In the kitchen, the rhythmic clatter of a cleaver against the cutting board filled the air. In the living room, two people, one large and one small, stared at each other, lost in an eerie silence.
There was no tension, but a strange sense of unease settled in.
The snake keeper grinned, a gentle smile spreading across his face.
"You must have misremembered." He didn't reveal anything, glanced at the kitchen twice, and changed the subject: "This young lady is of a very high generation, her great-nephew is already so grown up."
Yin Huan remained silent, her small eyebrows twitching as she tried to recall where she had seen this person before.
While Yin Huan was lost in thought, the snake keeper got up, put the cup he had been drinking from on the table, and turned his back to Yin Huan's bedroom.
"Excuse me, thank you for your hospitality. My back doesn't hurt as much anymore, so I'll be leaving now." He laughed heartily, his eyelids slightly closed, and his hand on his lower back moved swiftly. A transparent wave followed the movement of his finger and landed on the door of Silver Ring's bedroom.
After a while, Silver Ring came to her senses, jumped up from the chair, and swished her tail as she walked over to the snake keeper. She raised her little head, her watery eyes fixed on the snake keeper.
He asked bluntly, "What is your purpose?"
She disliked beating around the bush, and if she couldn't figure out the reason, she asked directly. This person's appearance was too strange.
What was most peculiar was that faintly familiar aura that puzzled her... An ordinary person's aura would never have made her remember it. But this person didn't seem to be a demon slayer.
The demon hunter is surrounded by a faint energy, a powerful and alluring energy that no demon can mistake.
This person was completely calm and composed, his breath even and even, containing nothing but the turbid air of ordinary people. He seemed to be just an ordinary mortal.
But why would it be strange if he were just an ordinary person? Yin Huan was certain that among all the ordinary people she had ever met, there was no such person.
But this person carried a familiar aura to her.
The snake keeper paused, then looked down at Yin Huan with a smile: "Little girl, have you been watching too many cartoons? I'm not a bad person. If you think I'm a bad person, then I'll leave now." After saying that, the snake keeper reached out and patted Yin Huan's head, a hint of barely perceptible satisfaction flashing in his eyes, and said: "Little girl, you're really vigilant, but that's good. In the future, when you go out, you must always maintain this level of vigilance and not talk to strangers."
It seems these demons did teach her something, after all.
Silver Ring tilted her head, her eyes filled with even more confusion, her bare skin revealing nothing: "You are a stranger now."
"...I've been a guest at your house before, so I'm not exactly a stranger. The rain outside has lessened, and I have things to do, so I'll be going now." The snake keeper smiled, took out a sparkling bracelet from his pocket, and said, "This is for you; I hope you like it."
This is a crystal bracelet, the workmanship is a bit rough, and it's the kind of thing you can find everywhere at the night market. The only eye-catching part is the green crystal set in the center of the bracelet.
She glanced at the bracelet in the snake-keeper's hand and, as if possessed, took it. The moment she received it, Yin Huan paused, somewhat bewildered as to why she had asked him for it.
She glanced at the bracelet subconsciously, and upon seeing the colored crystal, she inexplicably fell in love with it.
Perhaps she liked the gift, because her tone softened considerably as she said, "I think we might meet again in the future."
The snake breeder paused for a moment, then walked straight to the door: "That means we are destined to meet."
After the snake keeper left, Silver Ring swished its tail and leaned haphazardly against the sofa. Its small paws rubbed the green crystal on its bracelet, and its dark eyes gleamed, as if it were deep in thought.
Silver Ring didn't notice that every time her little hand brushed against the crystal, a wisp of gas would emerge from her little claw and enter her body.
The gas was calm and still, containing no energy whatsoever; it was truly difficult to detect without careful observation.
Yin Huan thought for a long time, and seemed to have figured something out. She suddenly stood up from the sofa, ran to the computer, picked up her phone, and made a call.
That person just now definitely has a problem.
Just the fact that he wasn't injured by his own collision shows that his physical strength is no less than that of the Green Python and other demons. How could a mortal have a body comparable to that of a demon? That's not scientifically possible.
There's something wrong with this.
While making a phone call, Yin Huan held the bracelet up to her eyes, trying to see if there was anything strange about it. After looking at it for a while, the bracelet was still just a bracelet; apart from the somewhat dazzling green crystal, it hadn't been tampered with.
Yin Huan was puzzled. Could it be that she was just being paranoid?
The call connected. Qingmang's distinctive voice came from the other end of the line. Yinhuan briefly recounted what had happened to Qingmang and told him to come back quickly.
Silver Ring had a strong sense of crisis and was also self-aware enough to know that she was a weakling. If someone were to capture her while Green Python and the others were away, she would not be able to put up any resistance.
Others could easily catch her, this mutated snake, with a simple net. She didn't want to fall into the hands of exorcists; she'd better call back her protectors first.
——
Summer thunderstorms come and go quickly. In less than twenty minutes, the sun peeked out from behind the clouds, and the scorching sunlight shone on the earth once again.
After the rain, the earth's moisture was drawn to the ground, and the air was filled with a sultry heat. Jiu Wuqing, the snake breeder, came out of Building 8. He turned around, glanced at Building 8 behind him, turned back, and with a flick of his wrist, several shiny objects suddenly appeared in his hand.
He looked up, glanced at the surveillance camera on Building 8, took a step, evaded the camera's detection, and began to move around Building 8.
