Chapter 36 Betraying Brothers

Silver Ring's return brought silence to the beast territories. All the demons' gazes fell upon Silver Ring, their strangely gleaming pupils burning with intensity in the darkness. Their thoughts raced, each one different.

Among the many creatures present, the blue monkey, who was completely bewildered and knew nothing, was the only one who seemed normal.

With so many powerful demons gathered, it's already quite remarkable that an ordinary monkey could still stand outside the cage without escaping.

The blue monkey stared warily at the monster in the cage with its big eyes. It squeaked twice, then leaped up and darted through the gap between the two iron bars into the cage.

Tonight was a sleepless night for all the demons. Even with Huo Fei, the threat, lurking outside the cage, they couldn't find peace. Only after Huo Fei left did they snap out of their reverie.

As dawn broke, the demons lingered in the iron cage, exchanging glances for a long time before returning to their rooms.

——

Silver Ring swished its tail and happily climbed into Luo Mang's hut. Seeing the familiar figure coiled up in the center of the hut, its eyes lit up, and it rushed forward in a few swift movements.

Just as she rushed up to Luo Mang, her snake body suddenly paused, remembering what Huo Fei had said earlier.

Silver Ring flicked its tongue, swung its tail, and sluggishly crawled to the corner of the wall. Finding a comfortable spot, it rested its head on the wall, ready to relax. Blue Monkey came in, saw Luo Mang, and danced with joy, leaping towards Luo Mang.

"Squeak squeak squeak—"

"Hiss—Blue Monkey, come here, don't disturb your brother's cultivation." Silver Ring called out to the little monkey.

The eagle had said earlier that the eldest brother was in seclusion and should not be disturbed.

Although she didn't quite understand what seclusion was, she knew it must be related to cultivation.

Upon hearing Silver Ring's voice, the blue monkey, whether it understood or not, miraculously came to a sudden stop, its agile body spinning in place before coming to a halt in front of Luo Mang.

"Hiss hiss hiss—go play by yourself, but don't leave the cage. Those outside are big monsters. Don't tease them, or they'll eat you." Silver Ring instructed the blue monkey, not caring whether it could understand her or not.

After speaking, Silver Ring swept its tail, climbed to the window, rested its little head on the window, and prepared to bask in the moonlight and cultivate.

The eldest brother is the most powerful; he quietly cultivated himself into human form. Compared to him, she's practically useless. She's been cultivating for so many days and hasn't even sensed the essence of the sun and moon.

Her older brother is so awesome, she can't tarnish his reputation. Even if she's a good-for-nothing, she'll be the most diligent good-for-nothing.

Cultivation requires seizing every opportunity to cultivate...

——

As the night passed, a gentle morning breeze blew, and the sun rose above the horizon, illuminating the earth. At the Lohan Temple outside Penang, the soft chanting of monks emanated from the main hall.

After a long while, the chanting ended, and a group of simply dressed monks came out of the main hall to begin their day's work.

Although the Luohan Temple is very famous in Penang, it has a small number of monks. The entire temple has only about ten monks. The monks are self-sufficient and take care of all the miscellaneous affairs of the temple themselves.

Because the Buddhist practices at Luohan Temple differ from others, it has always been extremely selective in its admissions process. Those without an affinity for Buddhism are not accepted; those lacking a sense of righteousness are also rejected...

For various reasons, Luohan Temple has never prospered. Even in the 21st century, when Luohan Temple was very popular, the number of monks remained very small.

The monks here still practice the path of killing, which has been passed down from ancient times.

However, this is a time of peace, and murder is illegal. Achieving this level of spiritual cultivation is extremely difficult... Nowadays, many of the monks at Luohan Temple have changed professions, competing with the Taoist priests for business by exorcising demons and monsters...

Everyone left, leaving only a kind-faced old monk sitting quietly in the hall. After a moment, he opened his gently closed eyes, reverently bowed to the Buddha statue in the hall, then rose and began to skillfully light incense.

Smoke swirled, and the aroma of sandalwood filled the air. After the old monk finished lighting the incense, two men entered the main hall, one after the other.

The former was tall and strong, with well-defined features and exceptionally handsome. His thin, pursed lips gave him an extremely dignified look, and his sharp eyes made people afraid to look him in the eye. The latter had a handsome face, and the corners of his lips curled up, giving him a strangely roguish charm. He limped, and his clumsy legs ruined his dashing air.

The visitors were none other than Huo Fei and Bai Mao.

The two arrived at the main hall and devoutly bowed to the Buddha statue inside.

After the two men finished worshipping the Buddha statue, the old monk respectfully greeted them with a bow: "Do you two have something to ask me?"

Huo Fei and Bai Mao are of such high seniority that everyone in the temple now addresses them as "Grandmaster." Huo Fei, in particular, is the temple's protector; to put it bluntly, he deserves credit for the construction of Luohan Temple.

The first monk of Luohan Temple built the temple here, largely because he wanted to find a quiet place to cleanse Huo Fei of his demonic aura…

Huo Fei nodded to the old monk: "Abbot, do you know who created the grand formation over at the prison?"

Huo Fei did not participate in the construction of the Demon Prison. He took over the prison more than twenty years ago after the demons escaped. However, he was too late. When he arrived, the prison's formation was already complete. He only poured a drop of his heart's blood into the formation's core, allowing the formation to communicate with him and enabling him to check for any anomalies.

Old monk: "Why does Grandmaster ask this? Has something gone wrong with the formation?"

Huo Fei shook his head: "No, it's just..."
