Chapter 56 Ambush

Chapter 56 Ambush

The next morning, Ye Wanning stood in front of the door, looking helplessly at Cui'er who was still holding onto the package. She rolled her eyes and said, "Cui'er, give me the package."

"No!" Cui'er shook her head. "Sister, if you don't take me with you, I absolutely will not give you the package!"

Ye Wanning's lips twitched. Ever since the incident at the palace, this girl had refused to let her go alone, saying she was afraid something else might happen. Ye Wanning knew that the girl was doing it for her own good, but if she and Wenzhen went there, they would inevitably be in grave danger. How could she bear to drag Cui'er into it? Qiu Shan was already enough; if Cui'er were added to the mix, how could her conscience allow it?

Thinking about it, Ye Wanning sighed helplessly, "Cui'er, listen to me..."

“I won’t listen! I won’t listen!” Cui’er frowned, her expression full of determination. “My sister treats me like family, but I can’t do anything for her, not even share her suffering.”

As she spoke, Cui'er's eyes gradually welled up with tears, "What right do I have to deserve my sister's title of 'younger sister'..."

Hearing Cui'er's words, Ye Wanning felt uneasy. She looked at Cui'er with some difficulty; no matter what, she couldn't take Cui'er on this dangerous journey! Thinking this, she suddenly noticed Steward Li not far away and an idea struck her. She looked at Cui'er, her eyes serious, "Cui'er, if you really want to come with me, it's not impossible..."

Hearing Ye Wanning agree, Cui'er was overjoyed. Before she could finish speaking, she exclaimed happily, "Really?! Then I'll go pack my bags right away!"

"Wait a minute!" Ye Wanning sighed helplessly, rubbing her forehead. This girl really was...

"Huh?" Cui'er was taken aback, looking at Ye Wanning with some confusion. "Sister, what's wrong?"

Ye Wanning stroked her chin, her expression somewhat troubled. "But have you ever thought about who will manage this vast palace after you leave?"

"Huh?" Cui'er looked a little dazed, and after a long while, she finally spoke, "I..."

"When I returned from the palace last time, it was Steward Li who told me about it!" Ye Wanning smiled and said meaningfully, "He also said that he was very grateful to you because he was able to manage the affairs of the Prince's Mansion well. If it weren't for you, the Prince's Mansion would probably be in chaos long ago!"

“Then I…” Cui’er choked, somewhat at a loss for words, “Then what does Sister mean…”

"If you insist on coming with me, that's fine too," Ye Wanning frowned. "However, by the time we return, the entire palace might be deserted. If you don't mind, then come with us!"

"I..." Cui'er hesitated for a long time before finally giving in. She sighed somewhat resentfully, "Fine, sister just doesn't want me to go, so I won't go..."

"Hey." Ye Wanning smiled smugly, "You chose this yourself, don't blame me."

As she spoke, she noticed that Cui'er's expression was not good, and knew that she must be bothered by it. Ye Wanning smiled and said, "Alright, I have something I need you to do for me."

As she spoke, Ye Wanning leaned close to Cui'er, and the two whispered something to each other. Just as they finished speaking, a group of guards walked over from not far away.

"Greetings, Prince Jin and Princess Jin."

Ye Wanning glanced at the team leader and frowned. "Who are you?"

The leader was a burly man. He looked up and glanced at Ye Wanning expressionlessly. "I am a subordinate sent by the Crown Prince to escort the Prince and Princess to Mount Putuo."

Ye Wanning frowned slightly. Guards? Su Wenyan clearly said yesterday that he would personally lead a team to escort her back to the manor. Where is he now? Could it be...? As if she had thought of something bad, Ye Wanning's expression changed. "Where is the Fourth Prince?"

"The Crown Prince said that since the Fourth Prince rarely returns to the capital, and the Emperor is seriously ill, it is best to stay in the palace to protect the Emperor and not go out unnecessarily."

Hearing this, Ye Wanning's heart skipped a beat. Oh no, there might be danger today! She turned her head and looked at Su Wenzhen, who was standing quietly to the side without saying a word. Wenzhen, I'm afraid we can't escape today!

Thinking it over, Ye Wanning sighed helplessly. After a long while, she turned around and said to the guards behind her, "Let's go!"

The group set off for Mount Putuo in a grand procession. After traveling for several hours, they did not encounter any trouble. Ye Wanning sat in the carriage and lifted the curtain with some doubt. It was getting dark, but nothing had happened. She frowned in confusion, wondering if she was overthinking things.

Seeing Ye Wanning suddenly appear, the leader was naturally puzzled. "What's wrong, Princess? Were you uncomfortable in the carriage? Did you walk too fast?"

Ye Wanning was taken aback. Why was this leader suddenly concerned about her? Was he not one of the Crown Prince's men? "It's nothing. I just wanted to ask how long it will take to get to Mount Putuo?"

"We've only gone halfway." The man smiled, revealing a set of white teeth.

Perhaps because of his appearance, Ye Wanning shifted uncomfortably, feeling a sense of unease about the man. She pursed her lips, "How much longer?"

"We'll leave this forest soon and reach a nearby village where we can rest for the night and set off tomorrow morning. We should arrive around the afternoon."

"I see." Ye Wanning nodded. Although she could feel the man's good intentions, she felt that something was not right. She thanked him and then shrank back.

Inside the car, Ye Wan Ning stared intently at the rising incense smoke. It was the Crown Prince and his group who suggested going to Mount Putuo. Anyone with common sense could see that there was something wrong with it, but now... it was as if nothing had happened. Ye Wan Ning frowned. What exactly was wrong?

"My wife, what are you thinking about?"

Su Wenzhen's words interrupted Ye Wanning's thoughts. She looked up and saw Su Wenzhen looking at her with a puzzled expression. Ye Wanning smiled and said, "It's nothing."

As she spoke, she stood up and sat down next to Su Wenzhen, smiling sweetly, "Wenzhen, what's the thing you most want to do after you go back this time?"

"Huh?" Su Wenzhen looked at Ye Wanning, somewhat bewildered.

Seeing Su Wenzhen's blank expression, Ye Wanning tried hard not to laugh out loud. After a long pause, she said, "You can do whatever you want, and when we get back, your wife will accompany you in doing all of it, okay?"

"Really!" Upon hearing Ye Wanning's words, Su Wenzhen immediately became interested, his eyes shining. "My wife, you can't lie to me!"

"Of course." Ye Wanning chuckled, and was about to say something when the carriage suddenly stopped. She lost her balance and fell straight onto Su Wenzhen.

A shout came from outside the carriage: "It's terrible! Bandits! Protect the Prince and Princess!"

Upon hearing this, Ye Wanning's face paled. So it's finally happening!
