A brief summary of Book 5, "The Next Stars".

This volume is finally finished.

Drum, clap your hands...

Exhaustion is like running a long-distance race that leaves you completely worn out; you know you can't run anymore, but you still have to keep going.

I'm about to start rambling on to myself again. I don't know if anyone will read this simple summary that I wrote with some effort, but I did put a lot of thought into it.

I'm writing this partly to explain what I want to express, and partly to organize my thoughts.

Anyway, thank you all for listening to my rambling.

(bow--)

...

...

In summary, this is a volume that has been fraught with hardship.

In terms of word count, it went from 346 to 445 chapters, exactly 100 chapters.

Yes, all of this was within my meticulous calculations!

(Actually, no—)

I started writing this volume of 210,000 words on October 6, 2022. I took more than a month to go on vacation back in China, so I didn't finish it until December 18, 2022, which took almost two and a half months.

Although there were significant problems with the update, I managed to finish writing it, albeit with some stumbles along the way.

The good news is that after a month-long vacation back home, although I've gained a lot of weight, my physical condition is much better than before.

They should be able to live a little longer! (Subjectively speaking)

The bad news is, this volume left me feeling lost.

It's genuine confusion, even... pain.

There are reasons for this, including my subjectively fragile Dao heart that has been broken and patched up repeatedly, as well as some objective reasons.

Let's not talk about those old, troubling issues like keeping up with reading and grades.

I'm really tired of talking.

I've said it many, many times, and the conclusion is that those who want to watch will watch no matter what, and those who don't want to watch won't watch no matter how much I say.

I am now like a rosebud waiting to bloom—I've come to terms with it.

Let's not talk about those sad things anymore. Let's mainly talk about what I want to write in this volume.

...

...

The overall tone of the previous volume, the fourth volume, "The Demon King," was "hope mixed with sadness and despair."

Following this volume, the fifth volume has an even more somber tone than the previous ones.

The underlying theme of this volume is—"madness".

It's not just a simple, individual case of mental madness, but a complex and multifaceted kind of madness.

First, [human madness].

Having lost his friend Song Yishun, the dwarf axe warrior Tataka, filled with grief and indignation, resolutely took up his weapon again and returned to the battlefield.

Grand Duke Hanci possesses two twisted and incongruous sides: he employs the most radical command methods, yet he is most concerned about the deaths of his subordinates.

Led by Cole, those soldiers who voluntarily stepped onto the battlefield also possessed a certain degree of "madness."

Humans are insane.

Second, [The Madness of Extraordinary Creatures]

A distorted faith: when a thousand years of unwavering devotion is twisted and deformed by the passage of time, what will be left in the end?

It's insane.

Blindly believing that the gods will return, and going to any lengths to achieve this goal, has reached a pathological level.

Such fanatics will not hesitate to sacrifice others or themselves.

It was this morbid madness that led to the sacrifices in the First Blood War Zone.

Extraordinary beings are insane.

Third, [the madness of the gods]

In this volume, the gods finally take center stage.

The gods who have passed away, those souls known as "the spirits of the past".

Mourner, Uchi, Goat Spirit, Shaman Goddess.

They are dead, but not completely dead. They resist their own death, trying to climb out of the state of death and return to the world of the living.

It's not hard to imagine what decisions they would make once they awoke from the moment of death, with their remaining rationality.

They are crazy too.

Fourth, [Ning Feng's Madness]

He was never a normal person; his spirit was too strong, his capacity to accept things far exceeded that of ordinary people, and his way of thinking was too cold.

This point is not only described in this volume, but is gradually revealed in the details of each volume.

Ning Feng is rational. Except for matters concerning a few people, he can think with an extremely rational mindset, including when it comes to himself.

He always viewed his injuries objectively, considering how to stop the bleeding, how to repair them, and how to maximize his value before his body was beyond repair...

This rationality, which treats everything, including oneself, equally, is the essence of Ning Feng's ruthlessness, and it is also a kind of madness.

Absolute rationality is absolute madness.

In this twisted and morbid world, Ning Feng had long been twisted as well, but he had only maintained a facade of normalcy.

But he didn't go crazy. He maintained his normalcy by using Xilin and Jiang Wan as anchors.

Fifth, [The Madness of the World]

The previous points represent the madness of individuals and groups; the last point represents the madness of the world.

Humans and supernatural beings have never laid down their weapons against each other in their struggle for control of the world.

This world is a treasure they fight over, but also a distorted battlefield.

They were born here, grew up here, and fought here until they died.

This volume reveals the true nature of the apparent peace, showing that war has never truly gone away and continues to occur in unknown corners of the world.

Everyone involved is subject to this fate and cannot escape it; they must face it.
