Chapter 50 (Catching Bugs)
Shen Jian kept his hand on Shen Xiuzhu's head without moving, and stared silently at the man whose expression he couldn't see for a few minutes with his eyes downcast.
In the micro headset he was wearing, the other Shen Xiuzhu had already fiercely requested Shen Jian to kill him now, who was now at the highest level of danger.
Shen Jian was silent for a while, his hand moved down along Shen Xiuzhu's soft hair, passed over the ear veins and went to the neck, and intentionally or unintentionally wrapped around half of it from behind.
As long as he exerts a little force, this most vulnerable part of the human body will break like a soft reed.
"Since you know, then you understand that you shouldn't say it." Shen Jian said in a low voice, his eyes falling into the silent pupils of his subordinates.
Chen Jian carefully concealed his identity not for acting, in fact, he admitted this identity, which was the best choice for the plan, but he had to hide it - there cannot be two Chen Jians in the same world.
When he saw that the leader was able to come back to life due to an unknown force, Shen Jian became even more certain of this: he must not be exposed.
He couldn't gamble on whether another force whose existence he didn't know for sure and whose purpose he didn't know really existed in the world.
This was something he could think of, and Shen Xiuzhu of the origin world could also think of. Shen Jian didn't believe that Shen Xiuzhu of this world couldn't think of it.
Shen Xiuzhu shook his head, and obediently let Shen Jian's fingers slowly tighten a little, and even pulled his collar down a little to facilitate Shen Jian's movements.
"Actually, you don't have to worry. It's okay. Of course, you don't have to believe me now." Chen Xiuzhu paused for a while and suddenly changed the subject: "...I'm not the backup left by the master. The master doesn't know these things."
Shen Jian blinked, "Shen An thought that I was the backup for him to stay. When I saw you, I thought it was you, but now you tell me, you are not?"
Shen Jian glanced at the laboratory that obviously required a huge amount of funding and resources to support it, and did not comment.
Without the management and long-term support of a team, how could such a laboratory exist?
"It's true." Chen Xiuzhu smiled bitterly, "Sir, you didn't even tell Chen An, how could you possibly tell me?"
"I discovered something wrong myself." Shen Xiuzhu's voice was very low, and Shen Jian could feel the vibration of his voice cavity and the warm touch of his body through his thin skin.
"I've been here for a few years, and I think I've probably guessed all of you and Mr.'s plans... You can just treat me as an NPC who gives you directions, right?"
[Sir, are you sure you want to listen?] Chen Xiuzhu was beginning to hesitate in his ear, […I mean, you know, even if I found a machine that can bombard black holes, I would not leave the Wuyan Tower.]
Shen Jian stared at the silent Shen Xiuzhu in front of him for a while, slowly withdrew his hand, calmly turned his back to him and returned to the chair, then turned around again.
"I think I need to listen to it, Qingzhu." Shen Jian murmured softly, "...In fact, I also feel that something is not right."
Shen Xiuzhu didn't get up. He just buttoned up his clothes again after Shen Jian let him go. Then he raised his wet eyes and looked at the boy. He didn't see the proud and reserved look of another world at all. "Are you talking to your Shen Xiuzhu, the other gentleman?"
"Yeah." Shen Jian admitted without hesitation.
"Ah, Chen Xiuzhu." The man kneeling on the ground seemed to have regained some of his sharpness, and raised the corner of his mouth with sarcasm, "Keep an eye on your leader - I mean..."
Shen Jian sighed, praying that the two people who had started quarreling in the air would end soon. His ears were about to burst into flames from the noise.
As if he had anticipated the verbal abuse and useless anger that would erupt from the other side, Shen Xiuzhu in this world raised his chin with a faint sadness and sneer, "Don't let him commit suicide, too."
The noisy and slightly irritating cursing in Chen Jian's ears suddenly stopped and disappeared.
However, Shen Jian slowly opened his eyes, a drop of cold sweat slid down his forehead, and his back stiffened involuntarily.
Damn it...! Let you pray, let you pray!
Now, a big pot falls from the sky!
Shen Jian, who was forcibly dragged into the battlefield, forced a smile, "Okay, let's talk about business, let's talk about business."
There was silence in the headset for a moment, and after a moment, a laugh that was very obvious and disrespectful to the superior was heard.
"Sir," Shen Xiuzhu smiled, and the sound coming from the loudspeaker transmitted by Solomon was still particularly cold, "Sir, what do you mean by 'you commit suicide too'?"
"Or have you ever thought of abandoning us again?" Shen Xiuzhu paused and continued to speak apologetically, "Sorry, sir, I forgot that you have already abandoned us twice."
Shen Jian's cold sweat was about to soak his back. He smiled dryly, "I promise you, Qingzhu, I have never thought of dying without permission."
"Oh." Shen Xiuzhu replied calmly, "Sorry, sir, I feel a little uncomfortable. Can you disconnect the communication for a while? Shen Pingyan will contact you later."
The young man, with beads of sweat on his face, glanced at Shen Xiuzhu, who was kneeling on the ground and smiling innocently, looking like Shen An. After thinking for a while, he agreed.
He was a little scared. If Shen Xiuzhu in this world really said something like "betrayal", the people on his side would commit suicide on the spot to prove their point.
He waited with lingering fear for two seconds until the current hissed, and then Shen Pingyan's voice with a faint smile reappeared: "Sir, greetings to you."
Shen Jian twitched his lips, “Thank you, I hope I will be fine after I go back.”
Shen Xiuzhu, who was kneeling on the ground, shrugged, “As long as you stay alive, it’s easy, isn’t it?”
The young man waved his hand weakly, “Chen Xiuzhu…what did you find?”
"You should have also discovered, I mean, more and more mysteries that you have discovered in this world."
After this little trick in which the two of them seemed to know everything about how to send Chen Xiuzhu from the neighboring source world away, Chen Xiuzhu seemed to really relax a little.
He thought for a while about how to organize his words. "Let's start with the most foolproof question... What do you want to know first?"
Shen Jian calmly nodded the headset.
Shen Pingyan gently said that he would wait until the master came back to settle the account, and now he would fulfill his most basic duties as a subordinate.
Shen Jian rubbed his fingers frustratedly and sighed, "Then let's start with the simplest one... Do you know the plan of the Middle Ages and the leader?"
He tacitly acknowledged that Shen Xiuzhu was aware of the relationship between the two, and the other party naturally continued the conversation.
He was slightly surprised, then put on a respectful and distant expression: "Oh, Mr. from another world, this is a question that should be put last, actually."
"The battle in this world is just an appetizer. The leader is just using the Middle Ages as a chess piece to be thrown away. In fact, the Middle Ages are vulnerable."
He seemed to want to put on a contemptuous expression, but seemed to be hesitant about something, showing a little sadness, and then returning to calm.
"Let's start from the very beginning." Shen Xiuzhu shook his head, "Can I get up, sir?"
Shen Jian glanced at Shen Xiuzhu’s knees, which were shaking slightly unconsciously, and said, “Yeah.”
"Rheumatism?" he whispered.
It's very humid underground, so joint injuries are inevitable.
"No, it's the cold." Shen Xiuzhu stood up stiffly, his bones creaking crisply, but his back was straight. "It's very cold underground, and the machine needs extreme cold."
“The very beginning… Well, have you thought of Shen An’s doubts now?” Shen Xiuzhu’s pupils lost focus for a moment, and then he asked in a low voice.
Shen Jian paused for a moment, and was very glad that Shen Xiuzhu had just left, and did not let Shen An answer the call.
"I figured it out." Shen Jian said, "Why did he have his name changed?"
"Perhaps it is to prevent you from thinking of something." Shen Xiuzhu explained with a smile, "Your amnesia may also be to prevent you from thinking of something, or to do something in advance."
Shen Jian moved the fingers next to his ears very lightly.
He was thinking about whether to turn off the headset now, but Shen Pingyan's silent and even breathing made him give up the idea.
"Association." Shen Jian repeated, "…Association of what?"
"Something to do with the Middle Ages."
Shen Xiuzhu's fingertips were trembling, perhaps because of the pain in his joints, or perhaps because of something else, but he still insisted on standing and looking straight into Shen Jian's eyes.
The two men were in a silent stalemate for a while. After a moment, the adult man looked away first and smiled as if surrendering. "Or maybe some people from the Middle Ages?"
Shen Jian suddenly stood up and walked around twice, then his eyes paused on the huge machine behind him, and finally moved to Shen Xiuzhu.
He felt the veins on his forehead throbbing, the feeling was no better than the first time he saw his leader breathing again, in fact his fingers were a little numb now.
He thought carefully again about Shen An's daily activities in Wuyan Tower, digging out every detail from his mind to make sure that Shen An was under his control every minute and every second.
Five minutes later, Shen Jian returned to his seat and sat down, looking as if he had forced himself to calm down, “Shen An’s original name was Shen An.”
Shen Xiuzhu nodded.
"The leader of the Middle Ages has an almost abnormal obsession with me, which is comparable to my group of incompetent subordinates in the tower." Shen Jian stated calmly.
Shen Xiuzhu nodded again.
Shen Jian closed his eyes and calmly concluded: “Shen An is Mo Yi?”
"Yes." Shen Xiuzhu admitted.
Time in the laboratory froze for two seconds.
Shen Jian's thoughts paused in a void without any ripples. A long mechanical sound vibrated in his ears. He wanted to figure out this relationship, but was stuck at an unknown intelligence node.
It's ridiculous - assuming Shen An is really Mo Yi, then why did Shen An still exist after he killed Mo Yi?
Who was Shen An at that time?
"If you had come to this conclusion at the stage when you had not yet deduced your and Mr.'s response plan, but had already guessed the 'world-destroying plan', you would have simply killed Shen An." Shen Xiuzhu said quietly.
"But Shen An can't die." Shen Xiuzhu finally moved his legs, which were twitching with dull pain, and walked to Shen Jian's side and knelt gently, so that he could look up at the boy who was sitting down.
He motioned Shen Jian to look at the machine behind him, “This is why I just revealed your identity, sir. It is very reasonable for two identical people to exist in this world.”
Shen Jian stared at the bulky machine in silence, the gilded exterior reflecting his calm, dark eyes.
Shen Xiuzhu didn't look at the machine, he looked at Shen Jian: "Yes. Maybe you have guessed it, this is a machine that can restart the world."
So the Chen An of the last world became Mo Yi, and the Chen An of this world became Chen An.
