Chapter 66 The Mysterious Guard
Su Wenzhen reached out and held Ye Wanning's hand tightly. "Don't be afraid," he whispered.
After speaking, Su Wenzhen stood up and looked around warily. The bandit leader's words were like a bomb, which exploded in the crowd. Everyone screamed and stood up. Some people tried to rush out, but were killed with a single blow.
Ye Wanning prided herself on being quite brave, but even she felt uneasy at the sight. She had never seen anything like it before; aside from Qiu Shan, she had never witnessed anyone die in front of her, let alone so many people. Ye Wanning felt a surge of nausea and was about to say something when her eyelids were suddenly covered. Startled, she exclaimed, "Who?"
"Don't be afraid, close your eyes and you won't feel uncomfortable," Su Wenzhen whispered in her ear.
Ye Wanning was taken aback, then nodded gently.
After gently holding Ye Wanning in his arms, Su Wenzhen looked at the bandits around him, a bloodthirsty glint in his eyes. They really had the audacity to do this!
"Protect her!" Su Wenzhen pushed Ye Wanning into Xu Da's arms and shouted. After saying that, he kicked the nearest bandit away.
Xu Da was startled and quickly took Ye Wanning from him. "Your Highness, I apologize." After saying that, he took out a strip of cloth and blindfolded Ye Wanning.
Xu Da's actions left Ye Wanning somewhat bewildered. Just as she was about to break free, she suddenly realized something. Ye Wanning froze. Wenzhen, he was going to… Ye Wanning felt a tremor in her heart. She wasn't some saint. These bandits wanted their lives. Xu Da was doing this so she wouldn't see Su Wenzhen killing people! Thinking of this, Ye Wanning nodded, "I understand."
Su Wenzhen picked up the longsword left behind by a bandit, turned around and stabbed at another bandit. The bandit leader, standing to the side, watched the battle and was delighted. This guy is quite talented; he's quick, ruthless, and accurate!
Thinking about it, the bandit leader smiled cruelly. How long had it been since he'd encountered an opponent like this?
Su Wenzhen received the bandit leader's provocative gaze, turned around, his breath quickened, and he thrust directly at the bandit leader.
"Clang!" A sound rang out as the bandit leader drew his broadsword to parry Su Wenzhen's attack. "Good lad! You've got some skills!" The bandit leader chuckled, noticing Su Wenzhen's coarse linen clothes, and said, "How about joining me?"
Su Wenzhen didn't speak. His expression hardened, and with a flick of his wrist, he thrust at him again.
Seeing that Su Wenzhen remained unmoved, the bandit leader flew into a rage, "You shameless bastard! Do you really think I'm afraid of you?!"
As he spoke, the bandit raised his hand to block Su Wenzhen's attack. Seeing that their master was in trouble, the bandits' henchmen rushed over to help. Su Wenzhen gritted his teeth and had no choice but to retreat.
The bandit leader chuckled as he looked at Su Wenzhen's disheveled appearance. "I outnumber you, so what good is your fighting ability?" He then looked Su Wenzhen up and down, his voice unusually lewd. "Judging from your appearance, you seem to have excellent potential. If you come under my wing, I will definitely treat you well!"
“Yeah! Just follow our boss!” A bandit standing to the side chimed in, “You’re exactly our boss’s type. He’ll treat you well!” A chorus of lewd laughter erupted around them.
Upon hearing this, Su Wenzhen stiffened, his eyes darkened, and he picked up the chopsticks on the table and shot them at the bandit who had just spoken.
With a muffled thud, the bandit fell to the ground, his enormous eyes wide open. Seeing that Su Wenzhen still dared to kill in front of him after all that, the bandit leader roared at the surrounding men, "Men! Kill him!"
Ye Wanning was blindfolded and naturally couldn't see what was happening around her, but she could hear! As soon as the bandit leader finished speaking, her heart tightened, fearing that something might have happened to Su Wenzhen. She hurriedly reached out her hand, just as she was about to remove the blindfold from her eyes, when Xu Da suddenly pressed her hand down tightly.
Ye Wanning was extremely anxious, and Xu Da wouldn't let go of her, so she couldn't help but feel angry and shouted, "Xu Da! How dare you! Let go of me right now!"
Upon hearing this, Xu Da not only didn't let go, but increased the force of his grip even more. He glanced at the person who had suddenly appeared beside him, and couldn't help but feel a little afraid. He said softly, "Your Highness, please forgive me! But we really can't let go now! His Highness is alright!"
How could nothing be wrong! Ye Wanning bit her lip, but suddenly realized there was no sound around her. What was going on? Ye Wanning's mind was in a mess. The bandit leader's words kept echoing in her mind: Kill him! Kill him! Kill him!
Just then, footsteps approached, and the blindfold over Ye Wanning's eyes was removed. A bright light shone in, so bright that Ye Wanning couldn't open her eyes. After a while, she squinted at Su Wenzhen, who had suddenly appeared in front of her, and her nose suddenly stung with tears. "Wenzhen..."
Su Wenzhen gently picked up Ye Wanning and said with a smile, "It's alright, someone's here to pick us up."
Ye Wanning turned her head and found that all the bandits who had been shouting so fiercely were now lying down. A man in blue was standing nearby, his eyes terrifying. Ye Wanning's breath caught in her throat, and she quickly looked away from him.
Inside the carriage, Ye Wan huddled in Su Wenzhen's arms, clearly still reeling from the shock. She bit her lip, paused, and then asked impatiently, "Wenzhen, who was that person just now?"
"Hmm?" Su Wenzhen's eyes were half-closed, and he seemed a little absent-minded, as if the fight just now had exhausted all his strength.
"It's that guy in the blue robe, the one driving the carriage right now!" Ye Wanning looked at Su Wenzhen nervously, only to find that he seemed to have fallen asleep.
"Your Highness, please let the Prince rest well." Xu Da glanced at Su Wenzhen and said softly, "The Prince is probably exhausted."
Ye Wanning glanced at Su Wenzhen and obediently shut her mouth. She frowned; she had never seen the man in blue before, but judging from his demeanor just now, he was someone from Su Wenzhen's entourage. But...
Ye Wanning frowned. Su Wenzhen was just a fool back then! How could he have such a capable guard by his side? Could it be...? Ye Wanning bit her lip. How many things was he hiding from her?
Perhaps because of the person in blue, they encountered no further problems along the way, and the three of them arrived at the Prince's Mansion safely.
Cui'er stood at the door, her eyes red and swollen. She looked at Ye Wanning, on the verge of tears, "Sister..."

Seeing that Ye Wanning had finally relented, Cui'er was overjoyed and quickly directed the servants inside to take Su Wenzhen away. Cui'er walked to the carriage and saw the man in blue, and suddenly paused for a moment before returning to normal. She walked towards Ye Wanning and said, "Sister, you must be tired from being outside these past few days. I've already prepared a hot bath for you. Come in and take a shower!"
Ye Wanning glanced at Cui'er, then at the man in blue who was tidying up the carriage. Suddenly, something occurred to her. She raised an eyebrow. It seemed there were many things she didn't know about this mansion! Ye Wanning pursed her lips. It was time to sort out the truth of the matter!
Thinking about it, Ye Wanning smiled and said, "Okay, let's go!"
