Chapter 157 Don't Marry Him, He's a Monster
On the way back, Qiao'er patted Zhao Mingzhu's hand:
"Miss, do you see Mr. Bai and Miss An in front of you?"
An Yun is getting married tomorrow, so she went home early to prepare for the wedding.
Zhao Mingzhu followed Qiao'er's lead and looked over: "An Yun? She doesn't look like her."
The woman opposite Bai Lan was wearing peach pink. She reached out and pulled Bai Lan's arm. Zhao Mingzhu's face turned cold.
It was a strange face, definitely not An Yun.
But she did not go over immediately. Instead, she watched from a distance, then asked Qiao'er and the others to go back, and she followed with Yinzhu.
Zhao Mingzhu thought, Bai Lan shouldn't come up with anything melodramatic.
Bai Lan left quickly, leaving the woman standing there looking at his back.
After Bai Lan left, Zhao Mingzhu walked up to the woman and looked at her. She had almond eyes and rosy cheeks, and a look of panic still remained on her face.
"Girl, wipe the sweat from your forehead."
Zhao Mingzhu swore that she had never been so gentle in her life.
"Thank you."
The woman touched her forehead and shook her head, saying, "I dare not defile the young lady's handkerchief. I will just use mine."
The woman looks like a lady from a wealthy family from her clothes, so the handkerchief must be valuable.
Zhao Mingzhu put it away and said with a smile, "Was that the young lady's husband who just left?"
The woman shook her head after hearing this. Zhao Mingzhu was just about to breathe a sigh of relief when she heard what the other party said.
"Not my husband. He and I are not married yet."
Zhao Mingzhu almost couldn't hold back her smile, but she forced a laugh and continued, "The girl and him are a perfect match, they are talented and beautiful, and it's obvious at first glance."
"When are you planning to get married?"
Zhao Mingzhu looked at the other woman, and the woman fell silent: "He won't marry me. He will marry someone else soon."
"What?!" Zhao Mingzhu was furious and grabbed her hand:
"You also have a fiancé who's fallen in love with someone else? I have a good friend who once faced such a heartless man."
She led the person into the restaurant and then into a quiet room, and the woman finally came to her senses in a daze.
"This girl, you are..."
Zhao Mingzhu poured her a cup of tea and said, "Don't worry, I have no bad intentions. I just feel like I'm standing up for us women! These men are absolutely despicable! Are you here to try to rob me of my bride?"
Just as Zhao Mingzhu was about to continue asking questions, the woman suddenly shook her head: "No, no."
She seemed to recall something horrible: "I'm not here to steal the bride, I'm here to persuade that lady not to marry him, he's a monster!"
But unexpectedly, she was discovered by Bai Lan, who warned her that he would kill her if she showed up again.
These words were completely beyond Zhao Mingzhu's expectations. After the woman said this, she stopped talking and ran away with her head down.
"Silver beads!"
Yinzhu appeared and closed the door before the woman ran out.
"What...what do you want to do?"
She leaned against the door, feeling a little scared, and regretted that she should not have come to the capital.
Zhao Mingzhu stopped pretending and said bluntly, "I'm An Yun's good friend. An Yun is the bride who will soon marry Bai Lan."
She stepped closer and asked, "Can you tell us in detail why Bai Lan can't get married?"
"Are you...are you telling the truth?"
Zhao Mingzhu nodded: "I can see that you are also a kind girl. Since Bai Lan has problems, you won't have the heart to watch my good friend fall into the tiger's mouth, right?"
Zhao Mingzhu squatted in front of her: "Don't worry, I will keep my mouth shut and send someone to escort you out of the capital safely."
"Really?"
The woman looked at her cautiously, stood up, and said, "What if you lied to me?"
She looked at Zhao Mingzhu nervously and asked vigilantly.
"If I lie to you, I will be struck by lightning, die a miserable death, and be reborn as an animal for eternity."
Such an oath was so serious that the woman signaled her to stop.
"...I believe you. If you are really a bad person, it will be my life."
Zhao Mingzhu motioned for her to sit down: "Don't worry, young lady. What's your name?"
"Fang Niang, Miss, just call me Fang Niang." Fang Niang took small sips of tea.
Zhao Mingzhu nodded: "My name is Zhao Mingzhu. Fangniang, can you tell me everything you know about Bai Lan?"
Fang Niang held the teacup and said slowly, "My father found him while hunting. He was covered in wounds, so he left him at our house. When he woke up later, we found out that all the injuries were from being beaten by the previous family."
At this point, Fang Niang still showed a look of pity: "Miss, you don't know, there was not a single piece of healthy flesh on his body at that time, and there were even marks of iron branding. The healthy flesh where the whipping was the deepest was already deformed."
"We live in Luoshui City, and our previous family lives five mountains away. But when Bai Lan mentions them, he doesn't seem to harbor any resentment towards them; he just laughs it off. The longer we get to know each other, the more I like him. My father also likes him, so he wanted him to be my husband. But Bai Lan refused. My father, for the sake of face, said he would never let him go unless he found the sea pearl to repay my family for saving his life."
When they got here, Fang Niang's hands began to tremble: "Bai Lan agreed and went out to sea alone, but there was a sudden storm that day. I watched the boat capsize, but he returned safely three days later."
Fang Niang's hands were shaking. She noticed it and quickly drank a sip of tea. After controlling herself, she continued:
"He also fished out a sea pearl, which was worth a fortune, and gave it to my father. Seeing his resolute attitude, my father confiscated it and told him to leave quickly and not delay me."
Fang Niang's hands began to tremble again, and even her body was shaking slightly. Zhao Mingzhu saw this and held her hand:
"Then what?"
"But that night, I saw him eating a live fish!"
Fang Niang grabbed her hand and said excitedly, "It's a live fish, with scales and blood all over the ground. He's gnawing at it like a wild beast, and he has no feet!"
At this point, Zhao Mingzhu was already a little bit unbelievable. Why was this direction so mysterious?
Zhao Mingzhu was sure that Bai Lan must have feet now.
"And what happened next?"
Fang Niang shuddered, "I was so scared I didn't dare to make a sound and kept hiding. I didn't dare to go out."
Zhao Mingzhu consoled him, "Fang Niang, maybe you were frightened by him eating live fish, so you mistakenly thought he had no feet?"
"Impossible! I really saw it! Believe me!"
Fang Niang reiterated excitedly, as if she had returned to that time.
"Oh, and this, too. I found it in his room."
"What?"
Zhao Mingzhu looked over, but the door was suddenly pushed open. Bai Lan was standing at the door with an expressionless face, but the corners of his mouth were twisted into a strange smile.
"Princess, why are you here?"
Yinzhu stood in front of Zhao Mingzhu and shouted, "Stop!"
"Ah!" Fang Niang screamed in fright and fainted.
The thing in her hand was thrown on the ground, shining with colorful luster.
Zhao Mingzhu widened her eyes. She had seen this thing before. She turned around and stared at Bai Lan in shock.
"Bai Lan...you?!"
