A brief summary of Volume 4, "The Demon King"

As I said before:

[It's impossible for me to become a eunuch; I will never become a eunuch in my life.]

A story has a beginning, and it should have an end.

Regardless of how it ends, it deserves a proper conclusion!

While absolutely not abandoning the project, I will strive to avoid a bad ending.

Of course, this depends not only on perseverance, but also on my ability.

I just hope I won't let myself or everyone else down.

This is an explanation to you, and even more so to myself.

...

...

Now that I've finished reporting on my physical and mental health, let's get down to business.

First, there's the title of the fourth volume, "The Demon King."

It is taken from Goethe's narrative poem, and Schubert also composed a ballad of the same name based on this poem.

The narrative poem is described through four distinct characters—the son, the father, the demon king, and the narrator—and specific settings.

The story tells of a father carrying his sick son on horseback through a misty forest on a dark, windy night. From the darkness comes the anxious and terrified cries of the unconscious child, and the evil and cunning phantom of a demon king is luring and coercing the child to go with him.

In my personal opinion and understanding, this is a story with tragic elements and a touch of mystery.

This actually laid the foundation for the basic color scheme of this volume long ago.

It was filled with hope, tinged with sadness and despair.

All the stories in this volume follow the overarching theme of the "Demon King".

The opening of this volume picks up where the previous volume left off, with the appearance of the saint among the extraordinary beings, and the Stargazers taking action.

The Stargazers used Ning Feng's body to thwart the Saints' plans, seemingly killing the sacrificial Archangel with ease.

First, the momentum of the supernatural beings was suppressed, preventing the situation from erupting immediately and instead creating a calm before the storm.

This situation led to the saints mentioning the legend of the "Demon King" for the first time.

[The demon king who will bring about the end of the gods, Ragnarok.]

There are many possible interpretations of the Demon King.

The most superficial and easiest-to-understand explanation is that the Demon King, as the name suggests, is the "King of Demons," or the lord of demons in a certain abyss.

This is also the origin of the plot in the Abyss, the explicit storyline of Kalan.

That is, tell Karan that "she will eventually become queen," and that she will inevitably kill her relatives and usurp the throne to become the new demon lord.

To cultivate a chess piece rooted in the abyss.

Karan, on the other hand, is a purely evil woman and a qualified schemer.

There was no intention to create any kind of "gap moe" (cuteness/contrast) in her; she is simply a demon who, true to her nature, wants to climb the social ladder step by step.

A wicked woman who is evil enough to sacrifice others for her own selfish gain.

In order to gain more power, she would endure the pain of extracting human blood from her body to purify the demon's bloodline.

In order to gain a false sense of freedom, she could remain under the Fire Demon Queen's control and become her offspring even after those hybrids sacrificed themselves for her.

In exchange for the reward, she would not hesitate to accept orders to slaughter the rioting slaves in the Third Hellfire.

Karan is purely evil, and for Ning Feng, all he needs is a pawn that is pure enough.

In this storyline, Ning Feng plays the role of a profound and unfathomable sage, a mysterious and great being hiding in the sacred sanctuary.

With the help of the Sacred Word Secret Place, he can obtain more information from extraordinary beings and also make plans in the abyss.

The aberrant demon he named, Abnormal… [Death Hunter], is a character who can substantially provide power to help Kalan gain status.

Moreover, its human-like appearance and positioning, well... it's more like a younger, loyal dog type. ( )

It sounds weird, and this attribute is indeed a bit strange. I got the inspiration from my WeChat Moments!

It's my friends who are acting strangely, not me. (I'm sure of it)

Cough cough.

Then, in this volume, there is another special character.

Song Yishun.

An ordinary person who is not so ordinary.

He entered the extraordinary world and had a seemingly glamorous life, but he did not truly belong there.

So he wanted to leave, to resign and go home to live a happy and fulfilling life with his family.

As an ordinary person, he enriched his worldview and became a part of this world.

Moreover, he has another crucial quality.

He has a bright future and high expectations for it.

However, it was mercilessly destroyed by the Flame Demon Queen.

The fact that someone like Song Yishun suffered such hardship was one of the reasons that made Ning Feng finally make up his mind.

Beyond that, Song Yishun actually has another meaning.

Although it wasn't much, I added some personal feelings to the description of this character.

Fed up with my current life, I long to return to my hometown.

I left for Africa a month after graduation, and I've been there for a year and two months now.

Being alone out here, coupled with my unstable emotions lately, has made me somewhat vulnerable.

Many times, especially recently, I've wanted to go home and write books full-time.

But I also know in my heart that I can't support myself with my current achievements.

That's impractical and completely unrealistic.

People should have dreams, but the prerequisite for achieving those dreams is to survive.

My current job is the capital that allows me to write books without being overly concerned about results, and it is also the source of my livelihood.
