Chapter Sixteen: His and Her Choice

Ning Feng never imagined that one day his nose would become as sensitive to blood and qi as an animal's.

The moment he entered, he smelled a sweet aroma mixed with a faint fishy smell.

At first, he thought it was the effect of the succubus bloodline, that he was sensing a scent like body fragrance.

But when Jiang Wan stepped forward to straighten his clothes, the strong scent filled his nostrils, making him freeze in place. Only then did Ning Feng realize the problem.

Ning Feng did indeed smell the woman's fragrance, which aroused some of his desires, but what made it even harder for him to control himself was...

It smells like fresh blood.

The pure blood of a young woman.

Succubi are a complete race, not just females; male succubi also exist.

Male succubi, as the warmongers and cannon fodder of their race, may not be particularly attractive, but their thirst for battle is average among demons.

They are passionate about killing and revel in the feeling of bathing in blood.

Ning Feng also wanted to smear that blood all over parts of his body...

"Tsk, what a twisted idea."

"I would never have thought this way before. Sure enough, this bloodline is really impure!"

It's not my fault, it's all the fault of the succubus bloodline!

Shaking his head, Ning Feng banished the impulsive thought from his mind and recalled Jiang Wan's seemingly carefree yet flustered steps as she left.

"Although she is willing to put on a brave face, she is not the kind of person who would joke about her life. The fact that she didn't say it out loud shows that she can still hold on."

Overall, although Jiang Wan likes to put on a brave face in front of herself, she is not someone who is overly concerned with saving face.

"Then I guess she's probably in some infirmary getting her wound treated right now."

Moving among the bottles and jars, the black cat, like a spirit or an unpredictable shadow, asked with a smile:

"Do you think it's possible that the blood is from her own body? Like on some special day?"

"Impossible, it's not the appointed time yet, it's probably still half a month away."

Ning Feng's answer was so natural and fluent that even Ariana was taken aback for a moment, blinking before replying:

"You remember all of this?"

And, is it really that easy to do without even thinking about it?

"Remembering is just the most basic concern between family members, and it's just a natural physical reaction, nothing to be ashamed of."

Unaware of Ariana's tactical backward glance, Ning Feng silently began to tidy up the bandages and medicines that Jiang Wan had previously haphazardly hidden away.

Ariana didn't actually push everything off the table like a cat, making a mess, and asked, somewhat strangely:

"Since you've discovered it, why didn't you say anything?"

After a pause, Ning Feng naturally put the medicine bottle back on the shelf.

"Because not saying it is the better choice."

"The best choice I could make was to suppress my impulse and not expose the facade she was trying so hard to maintain at that time."

If it were the Ning Feng of the past, the first thing he would do upon noticing the problem would be to have Jiang Wan expose the wound and bandage it for her, and then give her a lecture.

But doing so would make Jiang Wan's hard work go to waste.

Sometimes, it's necessary not to expose someone's true intentions.

"That's gentleness."

Although he spoke in a gentle voice, Ning Feng's expression at this moment was so calm that it could even be described as indifferent.

"Oh dear, how heartless!"

Wagging its tail, the black cat earnestly imitated certain scenes and laughed:

"As her only family member, shouldn't you be doing everything you can to protect her? Like that kind of 'If you want to hurt her, you'll have to step over my dead body first' tone."

After skillfully putting everything back in its place, Ning Feng turned around, leaned against the cabinet, and said earnestly:

“I’m very worried. I don’t want anything to happen to her more than anyone else. I want her to stay in the safe rear as an administrative staff member.”

“But Jiang Wan is my family, not a doll I want to hold in my palm. She has her own choices.”

Without a flicker of emotion in his eyes, Ning Feng calmly met Ariana's gaze and said softly:

"It was she who chose to join the fight, it was she who chose to leave her home alone, it was she who chose to live with death and danger."

Is it dangerous for Jiang Wan to join the combat force?

She knew it, but she still made the choice.

"She made all the choices, so she also bears the consequences."

"Whether the outcome is joyful or bitter, I will let her experience it and watch her grow."

A faint smile flashed in Ning Feng's eyes as she recalled the time of their initial parting, when she had done the same thing as she did today.

There was no grand farewell between them, because family members don't truly part ways.

Even death cannot separate family members.

After a moment of silence, Ariana suddenly asked:

"Wouldn't keeping her by your side be the best option? You can help her anytime."

Shaking his head, Ning Feng got up from in front of the cabinet and walked towards the door, explaining:

"Jiang Wan is not my property; she is herself."

"If her choice is right, I will not become a stumbling block in her path, nor will I beg her to stay by my side."

That's cowardly and incompetent; Ning Feng would never stoop to doing such a thing.

"I will do everything I can to help her and provide her with the greatest assistance."

"It is the adults' responsibility to let children take risks."

Ariana scrutinized Ning Feng for a long time, as if she were seeing him in a completely new light, and suddenly burst out laughing:

"This doesn't sound like something a brother would say; it sounds like something a father would say! What kind of father are you?"
