Final Remarks (IV)
I used to envy those authors who could write novels and draw long comics.
I envy them for being able to create a fantasy world of their own.
However, after many attempts, I have to sigh that I may not have the ability to write a long work, at least not yet.
The reason I say this is because I have spent some time thinking carefully about whether writing a book is a joy or a burden for me.
Finally, my conclusion is that I am still very happy to simply share an idea in my mind.
But the long daily updates are painful for me.
My family members asked me why I wrote such a long book, why not just 100,000 words? I explained to them that Qidian.com only started charging for writing books with more than 100,000 words.
But I have to admit that what my family said is right.
Maybe it’s because I’m just an idea-driven writer, and long series are a burden to me. My initial enthusiasm will be wasted in the daily updates day after day.
Moreover, serializing for a long time will make my brain muddy and I will slowly forget what is interesting.
So, I made a decision that, starting from the next book, I would try to shorten the length of each book and indicate from the beginning that it was a short story.
I think 300,000 words is enough, and it took more than two months to finish. I won't be too bored, and it can also keep the recommendation after the first release. If Qidian hadn't released it late, I would have kept it shorter.
If the response is good and I really want to make this book longer, I can definitely start a "second part" and take a break of one or two months between the two parts.
Just like the model of physical books and movie trilogies/n-part trilogies, if the response to one part is good, you can move on to the next one. You can take a break in the middle to organize the outline and ideas. You don’t have to continue serializing to avoid confusion.
The only drawback is that it affects subscription income. But it is not a big problem. Compared with writing a novel of 10 million words and 300,000 words, the proportion of paid chapters is only 50% higher. If you choose the right or wrong topic, the subscription may be several times different.
Of course, this is just a very superficial idea, and it is different from the normal model of Qidian. I don’t know if it will succeed, so let’s just leave it like this for now.
If we can really make a name for ourselves, it will be considered a model innovation at the starting point.
