15. Night 15: Liar

15. Night 15: Liar

At the last toll station in Ancheng, on a road with few vehicles passing by, the female toll collector was yawning sleepily. When she saw a car coming, she perked up and took the card handed through the window.

The man driving the car was as thin as a bamboo pole. Through the light, I could see a small child in the back seat. The hood of his sweatshirt covered his head, and only his bright red lips and half of his chin were vaguely visible.

She took a closer look. The man driving the car looked so ugly, but she didn't expect that his son seemed to be quite handsome.

The young man caught a glimpse of the woman looking at the child in the back, so he put away the card and quickly started the car and left. Arsenal looked at the scene outside the window blankly. The car drove from the bustling streets to the remote roads, and he was always quiet because he wanted to see Lu Xi as soon as possible.

"How long will it take?" asked Arsenal.

This place is so remote, will Lu Xi live here?

"Haha, do you really think I'm going to take you to find her?" The young man spat. After leaving Ancheng, he was no longer afraid and no longer needed to pretend. "I don't know who Lu Xi is, but I'm going to take you to see another uncle now. We'll be there soon."

"What did you say..." The young man's words made Arsenal's body suddenly stiffen. His pupils contracted violently and his whole body trembled. "You don't know Miss Lu Xi, but you clearly said before..."

"Hahaha, because I'm lying to kids."

The young man looked at the child through the rearview mirror and saw that he was biting his lip and his body was shaking. A child with a disabled leg would probably be difficult to sell, but his organs should be able to make some money, enough for him to squander for a while.

"You... lied to me?"

Arsente felt as if struck by lightning. It turned out that this person didn't know Miss Lu Xi at all. It turned out that he was lying to him. He was not going to meet Miss Lu Xi at all, and he couldn't find her at all.

The secret joy, worry, and uneasiness along the way now turned into anger, and more of fear. If this person didn't know Miss Lu Xi, how could he find Miss Lu Xi? Where was she? Where could he find her?

The impatience that had been suppressed because of the youth's deception became even more uncontrollable because of the end of the lies.

He wanted to see her, he wanted to see Miss Lu Xi...

I really want to see her...

I want to see her now...

The little mermaid lowered his head, and a low pressure atmosphere lingered around him. The young man looked at him through the rearview mirror again, thinking that he was scared.

But soon, he didn't have the chance to think so.

Sharp claws gripped his throat, and his hand trembled, nearly crashing the car into the fence. Furious, he cursed and considered stopping the car to teach the child a lesson. Behind him, the mermaid's silver-blue eyes, hidden in the night, glowed an eerie red. Then, as if infected, the driver's eyes, whose neck was being strangled, also turned red.

"Take me back, I want to find Miss Lu Xi."

"Yes." The driver responded woodenly, like a puppet.

Lu Xi looked in many places, including the shopping mall and hospital where she had taken Asente, but there was no news.

Lu Xi thought about how scared he was when she brought him out before. She didn't expect that he would sneak out of the villa just to see her.

I really don’t know whether I should be angry or sad.

It was not until early morning that Lu Xi took a bus home.

On the way back in the car, she kept her spiritual sense open, trying to sense the breath of the mermaid, but unfortunately it was too far away and she couldn't sense it at all.

And this will increase her fatigue.

Before reaching the gate of the community, Lu Xi asked the driver to stop the car. She took a detour and went to the river where she had been jogging in the mornings the past two days. She was obviously very tired, but for some reason, she probably hoped that the little mermaid was in this river, if he really came to find her.

"Lu Xi, is that you?"

Lu Xi looked up and saw a tall and handsome man.

"You are..." She frowned.

"I'm Du Chusheng, we were high school classmates."

Lu Xi didn't remember those classmates very well, but after thinking about it, there seemed to be a classmate who had always been a loner and didn't have much interaction with them except in class.

"Do you live here?" Du Chusheng asked.

"Well, you live here too?"

"No, I'm sending my friend back." He shook his head and added, "It's a male friend, and he's drunk."

"Are you out for a morning run, or..." He noticed Lu Xi's clothes. She was wearing a thin coat and her face revealed fatigue. It looked more like she had just rushed home after a busy night than out for a morning run.

"I work the night shift."

"Is that so? Then go back and rest."

"Um."

"By the way, can I have your phone number?"

Lu Xi just wanted to end the conversation quickly, so after he handed her the phone, she wrote down her private phone number, and the man finally left.

There were not many people by the river in the early morning because it was still quite dark. Lu Xi walked forward with tired steps.

"Ms. Lu Xi..."

Suddenly, a voice made her freeze. She turned around and saw a wet figure climbing up the steps to the river.

"Miss Lu Xi, I found you..." Water kept dripping down the little mermaid's body, and she was grinning with a pale face like a devil.
