Chapter 53 The Belief in Ghosts and Gods 6
The five men felt a chill run down their spines and up their necks, making their hair stand on end.
That scoundrel just said they're going to die?!
Old Zheng frowned, his face grim. Their line of work was very risky, and they had met many feng shui masters, but these words came from the mouth of a ghost. Should they believe them?
Zheng Shiyi stammered as he spoke, a thin layer of sweat appearing on his forehead. He said to Zheng Laoqi, "Seventh Brother, what should we do? We definitely have to go see the goods tomorrow. Was that old man serious, or was he just trying to scare us?"
Zheng Laoqi didn't reply. He picked up a cigarette, lit it, and smoked it vigorously. The others also lit cigarettes and smoked, the white smoke unable to dispel the sorrow on their faces.
After finishing his cigarette, Zheng Laoqi said, "Don't go out yet, I'll go ask the old man what's going on."
Then Zheng Laoqi went back to his room. When he was packing his things, he took a mobile phone with him, just in case. Unexpectedly, he actually came in handy.
As for Luo Shu's matter, Zheng Xia told the old master about it after he saw it last time.
Although Old Master Zheng doesn't manage much affairs now, having an elder in the family is like having a treasure; he is the pillar of the Zheng family.
Zheng Laoqi's attitude towards Luo Shu was also influenced by the advice given by Zheng Laotaiye.
In the north, there are shamans who have invited a spirit or deity into their home and respect them.
They arrived at a rather remote place with poor signal. It took Zheng Laoqi a while to find a signal and make a call. Zheng Laoqi first greeted the old man before repeating what Luo Shu had just said to him.
After a while, a lighter clicked on the other end of the cell phone, and it was estimated that Old Master Zheng had also lit a cigarette. The smoke from the other end seemed to drift over to Old Master Zheng's side, making his throat even drier.
After two or three minutes, Zheng Laoqi became increasingly anxious, when finally the old man's hoarse voice came from the other end: "Believe her. Don't go out for the next two days. If the things are gone, they're gone; if you lose your life, you're really gone."
Zheng Laoqi felt a sense of relief, only to realize that his face was wet with sweat.
Before the call ended, Zheng Laoqi was about to say hello to the old man and hang up when he heard another voice say, "The snuff bottle, the Zhang family bought it back and had Master Fan examine it. He said it's fake."
When Zheng Laoqi realized what the old man had said, he was in a daze and couldn't quite come to his senses. Then he heard that his elder brother had already hung up. He composed himself and trusted Luo Shu even more.
Back in his brother's room, Zheng Laoqi relayed the old man's words. The remaining four were somewhat unwilling, as the cooked duck was about to fly away, but their lives were the most important thing.
In their line of work, besides being bold and meticulous, the most important thing is not to be greedy.
Don't you see how many people have been ruined by greed?
The group was quite tired. After two days of traveling, their bodies were exhausted. Now that they saw no hope of finding the tomb, they decided to get a good night's sleep and conserve their energy.
If I can at least have some soup after these two days, I can at least make back the money I spent on gas for this drive, that would be great.
The group went home, washed up, and then went to sleep.
The other people watching the Zheng family also found it increasingly strange. These past two days, the Zheng family members had been going to the food street, bringing back a lot of food, but they wouldn't eat it and would throw it away a while later.
They even went to a women's clothing store. A group of grown men were picking out women's clothes, and it gave the people staring at them goosebumps.
The Zheng family is behaving strangely; could they have gone mad?
There are such arguments.
Some people believe that the Zheng family has ulterior motives and is probably planning something big, which is why they are becoming more and more cautious.
The strangest thing is that after they arrived in Shanxi Province, they didn't visit the pit (the burial site). Everyone knew they were there for these items, so the Zheng family stood out. All the other members of the group had been down into the pit, but the Zheng family acted like tourists. What did that mean?
Those who were familiar with the Zheng family took the opportunity to ask them while they were having dinner. Zheng Laoqi just laughed it off. The others, seeing that they couldn't get any information out of him, didn't bother to make a fool of themselves.
And so, the five men stayed quietly in the hotel for two days, only going out to buy food for Luo Shu and staying in their room watching TV and playing cards.
Two days later, as the sun set, a blood-red hue spread across the horizon.
Zheng Laoqi and the others carried a bunch of food into the room. Luo Shu's window was open, and she was sitting on the windowsill, wearing a T-shirt and denim shorts. She was barefoot, and her jade-like feet were dangling in the air, making people blush.
She turned her head to look outside, the setting sun shining on her face, her porcelain-white face enveloped in a halo of light, serene and beautiful.
For a moment, Zheng and his companions were dazzled by the beautiful sight, and they forgot that the person sitting in front of them was a demon star.
When Luo Shu turned around, her red lips, black hair, and alluring beauty were still visible. Her captivating peach blossom eyes sent a chill down Zheng Laoqi and the others' spines. Only then did the men come to their senses and dare not look at the terrifying star in front of them again.
The group placed the snacks they had bought on the table, lit incense sticks, and Luo Shu appeared in a chair, enjoying their offerings.
After Luo Shu finished eating, Zheng Laoqi and the others cleaned up the trash and were about to leave when Luo Shu said directly, "Tonight, I want to go there and take a look."
Before Zheng Laoqi and the others could react, they looked at each other and then respectfully replied, "Alright, if Miss wants to go, we'll make the arrangements now."
Luo Shu waved her hand, and the group hurriedly went to contact the person in charge. Since the pit wasn't theirs, they naturally had to make arrangements with the person in charge before they could go there that evening.
Strangely enough, when they went to look for the shovel in the pit, they couldn't find anyone. When they asked the hotel owner, he also said he didn't know.
Zheng Laoqi went to ask the Zhang family, but he couldn't get any answers.
The Zhang family said that they had almost finished packing up the things they needed to get yesterday, and since everyone was taking inventory yesterday, they didn't go down into the pit.
What's chilling is that none of those who went down into the pit yesterday have returned today.
Zhang Biao, the third son in the Zhang family, was the head of the household and was usually called Zhang Laosan or Zhang Sanye.
In the afternoon, he rushed over to find Zheng Laoqi, saying that he had a nephew, a highly regarded junior, who went down to the tomb with a young man from the Wang family last night, but hadn't returned yet, and was afraid something had happened to him.
Seeing that the Zheng family was looking for the person in charge of that pit, who must be going down into the tomb, he offered to take them down with him because he had connections. However, the Zhang family wanted to go down with them, which was strange. It would be good for the two families to look out for each other.
When Zheng Laoqi heard this, he realized it was true, but his son, Tianmoxing, wanted to go along too, so it was really hard to agree.
It's not easy to refuse directly.
He searched through all the shovels the Zheng family knew, but found no trace of them. They were probably all dead in the pit. Without the Zhang family's connections, forcing his way in wouldn't have been possible; going with them was probably the best option.
But, alas, this is really difficult to handle.
Zheng Laoqi only said that he needed to think about it and would give Zhang Laosan an answer in an hour.
Zhang Laosan didn't urge them. Their line of work is conservative, and each family has its own connections. It's understandable that the Zheng family didn't want to go down into the tomb with them.
He simply replied that they should think it over carefully, and he would wait.
Meanwhile, Zheng Laoqi, steeling himself, knocked on Luo Shu's door.
