Chapter 9 Let's eat first.
After sending her daughter back to school, Li Man took out her phone and called Chen Xiaohui.
Li Man has three close friends: Gu Ya, Tan Xiyuan, and Chen Xiaohui. Gu Ya and Tan Xiyuan were Li Man's classmates and roommates in college, and after graduation, they stayed in Shenzhen to work together.
Chen Xiaohui was Li Man's former colleague. She was two years older than Li Man, and the two got along very well and kept in touch.
Chen Xiaohui is 39 years old. A year after her divorce, she married a lawyer and has a 14-year-old daughter who is very beautiful and lives with her.
Gu Ya and Li Man are the same age, both 37. Gu Ya was determined to marry into a wealthy family, so she didn't find her true love until she was 32. Her husband is 25 years older than her. They have been married for four years and have had three children, but all three are daughters. She wants to have a fourth child and vows to keep having a son because her husband's family is really rich and needs to inherit.
Tan Xiyuan is the youngest, 36 years old, and has been married for ten years but has been unable to conceive.
"Why are you calling me so early in the morning? What's up?" Chen Xiaohui's cheerful voice came from the other end of the phone.
"Have you had breakfast? Come out, my treat," Riemann said.
“Unsolicited kindness is always suspicious. Tell me, what do you need my help with?” Chen Xiaohui saw through her words.
Riemann touched her nose and said helplessly, "You really can't hide anything from me. I'll tell you when we get out."
"Sure, where should we eat?"
"Memorize it!"
"Okay, see you in a bit."
After hanging up the phone, Riemann drove to Qiangji.
She found a seat by the window, ordered a milk tea, a rice noodle roll, and a char siu.
Not long after I sat down, Chen Xiaohui arrived.
Because Riemann was sitting by the window, she was very easy to find, so Chen Xiaohui saw her as soon as she came in.
"What is it? I can't tell you over the phone, but you insist on treating me to breakfast."
Chen Xiaohui sat down opposite Li Man and asked impatiently.
Riemann pushed the menu in front of Chen Xiaohui, "Order whatever you want, let's eat first and then talk about it."
Chen Xiaohui picked up the menu and muttered, "Being so mysterious, it just makes people curious."
Riemann smiled and said, "I'm afraid if I tell you, I won't be able to eat breakfast."
"Why?" Chen Xiaohui's eyes gleamed with gossip.
"Because I'm full of air."
Chen Xiaohui became even more curious and urged, "Tell me quickly, it doesn't matter whether I eat it or not, I'm on a diet."
Riemann rolled her eyes. "Let me eat and drink my fill first. How can I have the energy to talk if I'm not full?"
Chen Xiaohui scoffed, picked up the menu, and ordered a bowl of wonton noodles and a cup of lemon honey grapefruit tea.
After eating and drinking her fill, Li Man took a tissue, wiped her mouth, and slowly said, "My husband cheated on me!"
"Pfft..." Chen Xiaohui spat out the tea she had just drunk, then coughed violently, "Cough cough... What did you just say?"
Luckily, Riemann dodged quickly, otherwise she would have been sprayed. Riemann pulled out a tissue and handed it to her, saying with disgust, "It's disgusting, it's sprayed everywhere, wipe it off quickly."
Chen Xiaohui took the tissue, wiped her mouth, and asked cautiously, "Did your husband really cheat on you?"
Li Man took out her phone and played the recording from the dashcam for Chen Xiaohui.
Upon hearing this, Chen Xiaohui was furious and angrily cursed, "He's worse than a pig or a dog! All these years, you've served his mother with all your heart, while he's been out having a good time. If he's so promiscuous, he might as well have died of syphilis. A man like that is better off dead than alive!"
Riemann felt a lump in her throat, and all the grievances in her heart welled up with tears at that moment.
Chen Xiaohui quickly grabbed a piece of paper and handed it to her, saying, "Cry, you'll feel better after you cry."
Riemann took the tissue, and a suppressed sob escaped from her throat.
