67. Retirement on Night 67

67. Night 67 Retirement

Lu Xi got up the next day and went out early without telling anyone. She went to a gift shop.

"Miss, do you need any help?"

As the first customer of the store today, Lu Xi attracted the attention of the store clerks as soon as she came in. The first customer was a very beautiful woman. Even though she was just quietly choosing a gift, people couldn't help but cast their eyes on her.

However, she seemed to be in trouble. She chose for a long time but couldn't find one that suited her, so she walked over to ask.

"No, I want to see for myself."

"Okay, you can come to me if you need anything."

Lu Xi nodded, looking up at the dazzling array of gifts, some exquisite, some bizarre. She'd wanted to choose a gift for the mermaid before she left, but she had no idea what to give. After a long struggle, she decided against it.

She is about to leave, and giving her gifts will only add to her sadness.

When Lu Xi returned, the villa was still very quiet, as if it was the same as before she went out in the morning. There was no sign of the mermaid. The servant told Lu Xi that the mermaid had suddenly received a job and left. She nodded to show that she understood.

I carried the bag upstairs and walked into the mermaid's room. The quilt had been neatly folded and the bed was no longer warm.

"Ring-ring——" Lu Xi's cell phone suddenly rang.

"Hello." She picked up the phone.

The other end seemed to be in the car, and the car horn was faintly heard, "Ms. Lu Xi, are you back to the villa?"

"Well, Arsente, where are you?"

"I have something to do. I'll be back in the evening."

"Is it urgent?" Lu Xi paused for a moment, as if muttering to himself, "Does it have to be completed today?"

"Hmm?" The car next to him honked, but he didn't hear it clearly. He waited for a long time before Lu Xi said anything else. "Ms. Lu Xi?"

Lu Xi moved her lips, wanting to ask if he could stop being busy and come back to accompany her, but in the end she just said "It's okay".

“…Be safe on the road and take care of yourself.”

"Well, I'll go back tonight." The mermaid said. He had only been out for half a day, and Lu Xi's instructions seemed as if he was going on a long journey, but he didn't hate her worrying about him.

Lu Xi hung up the phone and stared at it for a long time. She could actually ask him to come back. She wanted to tell him not to go, and to do anything tomorrow. She was about to leave, and asked him if he could come back and accompany her for the rest of the time.

But she didn't say it.

"Host." The system's voice sounded in my mind.

"Hmm? What's up?"

"Host, I just received a message from above. The system error has been repaired ahead of schedule and the program will be restarted soon. After the restart is successful, you can go home."

Lu Xi frowned, "Isn't it three days?"

"It will be within three days. It is possible to complete it ahead of time." The system said. It did not tell Lu Xi that it had sent a message to urge the superiors, but it may have nothing to do with this. In any case, leaving must be a matter of two days.

Go home, I didn’t expect the time of separation would come so soon.

"Can we go tonight?"

"No, time is running out."

Lu Xi was silent for a moment, then took out a small square box from the bag. After opening it, there was a necklace inside. The necklace was oval in shape and had a plain appearance.

If there was anything special about it, it was that there was a photo behind the lid that could be opened. Lu Xi had chosen a photo of her holding a mermaid as a child. This photo was taken from her social media account and set to private so that no one else could see it.

The little mermaid nestled in her arms and looked up at her quietly. Lu Xi lowered her eyes slightly with a faint smile on her face.

I didn't want to leave a gift originally, after all, I had selfish motives. On the one hand, I hoped that he wouldn't be sad because of her leaving, and on the other hand, I hoped that he wouldn't forget her so quickly.

Very contradictory, but helpless.

Placing the necklace on the pillow, she gently stroked the pillow with her hand, recalling every detail of these years.

After she left, she would never come back. She would never be able to accompany him again and watch him grow old. She hoped that he would find someone he loved more and spend his long life with.

"Host, the program is restarting..."

On a quiet afternoon, in the huge villa room, Lu Xi lay on the head of the mermaid's bed with a faint smile on her lips. Anyone who saw her would guess that she was having a sweet dream.

But her breathing stopped quietly.

The mermaid, who was flipping through the documents submitted by the employees, paused with his slender fingers and looked out the window.

"President, what's wrong?"

He didn't say anything. A closer look revealed a pale complexion, as if he wasn't feeling well. In fact, he'd just had a heartache, perhaps because he hadn't gotten enough rest in the past few days. His eyes fell on the clock. It was already noon. When the employee nervously asked if he needed to see a doctor, he shook his head.

"No, just bring those documents over."

Even though he was not feeling well, he did not want to stop because he wanted to finish quickly and go back to accompany Miss Lu Xi.

In a snow-white room, a woman was lying on a metal bed. She was wearing an eye mask with complicated chip patterns on her eyes. Next to her was a machine that displayed various data. The data scrolled up rapidly, and finally stopped with a stop symbol.

The woman who seemed to be asleep on the bed moved her fingertips, raised her fair hands, and took off the blindfold.

"Huh." Lu Xi sighed deeply.

She sat on the bed for a long time before rolling over. She swiped her wrist across the sensor next to the door, and the automatic door opened. Outside was a long metal passage, with doors every few steps. She knew that behind each door was a person, lying like she had just been, entering a certain world to influence certain people, change their fate, and guide the direction of the world.

Lu Xi walked to the front of the aisle, placed the watch on his wrist under the sensor to register, and prepared to leave.

"Please wait, Miss Lu."

A woman in a suit and skirt walked over with a smile on her face. "Miss Lu, please stay."

"What's going on?"

The woman who came over was called Meng Xia. She was the clergyman in charge of the front desk of the Quick Wear Department in Area B and an old acquaintance.

"Did you encounter a psychiatric patient during your mission? I have a form for you to fill out."

Lu Xi took the form she handed over. Looking at the several pages of forms gave her a headache. "I'm very tired now. Can I fill it out later?" Fatigue was written on her face.

"Of course, just give it to me before the end of get off work tomorrow. I need both the electronic and handwritten version. I'll send the electronic version to your email."

Lu Xi nodded and went to the parking lot to drive.

I just threw the form on the passenger seat. Encountering a patient requiring psychiatric treatment is considered a special case, but the company will compensate you if you complete it well. It’s no big deal to just fill out the form.

Lu Xi was still driving when his cell phone rang.

"Hey, Lu Xi, are you out of the warehouse?"

"Well, I just came out. How did you know?"

"Meng Xia told me."

Lu Xi and Mu Nong are good friends. Those who are familiar with them know that when Lu Xi went on a mission, Mu Nong asked the receptionist to notify her when Lu Xi came out.

"How about going for a drink?"

"I'm very tired now. Let's do it tomorrow."

"Okay then..." she said regretfully.

Lu Xi drove back to the community. This house on the 60th floor was bought by Lu Xi. The houses in this community are only available to clergymen, and ordinary people are not eligible to buy a house.

That's right, Lu Xi's world is also divided into ordinary people and clergy. Most people are just ordinary people, and only a few chosen by God have special abilities and are hired as clergy to complete tasks in various worlds.

Lu Xi lay tiredly in the bathtub, the ceiling above her head was blurred by water vapor, and she had a trance-like feeling that she was still in that world, but the reality was that she had already returned.

There's no going back...

The surging longing in her chest came faster than Lu Xi had expected. She soaked her head in water and tried to numb herself by suffocating her, but it didn't work.

The flow of time in this world is slower than those small worlds. Maybe she just walked out of the fast-travel department and drove home, but in his world, several years have passed.

"Asent..."

Lu Xi slept until noon the next day. When she woke up, the first thing she did was fill out the spreadsheet and the handwritten document, signed them, and handed them in when it was almost time to get off work. On the way, she called Mu Nong and arranged a meeting place for that night.

"Let's go to the newly opened bar. I'm still busy. I'll contact you in the evening." Mu Nong made her look like Lu Xi, who had just been released from the warehouse and had three days of vacation. At this time, she was working on the materials until she felt dizzy.

"Okay." Lu Xi hung up the phone.

In addition to the form, she also had another pre-retirement report, which she planned to submit as well.

At night, in a corner of the brightly lit bar hall, Mu Nong was shaking his wine glass and cheering for the singer on the stage.

"Well sung, one more song..."

Lu Xi was not as active as her. She just lowered her head and took a sip of the cocktail. The sweet and spicy taste spread in her mouth, soaking between her lips and teeth, making her gradually relax.

Mu Nong shouted for a while, and as the singer left, the atmosphere gradually calmed down. She turned around and spoke to Lu Xi, "Your mission this time is quite long. It's been two weeks and you still haven't come out. I thought you would stay in there for a month."

"Oh right." Mu Nong seemed to have thought of something and approached her slyly, "I want to tell you something. Don't be surprised."

Lu Xi raised his eyebrows.

"Although they kept it a secret, I heard that the patient you met was Zhong Ting's immediate superior. How was it? Did you two create any sparks?" Mu Nong looked envious and wished she could be in his place.

"No, what are you thinking about."

"No? I don't believe it."

"You think too much. I'm just helping him." She actually had this guess. After all, Zhong Ting's boss couldn't walk, and so did the cub. However, Lu Xi didn't have too many concerns and just treated her work as work.

"Isn't it enough to help him?" Mu Nong seemed to be about to faint. "He might even marry me..."

Lu Xi: “…”

Mu Nong got drunk as he drank, and he didn't tease Lu Xi anymore. Instead, he held the wine glass and looked sad.

"Lu Xi, are you really leaving?" Mu Nong leaned on the table, "You submitted your retirement report today, right?"

"You know?"

"Of course, I know everything..." She grabbed Lu Xi's hand and begged, "Please don't leave."

Lu Xi used silence instead of answering.

Mu Nong snorted, "You heartless person, go away now. I don't want to see you anymore. Don't look for me in the future."

As she spoke, she began to sob.

"You're drunk, Mu Nong."

"I'm not drunk..." She shook Lu Xi off.
