Chapter 79 Scapegoat
Since the day I had a fight with Su Wenzhen, I haven't seen him again, but I haven't missed my daily supplements.
“Sister…” Cui’er sighed, put the bird’s nest that the maid had just handed her on the table, and went over to shake Ye Wanning, who was resting on the table, “Are you really not going to go see the Prince?”
Ye Wanning looked up, yawned, and lazily replied, "What do you want with him?"
“This…” Cui’er frowned. “After all, you two are husband and wife. How can you really ignore each other?”
Ye Wanning's eyes were half-closed, and she looked a little sleepy. "It's just ignoring them, what's the big deal?"
Cui'er looked at Ye Wanning with some helplessness, "Sister, this is really not good..."
“Yes, you’re right.” Ye Wanning nodded and stretched. “This really isn’t good.” As she spoke, she got up and looked outside. “Cui’er, where’s my recliner?”
Cui'er was taken aback and didn't react for a moment, then replied, "It's in the storage room next door."
“Okay.” Ye Wanning nodded, glancing at Cui’er. “Go and ask someone to bring that recliner to the yard. It’s uncomfortable to lie on the table. I want to sunbathe.”
Cui'er was taken aback, looking at Ye Wanning with some difficulty, "Sister, what about what I just told you..."
"Why are you so long-winded?" Ye Wanning frowned, her tone sharp. "Do you think I can't get you to do things now?"
Cui'er sighed softly, knowing that if she continued, her young mistress would really get angry. She nodded, "Yes, I'll go right away."
After the deck chair was moved to the yard, Ye Wanning asked Cui'er to prepare some snacks. She lay on the deck chair, lazily basking in the sun, feeling quite content.
"Sister." Cui'er gently fanned herself with a fan.
"What's wrong?" Ye Wanning picked up a piece of osmanthus cake and stuffed it into her mouth, her voice becoming somewhat muffled. "Tell me."
“It’s just…” Cui’er swallowed hard, but then she saw that Ye Wanning’s gaze was a little scary. Cui’er choked and was about to persuade Ye Wanning again, but she was so frightened that she changed her mind. She pointed to the sky and smiled a little foolishly, “The weather is really nice today.”
"Hmm..." Ye Wanning hummed softly. She knew what Cui'er wanted to say to her, but... Ye Wanning narrowed her eyes. Although she was at fault that day, the root cause was Su Wenzhen's stubbornness! Besides, Su Wenzhen didn't give her any way out at all! Thinking about it, Ye Wanning felt choked with anger, a surge of heat rose to her throat, and she couldn't help but cough.
"Sister..." Seeing Ye Wanning cough again, Cui'er was so frightened that she almost dropped her fan. She quickly stepped forward and patted Ye Wanning's back: "Sister, are you alright? You're not fully recovered yet. Why don't we go back to our room and rest?"
"No, thank you." Ye Wanning waved her hand, feeling inexplicably irritated. She glanced at Cui'er, about to say something, when she saw Steward Li rushing in from outside in a panic.
"Your Highness, Your Highness! Something terrible has happened!"
Ye Wanning was taken aback. She turned her head and noticed that Butler Li's face looked unusually pale. Thinking that something had happened to Su Wenzhen, she quickly asked, "What's wrong?"
The steward, Li, took a couple of breaths, paused for a moment, and said with a helpless expression, "A few days ago, the Prince gave the order that the Princess Consort was unwell and would not receive any guests. Today, this second Miss Ye came, and we tried to explain to her, but she wouldn't listen and insisted on entering the manor. However..." As he spoke, the steward sighed, "It just so happens that the Prince is not at the manor these past two days. This old servant... really doesn't know what to do. The gate of the manor is in complete chaos!"
Hearing this, Ye Wanning frowned and looked at Butler Li with some doubt, "Did the second young lady of the Ye family say what she came here for?"
"This..." Butler Li thought for a moment, glanced at Ye Wanning, and said softly, "She said... she came to express her gratitude..."
"Thank you?" Ye Wanning was taken aback, looking at Butler Li with some confusion. "Thank you for what?"
Butler Li blinked, looking completely bewildered. "I don't know either!"
Ye Wanning was completely confused. She didn't remember helping Ye Wanyi in any way. What did it mean that she was suddenly thanking her? Ye Wanning paused for a moment before thinking of going to ask what was going on, when she saw Cui'er suddenly grab her.
Ye Wanning was taken aback, looking at Cui'er with some confusion, "What's wrong?"
Cui'er winked at Ye Wanning, then turned to Steward Li and said, "Go down, the Princess will handle this matter later."
“But…” Butler Li scratched his head in a bit of a predicament. He looked at Ye Wanning, and seeing that Ye Wanning nodded, he reluctantly retreated.
Seeing that Butler Li had left, Ye Wanning breathed a sigh of relief, picked up another piece of pastry and stuffed it into her mouth, "So, what's wrong?"
"Sister, have you forgotten?" Cui'er sighed, looking at Ye Wanning with a helpless expression. "You knew about Ye Wanyi putting drugs in the wine that day, but you didn't say anything. Doesn't that mean you tacitly agreed? If it weren't for that wine, she probably wouldn't have been able to become related to the Crown Prince through marriage!"
"Pfft!" Ye Wanning was so startled by Cui'er's words that she spat out everything in her mouth. She stared at Cui'er with wide eyes, "What do you mean?"
"This second young lady seems to want to drag us into this matter," Cui'er said with a frown, somewhat uneasy.
Are they afraid the Ye family won't be able to withstand the Crown Prince's wrath after he finds out the truth, so they're looking for a scapegoat? Ye Wanning sneered. This Ye Wanyi is smart for once. She paused, looked at Cui'er, and a cunning glint flashed in her eyes. "Cui'er, let's go. I want to see if she can cause any trouble!"
Outside the Prince of Jin's residence, Ye Wanyi stood at the gate, furious. Her maid, supporting her, looked at the guards at the gate and shouted anxiously, "What are you doing! Why are you blocking our way!"
"His Highness has ordered that the Princess Consort is unwell recently, and the manor will not receive any outsiders. Everything will be discussed after His Highness returns to the manor."
"Insolence!" Upon hearing this, the maidservant flew into a rage and shouted, "Do you know who you are?! She is the elder sister of your princess! And a concubine of the crown prince! Is she an outsider?!"
"Oh dear!" The maid's words had barely faded when a soft laugh suddenly came from inside the mansion. Ye Wanning walked out slowly with small steps. "Second Sister, what brings you here today?"
Seeing Ye Wanning finally emerge, Ye Wanyi breathed a sigh of relief and said with a smile, "I'm so glad to finally see my sister." As she spoke, Ye Wanyi walked forward, saying as she went, "I wanted to see my sister today, but the servants in your household are so disobedient, and..."
Ye Wanyi had just reached the door when she was stopped by the guard. She was taken aback and looked at Ye Wanning with some confusion, "Sister, what are you doing? Why aren't you calling them..."
"Why would I call them?" Ye Wanning interrupted her, lazily playing with her nails. "I didn't say I was going to let you in."
Upon hearing this, Ye Wanyi was so angry that she choked, her face turning ashen. She widened her eyes, pointed at Ye Wanning, and asked, "You...you...what do you mean?"
"Don't you understand what I mean?" Ye Wanning smacked her lips impatiently. "I heard that you came to apologize to me today, but..." Ye Wanning frowned, looking at Ye Wanyi with some confusion, and spread her hands. "I don't know what I did to help you. Why don't you tell me right here today?"
Ye Wanyi blushed, unsure what to say. Her maid, however, couldn't contain herself any longer, hands on her hips, pointing at Ye Wanning and angrily shouting, "So what if she's a princess? What is she anyway! Our young lady will be the Crown Prince's consort in a few days, and you'll have to kneel before her! You're treating her like this now; aren't you afraid she'll..."
"Slap!" A loud slap rang out. The maid covered her face, staring blankly at the person standing in front of her. "You...you..."
"What do you mean, 'you'!" Cui'er glared at the maid, her eyes wide with anger. "Didn't your mistress teach you how to speak?"
"Cui'er! Come back quickly!" Ye Wanning stood behind the guard and shouted loudly. This girl really didn't know what was going on. She just ran out like that. What if Ye Wanyi found a chance to catch her and beat her up?
"Yes." Cui'er nodded and immediately walked to Ye Wanning's side.
By the time Ye Wanyi came to her senses, the perpetrator had already fled. She stood outside the door, gritting her teeth as she looked at Ye Wanning, "Sister, what do you mean by this?"
"It's nothing." Ye Wanning raised an eyebrow and said indifferently, "I'm not fully recovered yet, so I can't stand the wind." As she spoke, Ye Wanning even coughed a few times in a mock manner. "I won't see you off, sister. Take care, sister." After saying that, she took Cui'er and walked into the house without looking back.
Ye Wanyi was so angry that she twisted her handkerchief. The sound of sobbing came from beside her. Feeling annoyed, Ye Wanyi turned and glared fiercely at the maid. "What are you crying for, you brainless idiot! All you do is cry! If you cry again, I'll chop you up and feed you to the dogs!"
The maid was terrified by Ye Wanyi's words and immediately stopped crying. She didn't even dare to wipe away her tears and just stood obediently beside her.
Ye Wanyi glared fiercely at the Prince's mansion. "Ye Wanning, we'll see!" she thought. "Back to the mansion!"
