4. Failure on Night 4

4. Night 4 Failure

Lu Xi was very angry, but she didn't delay for half a minute and immediately called for help. His wound needed to be treated immediately.

She quickly bandaged the little mermaid, but probably because of excessive blood loss, he fainted halfway through the bandage.

Lu Xi sat on the edge of the bed, looking at the little mermaid who had become much thinner. He had been in a very bad mental state during this period and had not eaten much. His already fragile nerves were finally broken.

"Ms. Lu Xi, do you need to notify the repatriation department?"

The maids all knew that the little mermaid had failed to awaken her talent twice. All the maids here were from the Lu family and they were very familiar with the repatriation procedures for the cubs. Moreover, this little mermaid always had problems and was not suitable to be kept for training.

"Repatriate, send him somewhere."

The maid was speechless for a moment. Other cubs could return to their own tribe if they failed to awaken, but this cub was homeless.

"Yes...you can send her to a cub welfare home."

"No child would want to go to that kind of place."

"But we have our responsibilities." Not all places are orphanages. This is a place to train heirs, and their energy should not be wasted on useless cubs.

"Give me a little more time." Lu Xi rubbed his forehead.

As the cub's housekeeper, she will be monitored by her superiors to a certain extent, and it is impossible for her to give the little mermaid too many privileges.

If he really can't wake up, he will definitely be sent away.

Lu Xi felt a little headache for a moment. She had thought that the task would not be easy to complete, but she didn't expect to get stuck at the first step.

This was much worse than she had anticipated.

"Let's not talk about this matter anymore."

Not long after, Lu Xi closed the door and went out. After she and the maid left, the sleeping mermaid opened her eyes instantly.

His silver-blue eyes looked blankly upwards, he bit his bright red lower lip tightly, and his eye sockets gradually turned red.

When Lu Xi came in again, the little mermaid had already woken up.

He lay silently on the bed, staring blankly at the bed curtains above his head. Lu Xi walked to his bedside without turning to look at her.

He was like a rag doll, and no matter how Lu Xi applied disinfectant and bandaged him, he didn't say a word of resistance like before.

Now he seems to have lost his soul.

"Are you hungry?" Lu Xi asked.

Arsenal did not answer. He felt that she was about to send him away, so why was she still worrying about whether he was hungry?

Lu Xi still asked someone to bring it to him to eat.

A plate of sashimi that could replenish his energy. His hands were badly injured and wrapped in gauze. She picked up a piece and fed it to him.

"Open your mouth."

He didn't eat and turned his head away.

Only after doing this action did he seem a little more energetic. She didn't know if it was Lu Xi's illusion, but she felt like he was sulking.

"Why not eat it?"

"What does it matter whether I eat or not?"

"You need to recover your strength."

"I'm so useless anyway. I can't even awaken. What's the point of recovering my strength? I'm still a useless person." His emotions seemed to have found an outlet, and he blurted out angrily, "Don't you think so too, Miss Lu Xi? I'm completely useless now."

"Who allowed you to say that?"

Arsente opened his mouth in shock. He rarely saw Lu Xi angry. Even when he stretched out his claws to attack her, she just responded with a faint expression, as if nothing could anger her.

At least, he rarely saw her angry, but now, she grabbed his shoulders and said, "Remember, you are the most important."

To Lu Xi, Asent is the most important mission target in the world. "I don't allow you to say that about yourself."

Arsenal looked at her absentmindedly, a feeling he had never felt before welling up in his heart, a strange, sour, and uncomfortable feeling.

"Open your mouth," she sighed.

This time Assente opened his mouth and his eyes quickly turned red. No one knew how upset he felt, as if the sky was falling.

"This too shall pass," she said.

Arsente wondered, will everything really pass...

Will he always be a waste?

After feeding him the sashimi, Lu Xi did not leave immediately. Instead, she sat by the bed and hummed a song to coax him to sleep.

Compared with the mermaid's singing, human singing can be said to be extremely unpleasant, but her voice seems to have some kind of magic. Asent slowly fell asleep. In his dream, he returned to the sea where he had lived for a long time, and returned to his tribe. They lived the beautiful life they once lived.

All the tragedies never happened.

In the next week, Lu Xi never mentioned the awakening of talent again, and the little mermaid's injuries were completely healed.

That day, Lu Xi planned to take him out.

"Going out...where to go." Arsenal looked at her warily.

"Take you out for a walk."

Arsenal was silent. He had not forgotten the conversation he heard that day. They were going to send him away, even though she said those words later.

But she must have just been trying to comfort him.

"I'm not going." He said coldly.

"Going out for a walk can change your mood."

"The demon cubs will be regarded as monsters by humans."

"Don't worry, I will use illusion to help you cover it up." The cub's power is limited and it cannot hide the characteristics of its own race.

She had already thought of a solution for this.

"No, I don't want to go out." He resisted.

Lu Xi didn't know where his resistance came from. She had actually taken several other cubs out before, and they were all very excited. They played until the end and were reluctant to come back. His reaction was a bit extreme.

The little mermaid’s refusal was ineffective. Lu Xi had a hundred ways to force him out. In the end, he was forced into the car.

She used illusion to change Asent's hair and eye color into human black, and wrapped her fish tail tightly with a blanket.

Assente was restrained by Lu Xi's spiritual power. He couldn't exert any strength at all and could only stare blankly at the scenery outside the window.

Is he leaving here...

Lu Xi didn't know what he was thinking, so she asked the driver to drive to the big shopping mall she had planned to go to. After the car stopped, she took out the wheelchair from the trunk and carried the mermaid onto it.

Assente looked blankly at the crowded entrance of the shopping mall, and scanned the shops, trying to find the welfare home.

How could there be an orphanage in a place like this?

Lu Xi pushed him in and took him to shop from the first floor, which basically sold jewelry. She walked around casually and then went to the second floor, where there was a large supermarket.

"Is there anything you want to buy?" Lu Xi asked.

Assente stared at the crowd around him. It was not until this moment that he was sure that she really brought him out for shopping, but he was not sure whether she brought him out because she was about to send him away.

"No." He said in a muffled voice.

Lu Xi looked at the depressed little mermaid. Coming out to see the outside world didn't seem to make him happy.

But it doesn’t matter, it’s just the beginning.

After walking around the supermarket, Lu Xi took him to a boutique. The things in the boutique were much more interesting than those in the supermarket. There were many creative little gifts and some prank toys.

It was Asent's first time in the human world and he had never been out shopping before, so he couldn't help but stare at the little gadgets in the store.

"Boss, how much is this?"

Assente heard Lu Xi's shout, looked up, and saw her holding something in her hand and asking the boss for the price.

Not long after, she came back.

She threw what she was holding to him, "Here."

Arsenal looked at the stuffed toy that fell on him. It was a cute mermaid, but the mermaid was chubby.

Probably because it’s a pillow style.

He stared blankly at the mermaid in his hands, his lips slightly parted, but he said nothing, and quietly held the mermaid in his arms.

Lu Xi pushed the wheelchair forward. The next floor up was the gaming area. Game music was mixed with noisy voices. This floor was the most crowded, and many parents brought their children here.

Lu Xi didn't like playing games, and she saw that Arsenal had no interest in it either, so she just pushed him to look in front of someone else's computer and left. But when she came out, she saw the puppet machine at the door.

"Want to play?" This is something you can play.

"I already have it." He looked at the fat mermaid in his hand.

If this was for him...

Lu Xi asked, "Have you ever played a claw machine before?"

Arsenal shook his head.

Lu Xi pushed him to the claw machine, recharged some game coins, and taught the little mermaid how to operate the remote control lever.

"Try it." She gave him the pole.

Assente looked at the remote control of the claw machine, stared at the pile of dolls inside through the glass, and slowly put his hand on it.

The claw machine is difficult to operate and not easy. Asent tried several times but failed, just a little bit short each time.

"Miss Lu Xi..." He suddenly turned his head, but found that Lu Xi was no longer around. He didn't know when she walked to the front to make a phone call.

Arsente waited for a long time but she didn't come. He looked at the game coins beside him and put one in.

The coin fell and the claw machine started playing cheerful music again.

"Mom, what's the matter with you calling me?"

"Are you okay over there?"

"I'm fine." Her tone was calm and cold.

"Is your work going well?"

"Um."

"This is your chance, you must seize it."

"Yeah, I know."

Then, both of them were silent for a long time.

"Are you...still blaming mom?" the woman on the other end sounded somewhat lost. "I can't help it. I've been so exhausted these years. After all, you are a descendant of the Lu family. I can't let you be homeless forever."

"Is this place also called home?"

"Xixi..."

"I'm busy. I'm hanging up. Take care of yourself."

Lu Xi hung up the phone, but she didn't put it away immediately. She stared at the black screen for several minutes before taking a deep breath and looking up. The emotions in her body just now affected her.

But then she discovered that the mermaid had disappeared.
