17. Night 17 Monster
Wang Ji has been a delivery boy for three years. During these three years, he has run all over the streets and alleys of Ancheng and has been to every corner. It is common for him to receive strange orders, and he has even been asked to help buy sanitary napkins.
But today's order was too weird. The customer only ordered two cups of bubble milk tea, but he actually asked him to help buy a wheelchair.
Most people probably don’t know where to buy it, but fortunately he had an old classmate who opened a medical equipment store in Ancheng, which was not far from where the customer lived, so he took a detour there and bought one.
His old classmate was even concerned about whether someone in his family was sick, which made him explain for a long time and almost delayed the delivery of the order.
"No, no, the guest asked me to bring it."
"Your customer broke his leg and still ordered milk tea?"
Wang Ji: “…” So this is the point?
No, you don’t have to break your leg to use a wheelchair.
Finally, the wheelchair and milk tea were delivered to the door. A beautiful woman opened the door. Her face made him a little dazed.
"Thank you, this is for you."
Lu Xi only took a cup of milk tea and a wheelchair.
Lu Xi couldn't possibly leave the little mermaid here alone, but it was inconvenient to take him there without a wheelchair, so she asked the delivery guy to bring him some. Before placing the order, she wondered if it was too much of an embarrassment.
Fortunately, the other party really bought it for her.
When Yuan Mu saw the little mermaid brought by Lu Xi, his face looked a little unhappy. As an adult, he stared at the child.
"Why is he here?"
"I brought it."
"I'm not blind." Yuan Mu laughed angrily, "What I mean is, haven't you been suspended from work? Why are you still taking care of the baby?"
"..." Lu Xi was silent, "It's a long story."
The Western food at Swan Lake Restaurant was indeed delicious. Lu Xi ordered a serving of foie gras and a steak for the mermaid, and he ate them all.
"More?"
"Why don't you ask me?" Yuan Mu protested.
"Are you a child?"
"Yes, I'm going to be a kid for once today."
Lu Xi hasn't seen such a shameless person for a long time.
Assente looked up at them bickering, silently pursed his lips, and tightened his grip on the knife and fork, his fingertips turning a little white.
"What's wrong?" Lu Xi noticed that something was wrong with him.
"My stomach hurts." He leaned against her.
The little mermaid's face was slightly pale, she bit her lower lip lightly, her thick and curly eyelashes were half closed, and she looked extremely fragile.
Lu Xi frowned and reached out to rub his stomach.
"Let me take a look." Yuan Mu stood up. After all, he was a doctor and had a lot of experience in dealing with such emergencies.
"No." He held Lu Xi tightly and didn't let go.
"Assente." Lu Xi's face turned serious. When it came to the cub's physical condition, her previous indulgence disappeared.
But the little mermaid still refused to let go.
They were deadlocked for a while, and finally Lu Xi gave in. "Forget it, I'll take him back first."
"Maybe it ate too much, it shouldn't be a big deal." Lu Xi has recently shown extreme patience towards this little mermaid.
Probably because the doctor told him not to get irritated.
"Really don't need me to take a look?" Yuan Mu frowned.
Lu Xi looked down at the little mermaid. He gently tugged at the corner of her clothes, and his meaning was very clear: he wanted her to take him home.
"No, I'll contact you if there's anything."
"Well... okay." Yuan Mu also knew the seriousness of the matter. Since it concerned the cubs, Lu Xi definitely didn't want to stay any longer.
On the way back, Lu Xi opened the car window to let in some fresh air, hoping that this would make him feel better. The wind was a bit strong at night, so she didn't dare open the window too wide, leaving a small gap to let the night wind flow in.
Lu Xi supported her chin and looked out the window, so she didn't see that the little mermaid next to her was staring at her messy hair in a daze.
The demon race has a very sensitive sense of smell and can detect many odors that humans cannot, such as the unique scent on Lu Xi. Although he is obviously a human, he smells very special and fragrant.
Suddenly, the driver braked.
"Uncle Tong, what's wrong?" After Lu Man threw the little mermaid to her care, he arranged for the villa's driver to come over for her to use.
"There's a spiritual barrier." He said seriously.
"Spiritual Barrier" is an ability that only the demon race and some members of the Lu clan can display. It is used to isolate humans from surveillance operations, making it impossible for humans to detect them and making it easier for them to make big moves. And this deep purple spiritual barrier, if she remembered correctly...
Lu Xi opened the car door and got out. The night wind blew the corners of her light clothes. She became alert and slowly walked into the spiritual barrier. The translucent barrier was like water, swallowing her delicate body.
It was not until she entered the range of the barrier that she instantly smelled a cold and disgusting breath, a very strong smell of blood.
There was no sound here, no one in sight, and the air was eerily quiet, as if the world was submerged in water.
Suddenly, she stared in one direction.
The slender hand slowly raised up, and as the pure white fluorescent dots rose, a thin pure gold chain wrapped around her arm, and the bell at the end of the chain made a crisp sound.
Lu Xi grabbed the chain and threw it into the air. A heart-wrenching wail came from that direction, and a figure fell to the ground.
She looked intently and saw an ugly monster falling to the ground. In addition to the wounds caused by Lu Xi, the monster had other wounds on its body, and foul-smelling blood kept dripping onto the ground.
Lu Xi had rarely seen such ugly monsters, but she was just surprised and not scared. Seeing that the monster was about to escape, she swung the chain to wrap it around it to prevent it from leaving, and then threw it to the ground again.
"Aho, aho—" the monster howled.
She skillfully swung the chain in her hand, and the chain became longer and wrapped around a nearby telephone pole. She then jumped onto it with a light tap of her toes.
Arsenal had never seen Lu Xi fight. Her graceful figure was as light as dancing. She dodged the monsters' attacks time and time again. Compared to the monsters' embarrassment, she was so at ease.
"Be careful." This was Lu Xi's cry.
Assente came to his senses and saw the monster coming towards him.
"Damn it." Lu Xi cursed inwardly and rushed over.
After Lu Xi rescued the little mermaid safely, he turned around and found that the monster had escaped. It turned out that it was trying to make a feint to the east and attack in the west.
Just then, she felt another presence, and a purple figure appeared not far from their car.
He had sharp black horns, a retro dark purple robe, and held a long sword surrounded by lightning. His aura was mysterious and unpredictable, and a mask half covered his face.
That was Yuanshi’s executioner—Zixi.
Zixi glanced at the messy surroundings. Without waiting for the other party to speak, Lu Xi pointed in a direction and said, "It went that way."
That was the direction where the monster's aura disappeared.
"Did it see this little mermaid?" Zixi looked at Asent.
"What?" Lu Xi didn't hear clearly.
He turned away, turned his back to them and said, "Leave the rest to me. Get out of here quickly."
The "Executioners" are specialized in executing demons who have committed serious crimes. This group of people is the most powerful among the demons. Although they don't know what mistake the demon just now made, they are much more professional than her in dealing with it.
It was a little chilly in Ancheng in the autumn. In a blink of an eye, Arsenal had stayed at Lu Xi's place for two weeks. Lu Xi looked at the hustle and bustle of traffic downstairs. It would be winter soon. Just when she thought that the little mermaid might spend the New Year with her, Lu Man called.
"Next week, you will return the little mermaid."
"Okay." Lu Xi didn't say anything to keep him.
But she felt that Lu Muru really treated her as a gun, throwing her away when she wanted to, and using her with just one word when she wanted to.
Lu Man on the other end was silent for a long time. If Lu Xi had been so obedient at the beginning, he would not have ended up like this.
Lu Man: "I'll contact you later."
After hanging up the phone, Lu Xi stared at the phone in a daze. She didn't say a word of begging for mercy. Was it because she gave up? Of course not.
She knew that if she continued to disobey orders, she might not even be able to see the little mermaid again, so she was waiting for an opportunity. An opportunity for her to go back. She didn't believe that woman would keep her here forever, but it might be a little tricky.
Lu Xi looked at the mermaid on the sofa. He was learning to fold paper cranes from the people on TV. He was a quick learner and quickly folded one. Gradually, he folded several and strung them together. Lu Xi walked over and the mermaid handed her the string of paper cranes.
"Give me?"
"Hmm..." He looked a little embarrassed.
"Thank you." She put her hand on his head and rubbed it. Without the identity of housekeeper, she was more indulgent towards Asent.
Suddenly, Lu Xi's phone vibrated. She picked it up and saw that it was a text message from an unfamiliar number: Will you come to the class reunion the day after tomorrow?
This was a high school classmate I met by the river when I was looking for the mermaid. I called her several times but she didn't answer.
This time, I changed to sending text messages.
Lu Xi replied after a few minutes: I have to work overtime.
She had little interaction with them when she was in school. As a member of the Lu family, it was best for her to have no interaction with these people, because the things she was exposed to were not something they could understand.
Extra relationships will only get in the way.
My phone vibrated and I received another message: Are you busy now?
Lu Xi: Well, I’m at work, stop texting.
Lu Xi put away his phone and planned to take Arsenal to the newly opened ramen restaurant outside to try it, but he was stopped by someone just as he walked out of the community.
"Lu Xi, is it really you?"
Lu Xi turned around and saw the person who had just texted her.
"Aren't you at work..." He smiled.
Seeing this situation, if Du Chusheng didn't know that Lu Xi was looking for an excuse to ignore him, he would really be a fool.
Lu Xi looked at him with a somewhat cold expression on her face.
Du Chusheng was very familiar with this expression, or rather, in his memory of that year, this class beauty seemed to have never smiled, but she was so eye-catching, and her grades were also the best in the school.
"This kid is..." He noticed Ascent.
"My brother."
"So you have such a little brother. He's so cute." Lu Xi didn't respond. She was waiting for him to leave, but Du Chusheng was obviously thicker-skinned than she thought. He looked at Lu Xi's fair and beautiful face under the street light and asked, "Can we have dinner together?"
