at Huang Dehan, waiting for him to make a decision.

Looking at his mother, who was so thin and frail on the hospital bed, Huang Dehan sighed and said, "Forget it, let's not bother her anymore."

"Then I'll process your discharge papers," the doctor said and left.

Everyone knows the meaning behind that statement.

After completing the discharge procedures, Huang Dehan took his mother home.

Back home, the old lady woke up, seemingly experiencing a final burst of energy before death. She was in good spirits and looked at Huang Dehan, saying, "Dehan, Mom is dying. Mom is going to find your father... You must be good to Manman..."

The old lady rambled on and on, her words incoherent, then she took Li Man's hand and said, "Manman, Mom is so sorry..."

Tears streamed down Riemann's face. She wasn't crying because she was saddened by her mother-in-law's departure, but because she felt that all her efforts over the years had been in vain.

Over the years, she has always treated her mother-in-law like her own mother. Perhaps out of guilt towards her parents, she has given all the love she had for her parents to her mother-in-law, taking meticulous care of her.

The old lady passed away peacefully, with a faint smile on her lips.

After the old lady's funeral, Huang Dehan dismissed the live-in housekeeper, because his mother-in-law had passed away and there was no need to hire a housekeeper anymore.

Their daughter, Huang Duoduo, lives at school and only comes home once a week. It's just the two of them at home, so there's really no need to hire a nanny.

Riemann didn't say anything, but felt very disheartened.

Although there are only two people in the family, someone still needs to keep the house clean.

...

That evening, Huang Dehan had just finished dinner when his phone suddenly rang.

Upon seeing the caller ID, Huang Dehan quickly grabbed his phone, ran into the bathroom, and locked the door.

Riemann stood by the door, listening to the sounds coming from the bathroom.

"Baby, I miss you too."

"Let's wait a bit longer. My mom just left, so I can't tell her yet..."

"Don't worry... sweetie, I'll come find you tomorrow night..."

"Mom, what are you doing?"

Riemann was listening intently when her daughter's sudden voice startled her. She stammered, "Ah... I, I need to go to the toilet!"

"Splash!"

The sound of a toilet flushing came from the bathroom. Then the door opened, and Huang Dehan came out. "Go on, I'm done."

Riemann had no choice but to walk into the bathroom, feeling dejected.

She didn't want to go to the toilet, but since she was already inside, she had no choice but to take a shower.

After taking a shower, Li Man returned to her room and saw Huang Dehan lying on the bed playing on his phone.

Riemann sat down at the dressing table, poured out the skincare products one by one, and applied them to her face.

Looking at her no-longer-young face and sallow skin in the mirror, Riemann fell into deep self-doubt: Was it because she was no longer beautiful that her husband was having an affair?

But in a split second, she overturned this idea, because the main reason why men cheat is not because their wives are not good or beautiful enough, but because they are inherently promiscuous!
