In ancient times, Luohan Temple was actually just a dilapidated temple, with only a few monks passing down the lineage from generation to generation, and its incense offerings were never very prosperous.
Yet this dilapidated temple not only housed Huo Fei, a member of another race, but also several unconventional ascetics whom all the monks in the Buddhist world avoided.
They were ascetic monks, and at the same time, they cultivated the most challenging form of Buddhism to test one's Buddha-heart: the Buddha of Killing.
They stop evil by killing, and on the path to stopping evil, they do not stray from the right path and keep their original intentions intact.
The wrathful Vajra refers to the monks of Luohan Temple.
Perhaps it was because their path of practice differed from that of other monks in the world. Although the monks remained compassionate, they carried a somewhat frightening aura, which intimidated the people living at the foot of the mountain, who dared not come to the temple to offer incense. This directly led to the temple becoming more and more dilapidated.
Although Luohan Temple is not very popular, its tradition of practicing Buddhism through killing has not been broken, and even Huo Fei has inherited the monks' will.
The temple had always been dilapidated. Decades ago, it was even labeled one of the "Four Olds" and was destroyed by the Red Guards. However, after the reform and opening up, with the help of some dedicated individuals, the temple suddenly revived and has since flourished.
The unique path of practice at Luohan Temple led Huo Fei into the mundane world after the temple's rise to prominence, where he became an animal keeper.
In reality, however, he is an enforcer of the Special Security Bureau. He is also a demon slayer.
Of course, his identity as a demon slayer is a bit complicated, because he himself is a demon, a demon who inherited the practice of stopping evil by killing and cultivating his Buddha-nature.
These days, things are very different from ancient times. Back then, fighting evil and upholding justice was considered a chivalrous act, and both ordinary people and imperial power could tolerate such behavior.
But in modern society... well, if they dared to act like they did in ancient times, the monks might not even be rid of their evil deeds before they themselves fall into trouble.
The situation has changed, and killing for spiritual cultivation is becoming increasingly difficult. With no other option, the few monks at Luohan Temple had to choose to cooperate with the Special Security Bureau and join the ranks of demon hunters.
If I can't kill people, then killing evil demons is fine, right?
——
Under the night sky, the full moon hangs high.
A solitary eagle circled proudly in the sky, its sharp eyes looking down at the earth. It spread its wings and pondered for a moment in the sky, then suddenly swooped down.
At the dimly lit zoo gate, a majestic voice suddenly appeared like a ghost.
Huo Fei stood quietly before the gate, his sharp eyes fixed intently on Fang. After a moment, his brow furrowed, and he vanished silently into the zoo.
Huo Fei strode heavily toward the predator enclosure deep within the park.
As he was healing the white-haired man, he felt a sudden tightness in his chest and immediately realized that someone had touched the demon-suppressing array of the prison.
This situation undoubtedly indicates that a demon is attempting to escape from prison.
He had just carefully inspected the demon-suppressing formation from the sky. The formation was still intact, without a single crack. This proved that the demon had not escaped from the zoo.
Even so, as the person in charge of supervising the prison, Huo Fei did not intend to easily forgive these stubborn demons.
The peace and quiet in the prison over the years has made these demons forget their true identities: it seems it's time to teach them a lesson.
The Demon Prison houses powerful demons, who, despite having their cores stolen, are still formidable.
Decades ago, a demon escaped from this prison. At that time, Huo Fei was not the one guarding the demons; instead, several other demon hunters were responsible.
The monsters revolted, and countless great demons broke free.
The demon hunters suffered heavy losses that time, and many of them, whose cultivation levels were not high, perished in the pursuit of the criminals.
Later, the demon hunters were outnumbered and, in desperation, remembered the famous Buddhist monk known as the Buddha of Killing.
Therefore, they sent people to invite the Buddha of Slaughter, who had retreated from the mortal world, and also invited Huo Fei, a great demon whose fearsome reputation was widespread in both the Taoist and Buddhist realms, as well as the demon realm, to help them suppress the riot.
After that incident, the group discussed the matter and decided to have Huo Fei guard the prison to prevent the demons from escaping again.
