Chapter Fifty-Eight: Rhetorical Question

"What's so interesting about asking that?"

Yan Rulong's voice was unsuppressed, and the operatives watching around him stiffened up a bit. They couldn't figure out what choice the usually strict Instructor Yan would make.

Is it about being completely rational and handling this incident in the best, albeit most ruthless, way?

Should we be a little more impulsive and try to save that hero, even if it's irrational?

Is it about being a qualified commander?

Or should I become a respected leader?

Everyone was waiting for his reply and decision.

The atmosphere was somewhat tense, but Yan Rulong seemed completely oblivious, his gaze never wavering.

He glanced around coldly, and all the agents who met his gaze subconsciously looked away.

What are you doing?

Yan Rulong slammed his hand on the table and shouted:

"Support them! Why aren't you supporting them?"

His eyes lit up, and although he agreed with the idea, the leader of Group D still subconsciously spoke up:

“But Ning Feng himself said…”

I do have this intention, and from a priority perspective, it is indeed as Ning Feng said—saving him would be somewhat counterproductive…

If we consider it from the perspective of wartime emergency strategies, then following his approach would be perfectly acceptable.

snort.

Yan Rulong snorted, frowned, and addressed everyone:

"I'm asking you, is this a question of whether or not to save one operator?"

No one answered.

Only a small number of people seemed to suddenly realize the deeper meaning behind Yan Rulong's words.

Yan Rulong strode towards the command platform, looked down at the various officers with differing expressions, and said coldly:

"Everyone."

"Is the Bincheng branch facing a life-or-death crisis?"

"Has it come to the point where we have to consider sacrificing operators?!"

Filled with anger, Yan Rulong's voice, in the most domineering way, dispelled the tension in the hall.

The tension in the hearts of the officers shifted to a different kind of tension, the fear that students feel when they are dragged out for a lecture by the head of student affairs.

That's it, that feels right!

This irresistible, overwhelming sense of blood pressure...

As he spoke, Yan Rulong became increasingly agitated and shouted:

"It seems that too much peace has made you complacent and weak. But what does it matter if you can't contact headquarters?"

"Are we cowards who can only survive by relying on support from headquarters?!"

"Does our Bincheng branch have no shame at all?!"

Bang!

"Are they all mute?!"

"say!!!"

Bang!

The scene was eerily silent; no one spoke, but a fighting spirit that had been subconsciously ignored ignited in their eyes.

"Everyone, please don't forget, we are the Watchers."

With a strong sense of confidence and pride, Yan Rulong stood ramrod straight, exuding an imposing aura.

"To put it bluntly, we are the saviors who have been secretly protecting this world for thousands of years."

"And now, just a small accident has made you all show such ugly behavior?"

"I'm very disappointed! Extremely disappointed!"

"After this is all settled, everyone is to copy the Watchmen's Handbook three times!"

"Do you understand?"

As soon as Yan Rulong finished speaking, an officer answered loudly:

"clear!!!"

Sensing that their fighting spirit had been stirred up, Yan Rulong decided to add fuel to the fire one last time!

The anger on his face faded, replaced by an arrogant expression:

"Moreover... if the command of operations falls into the hands of the combat units, then what is the point of having a command unit?"

Radiating intense confidence, Yan Rulong, contrary to his usual demeanor, spoke with disdain:

"Whether it's Ning Feng or anyone else, these combat units are nothing but a bunch of reckless brutes who only know how to show off their personal heroism."

"You brute!"

"Every single one of them thinks that sacrificing themselves can save everything."

Oh!

"Instead of wasting time listening to their nonsense, we should use this time to think of a way to save everyone and give them a good slap in the face."

"Do you understand?"

Infected by the intense confidence emanating from him, a loud shout erupted in the command hall.

"Got it!!!"

It seemed as if he wanted to vent all the fear in his heart with this roar.

yes!

What's there to panic about? What's there to be afraid of? Why should we follow the battle order?

Yes, we don't usually need headquarters' command. We solve everything ourselves, so nothing has changed!

Moreover, we still have to go and rescue those brutes.

Without us, they'd cause a huge mess!

"Now that you understand, get back to your posts right now!"

"yes!!!"

Nodding in satisfaction, Yan Rulong turned around and looked at the real-time map in the hall, leaving everyone else with only his proud and imposing back view.

Like they'd been injected with adrenaline, each one brimming with passion, the operators threw themselves into their intense work with overwhelming enthusiasm.

Even some rational operators who weren't affected by the emotions around them seemed to have a sense of certainty after secretly seeing Yan Rulong's imposing figure.

Everything seemed to be back on track.

What they didn't know was...

Beneath that serious expression, everyone perceived Instructor Yan as calm and composed, but how tense he was was.

"What exactly happened?"

Were all the things he told the commander lying?

No, Yan Rulong didn't tell a single lie; he just deliberately downplayed some things.
