Chapter 6 Four-Leaf Clover: You are one in ten thousand lucky people
Once Takanashi Chinatsu makes a decision, it's very difficult to change it. Although Touya was worried, he still told her the address of the shrine.
The shrine is a family heirloom, named Higurashi Shrine, and the priest's family took the name of the shrine as their surname.
The connection with the ghost was a mistake from the start. She didn't care back then because the other party promised not to affect her. Now that the promise has been broken, it's time to end the relationship.
Takanashi Chinatsu skipped her afternoon classes and went to find Higurashi Shrine by herself.
Higurashi Shrine is located in a remote area, overgrown with thorns and weeds, and is inaccessible by car. She picked up a stick and parted the weeds, but the stray blades of grass still cut her delicate calves. There was no bleeding, but it stung painfully.
Touya can see ghosts.
Although both of them tried to hide their emotions when they saw Nadeshiko, they couldn't help but reveal something was off. They just didn't say anything.
It was after that day that Touya gave her that bracelet.
The bracelet's beads are made of ceramic and engraved with runes. When she wears the bracelet and occasionally encounters ghosts, the ghosts are always trembling with fear.
Later, Takanashi Chika discovered that the ghost could neither touch her nor had any bad intentions. Most importantly, the ghost often went to the Kinomoto house to play, and she was worried that it might hurt Nadeshiko, so she put it away and stopped wearing it.
Looking back now, there are so many shrines in Japan, but only a few are truly effective. Touya must have searched for a long time back then.
"That idiot."
Takanashi Chika's chest swelled. How stupid of her! She was only 12 years old, yet she ran off to such a remote place all by herself. What if she got kidnapped by bad guys?
Chika Takanashi muttered to herself, then suddenly tripped and let out a soft cry.
Soft and slippery.
Hiss—
Startled by being stepped on, the tiger keelback suddenly lunged at Chizuru Kotori and kissed her.
"Ah!" Takanashi Chinatsu really screamed this time. It was a snake! It was a snake! She was terrified of snakes!
"Watch out!" A large hand grabbed the snake's shoulder and pulled it backward. A black leather shoe kicked the snake's head with precision, sending it flying.
The grass-green snake with black stripes writhed violently on the ground in pain, then turned and slithered away.
Chizuru Takanashi was still not recovered. Her heart was pounding, her breathing was rapid, and her fingers seemed to be frozen, clutching her clothes and unable to move. Only her two eyes were trembling with fear.
"Are you alright, Miss?" The person who kicked away the snake walked up to Takanashi Chinatsu and quickly checked her for any wounds. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that she hadn't been bitten.
He chuckled, patted Takanashi Chika on the shoulder, and seeing that she was still frightened, slapped his forehead and took off his sunglasses.
"Don't be afraid, I'm not a bad person, I'm a policeman." The man in the black suit spoke softly, his dark blue eyes softening as he handed over his business card.
Explosives/Bombs/Disposal Team - Matsuda Jinpei.
Matsuda... Jinping.
Chinatsuka Takanashi blinked, staring blankly at the name on the famous film. The chill in her body was replaced by a warm current, and her hands and feet regained their flexibility.
"Hello, Officer Matsuda." Takanashi Chinatsu took a step back and subconsciously touched the heart-shaped pendant around her neck. It was made of epoxy resin and wasn't particularly expensive; it seemed to be just to preserve the still-green four-leaf clover inside the pendant.
"Why did you come to such a remote place all by yourself?" Matsuda Jinpei asked, glancing around as his brows furrowed deeper. "Even if there are no bad people, aren't you afraid of snakes, insects, and rodents, you're a girl all alone?"
Chizuru Takanashi froze, terrified.
Matsuda Jinpei clearly realized this as well, and gently patted Takanashi Chinatsu's arm, his voice even softer: "Go back quickly, don't come here to play."
Takanashi Chika shook her head nervously and said in a low voice, "I...I want to go to the Higurashi Shrine over there to pay my respects."
"Is there a shrine here?" Matsuda Jinpei asked, his eyes filled with surprise. He put his sunglasses back on and said, "Then I'll take you there."
“Okay.” Takanashi Chinatsu didn’t refuse. She clutched the business card tightly in her hand and couldn’t help but steal glances at Matsuda Jinpei from the corner of her eye.
It was him.
Although his dark blue eyes were hidden behind sunglasses, his curly hair was exactly the same as when he was a child. Especially since he had just taken off his sunglasses, his face was the same as she remembered, appearing before her again after 6 years.
—It was so abrupt, yet it made her feel incredibly lucky.
"Hey, why are you crying?"
This was the first thing Matsuda Jinpei said to her six years ago.
That's incredibly impolite and reckless.
"Want some candy?"
This is the second sentence: Takanashi Chinatsu didn't take his candy, but Matsuda Jinpei forcefully stuffed the candy into her hand.
"If only Hagi were here, damn it, how am I going to coax her!"
He scratched his frizzy curly hair, looking just like a grumpy gorilla.
However, despite his irritability, Matsuda is not aggressive and is actually quite gentle.
"I am Matsuda Jinpei. Where are your parents? You're not allowed to cry anymore!"
Takanashi Chinatsu thought to herself, "What a strange person, ordering me around like that."
That was the day after Takanashi Chinatsu's adoptive father died, and it was also the first time she had escaped from the organization.
Her adoptive father was actually unreliable; he was always away on business trips. She spent less time living with him than with her uncle, Kinomoto, who took care of her. Whenever he went away, he would leave her with the Kinomoto family.
But her adoptive father loved her very much.
He brought back a crow for her, would carry her on his shoulders and let her ride on his horse, and would take her to get revenge after the boy behind her pulled her hair, giving the little rascal a big shaved head.
She thought she would live with her unreliable adoptive father forever, and they even made a promise to each other to try their luck at the lottery. They planned to go to the Louvre Museum in France together after winning the prize, but everything was shattered by Gin.
In front of her, Gin fired the bullet that had taken her adoptive father's life.
Chinatsu's only revenge was to escape right under Gin's nose, allowing him to be severely punished by the organization.
But she knew she would definitely be taken back by the organization. She just wanted to visit her adoptive father's grave before she was taken back. She walked along the road crying, and even went to the cemetery to look at the names on the tombstones one by one.
She couldn't find it; she couldn't find it at all.
At the time, Chinatsu Takanashi did not know that those killed by the organization would not have tombstones and would never be buried.
When you die, you're dead. You're clean and nothing is left behind.
It was around that time that Matsuda Jinpei appeared before her.
"Why are you still crying..." Matsuda Jinpei drawled, as if he had encountered a huge problem, then carefully held out a four-leaf clover to her with both hands: "I'm giving this to you, please don't cry anymore, okay? Do you know what a four-leaf clover is? The meaning of a four-leaf clover is that you are one in ten thousand lucky people!"
Perhaps a four-leaf clover really does represent good luck.
"Did you find the four-leaf clover? China, you really are a lucky child."
It was fortunate that Karasuma Renya saved her life.
