14. Night 14: Find Her
In the pitch-black night, the deserted road was lit only by the faint light of street lamps. Moths fluttered in the light, and there were some injured little insects that had fallen to the ground, twitching slightly.
The surroundings were terribly quiet. The naked eye could not see what was in the distance beyond the darkness. The world was swallowed by darkness.
In such darkness, the subtle sound of the wheels turning seemed so abrupt. The sound slowly came from far away until a figure in a wheelchair broke into the range of the street light.
Assente was sitting in a wheelchair, his fishtail tightly wrapped in a blanket, and his little hands were struggling to turn the wheelchair.
In his eyes with special structure, it was not so difficult to see things clearly in the endless darkness. However, the more he saw, the more confused he felt, because this place was really remote, so remote that he could not see any people or shops, let alone the people he wanted to see.
After sneaking out of the villa, he followed the direction he remembered she had taken him in the car, but it was difficult to smell her scent in the air, and he didn't know where to find her.
Reason told him that he should go back to his room and continue sleeping. If he escaped before anyone noticed, he might not be punished.
But, if I go back like this...
The little mermaid lowered his head and clenched his fists. After a long while, he continued to turn the wheelchair, moving forward slowly bit by bit. It was so difficult for him to walk a few steps that a normal person could do.
There was a sound of brakes, and the blinding light shone on Arsenal. He squinted and saw a human getting out of the car. "Little boy, why are you still outside so late?"
Arsente stopped turning his wheelchair, raised one hand and pulled the hood of his sweatshirt down a little to cover his silver-blue hair and eyes, and with the other hand he tightly grasped the blanket wrapped around his lower body.
"where are you going?"
With his eyes hidden under the hat, Assente vaguely saw that the person standing in front of him looked very thin and exuded a smell that he really disliked, even a little disgusting.
"Looking for someone..."
"Looking for someone? Uncle can help you."
Arsenal looked at him blankly. This stranger actually offered to help him. His inner vigilance made him want to refuse, but what else could he do after refusing? He had no legs to walk with, so he couldn't go anywhere. If he continued like this, the housekeeper would find out he had sneaked out and he would definitely be caught.
"Tell uncle who you are looking for."
"Miss Lu Xi." He whispered.
"Ms. Lu Xi? Oh, Lu Xi, I know her. We are good friends. So you wanted to find her. Why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"Do you really know Miss Lu Xi?" The little mermaid's eyes lit up.
"Of course, get in the car, I'll take you there."
The young man walked behind the mermaid and pushed his wheelchair to the door of the car. The car looked very old, with paint peeling in some places. It was nothing like the car Arsenal usually rode in. When he was carried into the car, Arsenal had a hard time suppressing the feeling of nausea.
The little mermaid didn't notice that the young man who carried him into the car had a malicious smile on his face after he sat in the driver's seat.
"My wheelchair." Arsenal saw that his wheelchair had not been loaded onto the bus. In the past, it would have been folded and put into the car.
"It's okay, I'm going to find Lu Xi anyway."
The joy of meeting Miss Lu Xi soon lowered Arsenal's vigilance. He didn't expect that he was so lucky to meet someone who knew Miss Lu Xi. He even imagined in his mind what they would say when they met, and his heartbeat became much faster than usual.
Arsente sat obediently in the car, quietly watching the changing scenery outside the window. The car drove from a remote place into the downtown area. There were many traffic lights and vehicles around, which reminded him of when he came out before, their car would also pass by these places.
Suddenly, when he passed an intersection, he looked up suddenly.
"It's the smell of Miss Lu Xi..." Arsenal leaned on the car window excitedly. He was really going to see Miss Lu Xi.
"Don't move." The young man stepped on the accelerator to speed up.
The car instantly turned and headed in the opposite direction. The young man glanced back at the child and saw that he had fallen on the seat due to the inertia of the turn, but he quickly got up and looked out the window.
"Miss Lu Xi is there, it must be her."
The young man's heart skipped a beat. Could it be that the child had really seen the person he was looking for? "You must have seen her wrongly. I just met her today. She said she didn't go out tonight. How could she be here?"
"But..." He smelled her scent.
"You're mistaken. It's not her. Hurry up and sit down nicely. I'll take you to find her, otherwise I'll send you back."
When he heard that he was to be sent back, Asente immediately shut up.
The wide roads of Ancheng were still busy with traffic even late at night. Lu Xi looked at the vehicles outside the window and fell into deep thought.
As soon as she received Lu Man's call, she took a taxi to look for him, but this was too strange. The little mermaid was not mobile, so even if he sneaked out of the villa, it was impossible for him to run away so far in an instant.
The only possibility...
Thinking that he might have been taken away, Lu Xi's heart sank. She hoped that this matter was not as bad as she thought. There was a river near the villa, and maybe he jumped into the river and left.
She closed her eyes and rubbed her tired brows.
