12. Night 12: Rejection
After the cubs finished breakfast, Lu Man asked them to go back and prepare for class. She saw that the little mermaid was still sitting in his seat, so she walked behind his wheelchair and pushed him to the room where they would be having class.
The little mermaid lowered his head until Lu Man pushed him into the room and prepared to leave. He raised his head with red eyes.
"Are you telling the truth? Miss Lu Xi is really gone?"
"Of course." Lu Man raised his eyebrows and said.
Arsente gritted his teeth and said, "Ms. Lu Xi is not wrong."
She did nothing wrong and shouldn't have left.
"If it's not her fault, then whose fault is it?" Lu Man looked at him, "Is it your fault? Do you want to be sent away?"
Arsente opened his eyes blankly, "If, if you send me away... will Miss Lu Xi come back..."
"Huh?" Lu Man didn't expect him to say that.
"If I leave, will she come back?" the little mermaid asked through gritted teeth, clenching his fists and staring at her fiercely.
"Are you stupid?" Lu Man frowned at him, "Do you know how many cubs want to stay, especially you?"
Lu Man has the information of each cub in her hands. She is very concerned about this little mermaid because of the tragedy that happened to the mermaid tribe. This matter has attracted a certain amount of attention from the entire demon tribe and the Lu family.
"Send me away." He said with red eyes, "Miss Lu Xi is not wrong. It's none of her business. Let her come back."
"I refuse." Lu Man said.
"Why."
"The instructions given to me are to replace her as the housekeeper here. I won't do anything extra except taking care of you." It has to be said that Lu Man did better than Lu Xi in obeying orders.
"Let me go tell them."
"No way." Lu Man narrowed his eyes, "Do you understand your situation? What will happen to you if you fail to awaken again?"
"Why should you care about that woman? Shouldn't you think more about yourself than about her?" Lu Man said, "Your people all died tragically. You are their last hope."
Lu Man's words pierced Assente's heart, causing his body to suddenly stiffen. Yes, all his people were dead, and now he was the only one left. He had to seize every opportunity to become stronger and take revenge.
Miss Lu Xi belongs to the Lu family. Even if she can no longer be the housekeeper, the Lu family will not do anything to her and she can still live a good life.
But he is different, he must stay.
Only by staying here can he become stronger.
"I'm right, right? Lu Xi only took care of you for a while. She took care of you because of her duty. If it weren't for her identity as a 'housekeeper', you two would just be strangers."
After Lu Man finished speaking, he saw the little mermaid's shoulders shaking slightly, and he lowered his head dejectedly.
Assente can't just think about himself. He can't go to the welfare home until the revenge of his tribe is avenged. He has things he should do.
So, he couldn't change anything at all.
At night, Lu Man flipped through the notes left by Lu Xi, completed each task one by one, and finally came to the mermaid's room.
The lights in the mermaid's room were still on. He was lying on the bed motionless. If his eyes were not open, one would have thought he was asleep.
Lu Man walked to the bookshelf and took down a thick storybook. She opened it and saw a bookmark stuck inside. She sat down on the bed and asked, "Are you sleepy? Do you want to hear a story?"
The little mermaid didn't respond. Lu Man thought of the notes left by Lu Xi, which said that the little mermaid never chose her own stories.
So she picked up one at random and started telling it.
The woman's rhythmic voice echoed in the room. Lu Man had studied broadcasting, and her storytelling tone was lively and vivid, completely different from Lu Xi, who was just reading from a book.
However, such a vivid storytelling was soon interrupted by the little mermaid, who suddenly turned over and wrapped his head with a quilt.
"Stop talking."
"What's wrong? You don't like this story?"
"Stop talking."
His voice trembled slightly. Lu Man stared at the little mermaid with her head covered with a quilt for a while, closed the storybook, stood up, put the book back on the bookshelf, walked to the door and looked back at him.
"Go to bed early, good night."
Before leaving, she helped him turn off the light.
In the dark room, there was only a small night light emitting a dim light, like the only light in hell.
In the pitch-black environment, his mind became more active and clearer, and the fragments of his interactions with Lu Xi during this period kept popping up in his mind.
The scene where she bandaged his wound, the scene where she told him to be strong, her hands were warm, warmer than the sun on the sea, she said she would teach him to be strong, that she would tell her stories...
But now she has left.
"Ms. Lu Xi..."
Arsenal's feeling now was just like when he got separated from her in the mall. The environment frightened him and he was in extreme fear. Fortunately, she found him quickly in the end.
But this time, he didn't show up even though he was clearly afraid of her.
They may never meet again.
…
The next day, Lu Man came over and called the little mermaid to get up.
In order to ensure that the cubs can adapt to her as soon as possible, her current work is carried out completely according to Lu Xi's arrangements, including when to wake them up, when to make breakfast, and when to go to class. Except for the fact that the housekeeper has changed her face, nothing seems to have changed.
The cubs were very fond of the new housekeeper, and he could hear their laughter and chatter as the maid wheeled Assente through the yard.
The little mermaid clenched her fists in annoyance, "Don't go over there."
He stopped the maid from pushing him that way.
