Chapter 12 One Life, One Love
Ye Wanning picked up the item, looked at it for a while, and then smiled, "It's the handkerchief my sister just gave me."
Su Yikun was taken aback, then remembered that Ye Wanqing was her older sister, and smiled and said, "You two sisters really have a good relationship."
“Yes, my sister treats me very well.” Ye Wanning pursed her lips. “I refused to take this handkerchief before, but my sister insisted on giving it to me, saying that it was rare for me to visit her, so I should keep it as a souvenir.”
Su Wenlan stared at the handkerchief, paused, and felt it looked familiar. After hearing Ye Wanning's words, he remembered where he had seen this handkerchief before. This was the very thing that had harmed Ye Wanning back then. Su Wenlan frowned. Ye Wanqing was becoming increasingly careless, actually doing something like this. Was she trying to give Ye Wanning a hard time?
Ye Wanning noticed Su Wenlan's unpleasant expression and smiled slyly. Since her eldest sister had given her this item as a show of force, she was definitely going to make good use of it. The Ye family were under the Crown Prince's command; even an idiot could see what they were up to by marrying her off to the Prince of Jin's mansion. She was still useful to them, so why not take advantage of this opportunity to let them fight like dogs?
Soon, Su Wenxuan regained her composure and said calmly, "I was just afraid that my younger sister would be dissatisfied. As the older sister, I only gave her a handkerchief. I was afraid that my sister-in-law would complain that the Crown Princess is stingy. I will have to have a good talk with her when we get back."
Ye Wanning covered her mouth and smiled, "Your Highness is too kind. The sentiment is enough; there's no need to make a fuss about it."
Su Yikun looked at Ye Wanning with kind eyes. Although he could tell from their conversation that the handkerchief must have some purpose, he was too lazy to care and didn't want to care. Besides, Ye Wanning was a sensible person, and he liked her very much. Wen Zhen was a kind and good boy, and he just hoped that she would treat him well.
"Where is Wenzhen?" Ye Wanning exchanged a few polite words before feeling a bit tired. She thought it best to return to the manor as soon as possible, lest something unexpected happen if she was too late.
“Wenzhen is in the pavilion.” Su Yikun smiled as he looked at Ye Wanning. “Wanning, Wenzhen is quite attached to you. I’ve been here for as long as I’ve heard him calling your name.”
Upon hearing this, Ye Wanning was taken aback and looked at the pavilion not far away. Su Wenzhen was lying on the table, muttering something to himself. From his expression, it was clear that he was very unhappy.
Su Yikun turned his head and looked at the pavilion. "He waited for you for a long time, so he sat there and wouldn't leave. I said I would take him to find you, but he refused to go. Wenzhen is just like a child."
Ye Wanning smiled and said, "Wenzhen is just a child."
Hearing this, Su Yikun was stunned for a moment. What a good girl! She didn't seem annoyed at all. He stared at Ye Wanning and said, "I'm sorry to have troubled you."
Ye Wanning looked at Su Yikun with some surprise, "Your Majesty's words are... too much. Wenzhen and I are husband and wife, there's no trouble involved."
Su Yikun nodded. He looked at the sky and said, "It's getting late. You should take Wenzhen and leave the palace early. Go back to your residence and get some rest. You must be tired today."
"Yes." Ye Wanning bowed, and Su Yikun left. Ye Wanning stared blankly at Su Yikun's departing figure. This Emperor, after all, was a kind father. Turning her head, she looked at Su Wenzhen. Wenzhen was indeed fortunate to have a good father, but even this father probably couldn't protect him completely, otherwise he wouldn't have sent him out of the palace. But being outside the palace was still better, after all, it was far away from those struggles. Ye Wanning's eyes softened even more, and she slowly walked towards the pavilion, "Wenzhen!"
Upon hearing Ye Wanning's voice, Su Wenzhen excitedly jumped up from his chair, "Wife!"
"Have you been waiting long?" Ye Wan smiled gently at him.
“Yes.” Su Wenzhen pouted. “I’m hungry, but Father won’t give me anything to eat.”
"Idiot!" Ye Wanning laughed and flicked Su Wenzhen's forehead. "That's your own father. Why don't you ask him for help?"
“But…” Su Wenzhen lowered his head, “But I want to eat what my wife makes…”
"Okay!" Ye Wanning agreed with a smile. "What would you like to eat? I'll make it for you!"
"Really!" Su Wenzhen blinked, her eyes filled with longing.
"Of course!" Ye Wanning shook her head proudly. "Your wife can do everything..."
"Yay!" Su Wenzhen excitedly picked up Ye Wanning. "Then I want to eat lots of delicious food. My wife, please make all the dishes you know how to make for me, okay..."
Ye Wanning felt embarrassed. "I'm your wife, not a superheroine!" she thought, her face falling as she pulled Su Wenzhen towards the palace gates. "Let's go back to the manor..."
“But…” Su Wenzhen struggled, “My wife hasn’t agreed to my request yet.” He then threw a tantrum and forcefully broke free from Ye Wanning’s hand. “If my wife doesn’t agree to my request, then I won’t leave and I won’t go back to the manor.”
With her hands empty, Ye Wanning paused, turned to look at Su Wenzhen sitting on the ground, and was about to agree when she suddenly remembered something. She smiled slyly and squinted at Su Wenzhen, "You really aren't going back?"
Su Wenzhen pouted, "I won't go back! I won't go back unless my wife agrees!"
"That's perfect." Ye Wanning clapped her hands, turned around and continued walking out of the palace. "Then I'll go back to the manor alone. I'll cook something delicious and eat it all with Cui'er and the others. I won't leave you any. You can just stay here and starve."
Hearing Ye Wanning say this, Su Wenzhen became anxious. He immediately got up from the ground, ran over, and hugged Ye Wanning's hand, pleading, "Wife, wife, please don't do this..."
"What did I do wrong?" Ye Wanning sniffed. "It was your own choice not to go back to the manor. I didn't force you."
"Then...I..." Su Wenzhen sighed, this woman is really clever. "Alright, my wife, I was wrong." Su Wenzhen stared at Ye Wanning with teary eyes. "I'll go back to the manor with my wife..."
"Hmm..." Ye Wanning nodded, then said with difficulty, "But I can't cook so much food for you. Why don't you ask one of your other wives to cook for you?"
"What!" Su Wenzhen glared angrily at Ye Wanning. "I only have you as my wife! I don't want any other wives!"
"But you're going to exhaust me! You don't care about me at all. I don't want to be your wife," Ye Wanning said, her eyes full of resentment.
After thinking for a while, Su Wenzhen sighed, looking unhappy. "Alright, then... then... then my wife, you can just do half of it..."
"Hmm?" Ye Wanning squinted at him.
Su Wenzhen's face fell, and he said dejectedly, "Alright... I'll eat whatever my wife makes..."
"Clever!" Ye Wanning smiled with satisfaction, happily patted Su Wenzhen's head, and took his hand. "Come on, your wife will take you back to the manor!"
Su Wenzhen nodded, then seemed to remember something and asked expectantly, "I just said that I only have one wife, does that mean my wife only has one husband?"
Upon hearing this, Ye Wanning suddenly slipped. She turned her head and looked at Su Wenzhen with some suspicion. Was this really something a fool would say?
Su Wenzhen was taken aback. What had he just said? Seeing Ye Wanning's suspicious expression, he paused, then feigned a pitiful look, "If my wife has many husbands, then no one will play with me..."
"So that's how it is," Ye Wanning pursed her lips. It seemed she had been worrying too much lately. She gave Su Wenzhen an ambiguous smile. "That depends on your performance." Then she raised an eyebrow. "Let's go back to the manor."
"Alright..." Su Wenzhen shouted happily, "I will be a good husband... so that my wife will only have me as her husband..."
"Not bad," Ye Wanning covered her mouth and chuckled. "This idiot!"
