25. Struggle on the 25th Night

25. Night 25: Struggle

The old man said, "Come here, let's get to know each other."

Arsenal's eyes widened and his lips trembled. Lu Xi watched his reaction and stood behind him without saying a word.

"Your name is Arsenal, right?" The woman in the long skirt walked up to the child and half-knelt down. "Nice to meet you."

Arsenal stared at the woman's face, his expression tense.

"Longyue is an excellent teacher. She will teach you from now on."

Long Yue had a gentle smile on her face, from her crescent-shaped eyes to her beautiful oval face, and the curve at the corners of her mouth.

Exactly like Arsenal's mother.

"Why aren't you talking?" She tilted her head and asked, "Are you feeling unwell?"

As the woman spoke, she reached out and gently placed her hand on his face. However, the corners of his eyes trembled, and he suddenly turned his head away.

"Maybe he's shy because there are so many people around." Long Yue didn't get angry and said, "Do you want to go out for a walk? I want to take you somewhere."

Arsenal didn't answer her, but clenched his hands into fists on the blanket, lowered his head and seemed a little depressed.

Longyue walked behind him and pushed his wheelchair two steps. Asent didn't say anything, but he didn't disagree either.

The woman smiled gently and pushed him away.

Lu Xi watched the two figures gradually go away, tightened his palms slightly at his sides, turned around and looked at the old man and the steward.

"Longyue is a descendant of the Lu family's side branch, and she's been carefully selected by me. She will teach the cub on your behalf," the old man spoke before her. "I'm sure she'll do a great job."

Lu Xi didn't say anything. The old man couldn't tell what she was thinking from her calm face. "Are you not surprised by my arrangement?"

Lu Xi's expression was as calm as a lake.

The old man narrowed his eyes and continued, "If you can do well at the beginning, perhaps I will let you continue to lead him."

Her eyes were critical. “But you didn’t do it well enough.”

Lu Xi's previous actions showed that she was not someone who was easy to control, while Long Yue happened to be smart and obedient.

After Lu Muru left, Lu Xi waited in the living room for half an hour but Arsenal didn't come back, so she didn't wait any longer.

As she walked out of the living room, the autumn wind instantly enveloped her body.

The weather has been getting colder recently, and it looks like winter is approaching.

The branches above his head creaked in the wind. After Lu Xi turned a few corners, he gradually stopped and closed his eyes.

To be honest, this was really beyond her expectations.

Although she appeared calm in front of the old man, she could not deny that she was very surprised. The old man arranged for the little mermaid to live with her. She thought about why, and it was probably because the little mermaid was very attached to her.

But now a woman who looks very similar to Arsenal's mother appeared. From his shocked expression, Lu Xi knew that he didn't know whether the woman was in disguise or just looked very similar to Arsenal's mother. Her appearance always seemed to change things.

Lu Xi didn't know where Arsenal and Long Yue had gone. It was nearly two hours before Long Yue brought Arsenal back.

"He's full and a little sleepy." Long Yue said, and she gently tucked a few strands of hair that were blown by the wind behind her ears.

Lu Xi looked at the little mermaid in the wheelchair. He didn't say anything, but lowered his head to look at the flowers in his hand, which was a bunch of beautiful wild chrysanthemums.

"Okay, thank you for your help." Lu Xi said.

"It's no trouble. I like this child very much." She smiled gently, but her eyes showed a hint of sharpness.

Lu Xi noticed it, but she didn't find it strange. She never thought that Long Yue would be as gentle as she looked.

This woman is probably a rose with thorns.

After Longyue left, Lu Xi pushed Arsenal into the house.

"Did she pick flowers for you?" Her eyes fell on the wild chrysanthemums in his hand. The combination of several colors was beautiful.

"Yeah." he replied.

"Where did you pick it?" Lu Xi didn't know where in the Lu family's family such beautiful wild chrysanthemums could grow.

"On the southern hillside..."

In fact, the Lu family occupied several hilltops, but Lu Xi had always been wandering around nearby and had not been to many places.

"Want to put it in a vase?"

Arsenal was silent, then shook his head.

Lu Xi noticed the struggle in his eyes. She actually knew what he was struggling with. Even though he knew that Long Yue was not his mother, even though he knew that his mother was dead, he missed his loved ones so much that even though he knew that it was not his mother, he still wanted to take another look.

It wasn't his fault, he was just a kid.

"It still looks better when inserted."

Lu Xi reached out and took the wild chrysanthemums from his hand, and put them in the celadon vase on the table. The faint fragrance of the flowers wafted into her nose.

Arsenal looked up at her, raised his lips and said nothing.

Early the next morning, Longyue came again.

No doubt she had taken Assent away again, but this time she wasn't taking him to play, for she had come with a class schedule.

Longyue teaches Arsenal several subjects individually, which means they spend several hours together every day.

Classes were basically held somewhere else, and Asent could only come back for meals and sleep, as if deliberately separating them.

After Asent left, Lu Xi opened the long-lost control panel in her mind. In fact, she seldom looked at the control panel, because before completing the task, the system would not calculate the score. Only after achieving the achievement of "becoming the head of the family" would she be scored based on her labor force.

The so-called "labor force" is not how much effort she puts in, but how much driving force her efforts have in the mission goal of becoming the head of the family. The greater the role, the higher the score.

So she doesn't have to be a "housekeeper" to complete the mission, but she feels that being a housekeeper is the easiest way to get in touch with the mermaid, so she strives for this position. In fact, she has been a mysterious person in several previous missions. Even if she is a mysterious person who does not reveal her identity, she can still be evaluated as long as her contribution value meets the requirements.

Lu Xi took the opportunity to look through Long Yue's information. Long Yue's information was not confidential, so it was written in great detail, including when she was born, which schools she attended, how she went through layers of selection, and how she was finally chosen by Lu Muru. All were written clearly. Of course, her photo was also attached - she looked completely different from now.

She was about to continue watching when her cell phone rang.

Lu Xi took out his cell phone, but there was no record of this number.

Before the ringing ended, she pressed the answer button. A faint voice came from the phone, which seemed a little familiar. "It's me."

"Purple Rhino?" Lu Xi was a little surprised.

"Yeah." He responded, "Do you have time now?"

"What's the matter?" She didn't expect him to call her.

"Regarding the poachers, could you please come over here for a moment?"

"Poacher?" Her face turned serious.

This was Lu Xi's first time in the Yuan family's prison where criminals were held. A cold air emanated from the gloomy prison below, causing Lu Xi's wounds, which had not flared up for several days, to begin to ache again. Even though the walls were well soundproofed, he could still hear all kinds of shrill screams.

Compared to the dark and damp cells I had seen before, the walls here were all white, flawless and very smooth. The bright lights shone down from above, making people's faces look pale.

Under the guidance of the guide, we arrived at the cell where Zixi was.

"Do you still recognize this person?"

Lu Xi looked at the man who was nailed to the wall and covered in blood. The injuries that had been tormenting her for some time were all caused by him.

The man was covered in wounds and was no longer as arrogant as he was in the warehouse. The bones of his hands and feet were pierced by nails, and a large amount of blood was flowing down his clothes. Because of the long time, it had dried into black lumps under his feet. The wounds had become festered and festered without treatment.

"I recognize her." Her shoulder still ached slightly.

"I thought he was a small boss, but it's a pity." Zixi looked at the embarrassed man, "He was just a bulletproof guard."

Lu Xi frowned.

"Huh...Huh...I remember you, woman."

The disheveled man, who could only open one eye, spoke, his hoarse and unpleasant voice sounding like a broken bellows.

A dull laugh rolled out of his throat, "Are you feeling quite cocky right now, you bunch of damn ants..."

But before he could finish, a dagger suddenly flew out from his cheek and stabbed into the wall next to his cheek.

Zixi said coldly: "I didn't ask you to speak."

The man's expression instantly grew more ferocious, his hands and feet bleeding even more as he struggled. "You lowly humans, don't let me get away. I'm going to tear you into pieces and eat you."

"You won't have that chance."

Zixi raised his hand and stabbed another dagger into his arm. He screamed miserably and swore even more vicious words.

"Our boss will send you to hell. He will definitely avenge me. You and this woman, you will both die."

"Before that..." Lu Xi walked towards the miserable-looking man and said coldly, "You will be the first to die, you rat in the stinking ditch."

Zixi was surprised, she spoke quite harshly.

"Who are you calling a rat? Who are you calling a rat?" His eyes were bloodshot as he began to struggle. "This world is a world where the strong prey on the weak. Those so-called fellow tribesmen, living in these little corners abandoned by humans, have long since lost their true nature. Even without us, they would be destroyed sooner or later."

"It's better to die in our hands than to destroy yourself." The man's face was full of madness. He was a living madman.

"Wrong logic." Lu Xi sneered coldly, "You said so much, but it's all for profit, using other people's lives to exchange for money."

Behind every crazy organization, there must be a set of crazy brainwashing ideas, just like the "pyramid scheme organization" that Lu Xi had seen in a certain world. They will use a set of perverse theories to deceive themselves and others.

It's no use trying to reason with them.

He gritted his teeth, "How good are you? You appear to be a group of gentlemen, but in the final analysis, you, the Lu family, are also accomplices. How do you think we hunters negotiate with humans?"

Lu Xi looked at him, her eyes slowly narrowing.

"By the way, let me tell you one more thing." He seemed to remember something and smiled, "You know, you won't live long."
