Chapter 148: Escape
"How strange, is someone sending a message by carrier pigeon?"
Oz thought as he opened the window.
He took the letter off the little white pigeon's legs, and kindly took out some bread crumbs to feed the pigeon. He watched the cute little pigeon cooing and flying away.
"Who could have sent me a letter? And in such a magical way?"
Oz curiously opened the envelope and read the letter.
As he read, Oz's eyelids twitched suddenly.
Then he jumped up.
"Oh my god, oh my god!"
"Rhine, the sage and magician of the Kingdom of Rose, has come to Oz!"
He felt like he was dreaming.
Many years ago, when he first came to this green land, he felt that he might never leave. He was completely cut off from his past life and past world.
No one will ever know that the great wizard of Oz was just a magician and balloon pilot in a certain national circus, using fancy performances to please the audience on stage.
The kingdoms on that continent, the things beyond the green fields, the joys and sorrows of the past were buried forever, existing only in his memory and his dreams every night.
However, not long ago, the outsider named Magredo broke Oz's fantasy. And today, Rhine's arrival made Oz wake up completely.
"Oz is also connected to the world."
These words flashed through Oz's mind, reminding him that the outside world would find him one day.
Before he finished reading the letter, he started to panic:
"This is bad. Lord Rhine is here."
"He is a real, powerful magician!"
"I boasted before that I was his disciple! I was just making it up to fool the people here."
"What should I do now? If Lord Rhine knew that I was pretending to be his disciple, he would be furious!"
Oz was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan. He paced back and forth in the room, from the door to the corner, and then from the corner back to the door.
Oz picked up the unfinished letter again and continued reading it with gritted teeth.
He looked at the neat and elegant handwriting. The more he read, the gloomier his expression became, and he began to tremble all over.
"No way? My guards caught him."
"Oh my God? Those idiots did this to Lord Rhine?"
…
Rhine stayed in the cold and damp little house, squatting in the corner, quietly waiting for good news.
After a while, the door opened.
"Violator, these are your glasses. Remember not to take them off when you walk around the Emerald City." The soldier officer walked in and handed the glasses with emerald green lenses to Rhine.
Rhine put on his glasses obediently.
"Of course, you can't go out now. We said before that wizards are not allowed to stay in the Emerald City unless they have permission from Oz," the officer continued.
"So, you still have to ask the great Oz for advice, right?" Rhine asked.
"Of course, you can tell us why you want to visit Oz," the officer said. "We will send someone to ask the Great Oz. If the reason is right, the Great Oz will allow you to visit his beautiful city."
Rhine was about to say something when the officer reminded him:
“But don’t expect anything from it.
“The Great Oz is a good man, a just King and a great wizard, but he also hates boring people.
"If the reason for your visit is boring, he might suddenly get angry and kill you!"
When mentioning Oz's terrible power, the officer's expression was obviously distorted and his voice was much lowered.
Obviously, while he was in awe of Oz, he was also afraid of the power of this great wizard.
Rhine nodded and said solemnly:
"A very dangerous Wicked Witch - more powerful and wicked than either the Witch of the East or the Witch of the West - is now in Oz.
The latest novel is published first on Liu9shuba!
“People call her Maleficent, the Black Witch. She belongs to the same coven as the Witch of the East.
"I need to visit the great Oz himself and ask for his help in finding Maleficent!"
The sergeant nodded.
When Rhine said that there was a witch who was more powerful and evil than the witches of the East and the West, he showed an expression of disbelief, but still wrote down what Rhine said.
"If it's true, there will be another evil witch in Oz, which is a really bad thing. But anyway, with the great Oz here, no matter how powerful the evil witch is, she won't dare to do anything to the Emerald City."
Thinking of this, the officer asked with obvious disbelief:
"Can you guarantee that what you say is true?"
"Of course, that's absolutely true, sir," Rhine said.
"I will report what you said to the Great Oz. But I have to remind you that there is nothing more stupid in the world than lying to the Great Oz. The Great Oz can tell any lies, no one can lie in front of him, and he hates dishonest people the most. Once you tell him a lie, he will be furious and kill you in an instant!" The officer reminded repeatedly.
It seemed that he was really worried that Rhine was talking nonsense and was concerned about his safety.
"I understand." Rhine said.
The commander sighed:
"Okay, tell me your name and background. Since we are going to report your words to the Great Oz, this information is necessary. We can't just say that an 'Unknown' came to visit for an important matter."
"I said, I am Rhine, the magician of the Kingdom of Rose." Rhine said.
"Ah?" The officer's face suddenly turned green, like an unripe apple.
At this moment, Rhine's eyes lit up.
He saw, behind the open door, another group of soldiers running towards him from a distance.
"Sir Rhine, the great Oz invites you to his palace!"
