Chapter 11 No Regrets Once a Move Is Made
Ye Xunyang stood at the door of the small kitchen, holding a handful of goji berries in his hand, lost in thought.
The Zhao family father and son lost power in an instant, and the other two families also suffered the consequences. This method could not possibly have been done by his father. His father would have just found a few people to beat them up.
So, besides Lou Jin, he couldn't think of anyone else.
Was he doing this for himself?
Ye Xunyang had always taken responsibility for his fights and troubles since he was a child, or his father and brothers would step in to settle things. He had never been protected so quietly before.
Moreover, how did Lou Jin know such details? Did Mu Shan tell him?
I should have known better than to bring the people from the Prince's mansion out with me; I should have just brought my own people from now on.
This situation made Ye Xunyang feel very uneasy, as if his every move was being controlled by Lou Jin.
Although Lou Jin was once very powerful and naturally had some tricks and informants, since he fell seriously ill, there has been no news of him participating in any court affairs.
Now, for his sake, they might put their long-hidden informants into the open. This is something Ye Xunyang really can't handle. What if the emperor becomes suspicious or the fourth prince targets them?
"Your Highness? These goji berries..." The royal physician beside him noticed him staring blankly and cautiously reminded him.
"Huh? Oh!" Ye Xunyang snapped out of his daze and tossed the goji berries back into the medicine jar.
"Let's leave it at that for now, I'll think about it some more." He absentmindedly wiped his hands and decided to go find Lou Jin.
In the study, Lou Jin was holding a book, his expression calm, as if the turmoil in the court had nothing to do with him.
Sunlight streamed through the window paper, casting a soft glow on his pale face, creating a serene and beautiful scene.
Ye Xunyang pushed open the door and went in, not knowing how to start the conversation.
Just ask them directly if they did it.
That seems too reckless.
Should I say thank you?
It also makes it seem like I need to be protected.
Lou Jin looked up at him, his gaze calm: "How is the research on the prescription going?" He seemed to have no intention of mentioning matters of the court.
Ye Xunyang choked for a moment, walked to his desk, placed his hands on the desk, leaned forward slightly, and stared into Lou Jin's eyes: "Your Highness, have you heard about what happened at the morning court?"
Lou Jin put down his book, met his gaze, and said calmly, "Hmm, I've heard a little about it. Zhao Yong's failure to raise his son is his own fault."
So this means he's admitting he did it?
Ye Xunyang straightened up, touched his nose, and lowered his voice: "Um... thank you."
A faint smile flashed in Lou Jin's eyes, so fleeting it was almost imperceptible: "What are you thanking me for? I simply don't like anyone tarnishing the reputation of the Jin Royal Palace."
"Besides, they cursed me to die young, should I just sit idly by?"
This sounds reasonable, glossing over the part about protecting Ye Xunyang and focusing on the dignity of himself and the Prince's Mansion.
Ye Xunyang listened and thought it made sense, but something seemed off.
He chuckled, revealing a set of white teeth: "Anyway, the result is good! Let's see if they dare to talk nonsense again!"
His smile was bright and tinged with a touch of smugness, like sunlight instantly dispelling the gloom in the room.
Lou Jin looked at him, his eyes flickered slightly, and suddenly felt that the study was much brighter.
He coughed lightly, changing the subject: "Any progress on your prescription?"
Mentioning this, Ye Xunyang's face fell: "Don't even mention it, medical books are giving me a headache. The interactions between those medicinal herbs are more difficult than arranging troops in battle!"
"The physician's advice is sound, but it's all mild tonics. I don't think it'll be strong enough for your condition."
Lou Jin looked at his distressed expression and felt a surge of warmth in his heart. He said, "Illness is like pulling silk from a cocoon; it cannot be rushed. How can ordinary medicines easily cure a stubborn ailment that even the imperial physicians and the Grand Preceptor are helpless against? I appreciate your concern."
"No way! I said I'd cure you, and I have to keep my word!"
"Just because the palace can't help doesn't mean there aren't skilled people among the common folk. I've decided to send people to find renowned doctors. The world is so vast, there must be some extraordinary people who can cure your illness!"
He spoke with great confidence, his eyes sparkling, filled with an undeniable determination.
Lou Jin looked at him, speechless for a moment.
He knew his own body well; the poison was extremely strange. He had consulted numerous renowned doctors over the past three years, but all hope had long since faded.
But look at Ye Xunyang.
Perhaps... perhaps there really is a glimmer of hope?
Lou Jin opened his mouth, but in the end, he didn't dampen his enthusiasm and simply said, "Whatever you want."
"Do what you can, and don't overwork yourself."
"Don't worry, Your Highness! I've got it covered!" Ye Xunyang patted his chest, as if he could already see the day Lou Jin would recover.
“I’ll write a letter right now and ask my brother at the border to keep an eye out for any rare medicines from the Western Regions or miracle doctors from beyond the Great Wall.”
Watching Ye Xunyang's hurried figure about to rush out again, Lou Jin couldn't help but call out to him, "Xunyang."
Ye Xunyang paused, then turned around in astonishment.
This was the first time Lou Jin had called him by his name directly.
Lou Jin seemed to pause for a moment before continuing, "Let's have lunch first. There's no need to rush to find a doctor or medicine."
His voice remained calm, but it had lost some of its aloofness.
Ye Xunyang was taken aback for a moment, then grinned and said, "Alright! We'll listen to Your Highness! We need to be well-fed to have the energy to work!"
Ye Xunyang ate his lunch with great relish, telling Lou Jin about his grand plan to find a doctor while he ate. Lou Jin listened quietly, occasionally responding, and the atmosphere was more harmonious than ever before.
Wang Quan served the prince from the side, and seeing that the prince ate half a bowl more rice than usual, his eyes and brows revealed a sense of satisfaction.
In the afternoon, Ye Xunyang first wrote letters to his father and brothers, and then summoned several capable stewards from the Prince's Mansion, instructing them to keep an eye out for news about famous doctors in the capital and even in other places, promising them a large sum of money.
Lou Jin was in his study, listening to the guards report on Ye Xunyang's actions, his fingertips lightly tapping the table.
"Let him be. Just send someone to protect him secretly and make sure his people don't come into contact with any forces they shouldn't."
"yes."
After the guards withdrew, Lou Jin looked out the window.
His original plan was to use Ye Xunyang to alleviate his pain, stabilize the Ye family, and secretly plot against them.
But now, things seem to be developing in a direction he never expected.
But in any case, the game has begun, and there's no going back on the moves.
