Chapter 265 The Real Reason

"Branch manager, we'll be leaving now."

Ning Feng bowed respectfully to the aloof Shirin and then left the branch manager's office with Rod.

Clang.

As the door closed, Rod involuntarily exhaled, letting his tense muscles relax.

legend……

The outgoing minister is actually a legend!

Although she barely looked at him, that feeling of indifference and power was deeply ingrained in his soul.

horrible.

Is this the legend of the Watchers?

I feel that even compared to all the legends I've ever seen, this one ranks among the top.

Out of respect for the legend, Rhodes did not examine the other party's appearance closely, but only had a general impression.

What's your impression of the minister?

In stark contrast to Rhodes's mood, Ning Feng's relaxed voice brought him back to his senses, and he smiled somewhat awkwardly:

"I was initially quite confident, but after meeting this gentleman, I'm a bit uncertain."

If all the branch leaders of the Watchers are at this level, then my own strength might not be enough.

"Um...can I ask why?"

Why me?

Anyone with even a basic understanding of Overwatch's background knows they would definitely have a better candidate.

There's no way I, an outsider, could be appointed to the position of branch manager.

But now, his parachuting in is proceeding without any resistance.

There must be a reason for these strange occurrences.

Ning Feng had already guessed that Rhodes would ask this question, so he wasn't surprised and answered directly:

"You really don't need to worry about this."

"If I were a Watcher, I would tell you this..."

"We conducted a detailed investigation into your background, life experiences, interpersonal relationships, personality and habits... After a thorough review, we finally came to a conclusion."

"You are a qualified candidate."

By the standards of a wild Awakened, Rhodes is definitely an outstanding lone wolf.

Talented, capable, well-connected... and most importantly, possessing a strong sense of self.

No major problems were found after such an audit, so Rhodes' character can be guaranteed to a certain extent. As an outsider, he is quite qualified.

"But if it's about Ning Feng personally, I would have a different explanation."

After a pause, Ning Feng thought for a moment and said:

"You helped me a lot during the competition, so this is just a small way I can repay you."

After all, I've made you do a lot of things as a tool.

I, Ning, am not some devilish capitalist. I can't expect people to work without getting paid, can I?

Is it really that simple?

Is this level of transfer just a small reward?

Rhodes remained silent in the face of the invisible energy that Ning Feng had displayed.

He paused, then, encouraged by Ning Feng's gaze, refrained from asking further questions and instead said:

"I sense that lady doesn't think much of me..."

Hostility?

It's not quite, but the feeling of being ignored is very obvious.

The other party didn't take him seriously at all; more than 90% of their attention was on Ning Feng.

"Don't worry, she actually welcomes your arrival."

Really?

Given his numerous past transgressions, Rhodes was hesitant to believe Ning Feng's words and could only offer an ambiguous, awkward smile.

"It's true, after all..."

Suddenly, Ning Feng's expression shifted slightly, then he smiled apologetically at Luo De and said:

"I'm sorry, I just received a notification that the branch manager has something else to discuss with me."

"Could you go to the command center and find Instructor Yan? Just follow the signs; he's the one we met before. He'll tell you what to do next."

"Oh, okay, it's alright."

Watching Ning Feng turn around and walk into the laboratory, and after the door closed again, Rhodes sighed silently.

"Something just doesn't feel right..."

Everything went too smoothly.

For Rhodes, this experience was simply too outrageous, going so smoothly that it was unbelievable.

"A reward? I only did those things, do I deserve such a big reward?"

It's definitely not worth it.

He felt a slight sense of unease, but Rod knew he couldn't let this precious opportunity slip by.

Opportunity favors the prepared mind; if he misses this chance, he doesn't know when a better opportunity will come.

"Whatever he wants from me, he'll have to wait until I become the branch manager."

"Furthermore, although we don't know exactly what Ning Feng did, he must have paid a price."

I just watched the whole process of the branch manager, and the branch manager kept staring intently at Ning Feng with an unfathomable gaze.

Is he angry?

Was all of this orchestrated by the forces behind Ning Feng?

Was that branch manager a loser in the power struggle?

...

Upon entering the room, Ning Feng's expression changed slightly, and he stopped at the doorway.

His smile remained unchanged, and to outsiders, no change was apparent; Ning Feng was deep in thought.

The reasons given by Rhodes cannot be said to be entirely false, but they can at least be considered part of the reasons.

To put it bluntly, that was just a small part of the grandiose reasons that Rhodes could accept.

As for the real reason...

"It's actually true."

Lowering his head, Ning Feng gestured with his hands, indicating a space the size of a fist.
