Chapter 1 The Snake Killer

She doesn't eat mice, she doesn't eat birds. She doesn't eat any living creature... Her diet, from birth until now, has consisted of only one thing—tender grass.

You heard right, it's grass.

A snake gnawing on grass... Yin Huan even wondered if she had been reincarnated into the wrong body.

So bizarre, it hardly deserves to be called a snake.

It's one thing that she doesn't eat live animals. But even her physical structure seems unusual for snakes.

Her eyesight is exceptionally far. Unlike other snakes, whose eyesight is extremely poor and who can only sense their surroundings with their tongues, the most obvious example is the red snake that was run over by the car earlier. It couldn't see its environment clearly, and by the time it realized the danger, it was already dead.

Silver Ring not only has excellent eyesight, but she also has ears that can locate sounds.

...I misspoke, I have no ears.

But it's even stranger that it doesn't have ears!

She once touched her head with the snake's tail. Her head only had a mouth and eyes; she had no ears. According to her sworn brother, snakes cannot hear.

But she could hear sounds.

It's truly bizarre. So different, can she even be considered a snake?

To hide her difference, Silver Ring lived a very cautious life, never daring to expose her unusual features to other animals.

It wasn't until more than a hundred years ago, when she met her sworn brother, a benefactor born of a snake, that she finally escaped her lonely and confused life.

Silver Ring's sworn brother was an exceptionally powerful Burmese python. He was the object of her utmost worship in her hundreds of years of snake life.

This is a long story.

One autumn, Silver Ring, having nothing to do, decided to find a suitable cave for hibernation as her sleeping place. After wandering around Mount Fuding for a while, she finally found a spacious cave.

The cave was very dry, but there was a pool of water inside. The water was still slightly warm.

Silver Ring has always been a clean person, and her favorite thing to do is to run into the water to take a bath.

The pool of water in the cave seemed tailor-made for her. So, without a second thought, Silver Ring decided to hibernate there.

Fate is a strange thing.

Silver Ring never expected that the cave she had her eye on was already taken... This cave, which was extremely suitable for snakes to hibernate, had long been occupied by a creature a hundred times larger than herself.

Looking at the big guy who walked with a swagger and had bulging muscles, Yin Huan immediately cowered.

To avoid becoming someone's meal, she immediately chose to run away.

Unexpectedly, before the snake could even move, it was swept away by the tail of the big guy—the Burmese python.

At the same time, she heard the snake's first words.

"Little guy, how did you get in?"

Upon hearing the voice, Yin Huan was startled, thinking she was hallucinating.

She had heard the sound of the wind, the sound of the rain, the chirping of birds, and the hum of cicadas, but she had never heard a sound that carried a hint of coldness yet was one that she could understand.

Silver Ring was a little confused, and subconsciously extended its forked tongue in response with a few hissing sounds.

This response brought Silver Ring a series of pleasant surprises.

From then on, he developed a talent for languages and learned to speak.

Of course, her words are always just hissing. But she can organize those hissing sounds into sentences and communicate with the Burmese pythons that understand her.

Two snakes of vastly different sizes, after some interaction, began living together in that cave. Silver Ring, nestled in the body of the old snake—a Burmese python—grew from an ignorant little snake into a somewhat cunning old one.

As for the later matter of becoming sworn brothers... Yin Huan said that she did not understand what becoming sworn brothers meant.

This was decided by a Burmese python who, after returning from a trip down the mountain, suddenly became very excited and dragged her to worship the moon.

We've gone off on a tangent.

Anyway, from then on, Silver Ring's snake life gained an older brother who took care of her in every way.

Her trip down Fuding Mountain was prompted by a message from her sworn brother, who told her about a zoo in a large city not far from Fuding Mountain that offered exceptionally good facilities. It had food, drink, and even a huge pool where her sworn brother could happily tumble in the water – perfect for their retirement. He urged Yinhuan to go there immediately.

As for why her eldest brother, who had never left Fuding Mountain, suddenly went to a big city... Yin Huan said she didn't know either. Anyway, when she woke up, her eldest brother was gone.

She searched for many days but couldn't find her sworn brother.

She was almost starting to suspect that her sworn brother had been captured and made into soup by humans, when she discovered a little mouse in the cave. The little mouse told her that it was sent by her sworn brother to guide her.

Silver Ring didn't doubt the little mouse's words because she smelled her older brother's scent on the little mouse.

The eldest brother is always unfathomable and would never be harmed by a little mouse. That's why Silver Ring followed the little mouse down Fuding Mountain.
