Take her hunting

Take her hunting

Fuyao sat in the bumpy carriage along the way, and she always felt uneasy when looking at the scenery outside the window because she was worried about her family in Ganzhou.

The large group left Yu'an, and Feng Chenyu deliberately chose a forest path to speed up the process.

As soon as they entered the woods, Feng Chenyu and Ma Su in the front row quickly caught sight of something passing through the jungle on one side.

Feng Chenyu looked up at the slightly dazzling light in the sky, then turned his head to look around. At this time, the woods were so quiet that there was not even a sound of wind.

Then he raised his hand to signal the team behind him to stop.

Then he took off the bow and arrow hanging on the horse's back, quickly pulled the bow and shot the arrow, and with a whoosh, the arrow hit the ground.

Immediately afterwards, the ground about ten meters away from the target made a thud, and flames and dust rose up.

"There's an ambush."

Feng Chenyu shouted.

But before he could finish his words, he saw countless sharp arrows shooting towards the team from all directions.

In a panic, Feng Chenyu grabbed the long sword and slashed at the incoming arrows. Because of his fast speed, many arrows were knocked back to the ground.

He glanced at the carriage worriedly, and then an arrow whizzed past his face, and he vaguely felt blood dripping.

Fu Yao in the car knew that she had been ambushed. She held the car door tightly and half-knelt behind it to avoid the long arrows shot through the window.

No matter how well-trained the army was, this sudden ambush dealt them a fatal blow, and many people were shot and fell to the ground before they could react.

Feng Chenyu knew clearly that if he wanted to solve the problem, he had to take the initiative.

So he waved his sword to block the arrow while riding his horse towards the direction of the arrow.

He saw a figure in the jungle, then he quickened his speed and slashed with his knife, dropping the head to the ground.

Ma Sui and several generals soon joined him, and soon all the archers fell to the ground and died.

Feng Chenyu hurriedly dismounted, walked quickly to the front of the carriage, opened the door and shouted,

"Fuyao."

"I'm fine."

Fuyao leaned out.

Seeing that she was fine, Feng Chenyu's tense nerves finally relaxed, and he immediately asked Ma Su and others to go and count the casualties of the soldiers.

The injured were treated by military doctors, and the dead were buried and their names recorded. Pensions were paid to their families after they returned.

Feng Chenyu stood under a big tree, looking at the clouds in the sky with a frown.

He knew who had set the ambush for him, but he didn't expect that the man would be so impatient and wanted these soldiers to be buried with him.

It seems that the court is safe for the time being.

"You're hurt."

Fuyao got out of the car worriedly and came behind him.

The blood on his face had stained his armor red.

Feng Chenyu didn't say anything, just looked ahead silently.

Seeing this, Fuyao didn't bother him and turned away.

After a while, she came to him with medicine in her hand and quietly helped him wipe the wound.

Feng Chenyu slowly raised his hand and held her wrist where the medicine was applied, looking at her and said lightly,

"I'm fine."

Then he turned around and went to the team to find out what was going on.

Before dark they arrived at a meadow and set up camp, no longer traveling day and night, so that the wounded could rest.

Ma Su brought some mixed cakes and water into the tent and gave them to Fuyao and Feng Chenyu. Feng Chenyu simply ate a few bites and said to Ma Su,

"Call a few people and go hunting together."

Then he stood up and walked out of the tent.

"I want to go, too."

Fuyao quickly stood up. She had never seen anyone hunting before.

There were five of them in total, and Fuyao and Feng Chenyu rode on the same horse.

On the dim forest road, a cool breeze blew gently, and the two people riding horses carefully observed the situation around them.

Suddenly, a prey was seen running towards the bushes in the darkness, and Feng Chenyu rode his horse to chase it with a bow and arrow in hand.

Seeing the prey about to jump into the bushes, he quickly raised his hand, drew his bow and shot an arrow while running.

Fu Yao only heard a whooshing sound beside her ear, and then saw an arrow flash past her.

With a thud, the prey fell to the ground.

"Hit."

Fuyao turned around and shouted happily.

Feng Chenyu smiled and lowered his head, then dismounted and picked up the prey, which was a deer.

Because it was cold outside, he was worried that Fuyao would be cold, so he rode back.

Soon, all the people who went out hunting came back, and a blazing bonfire was lit beside the tent.

Feng Chenyu handed the prey to Ma Su and asked them to roast it and share it with everyone.

After entering the big tent, Fuyao took off her cloak and saw that her hands were red. Feng Chenyu walked forward, held her hands in front of her chest, and lowered his head to breathe on her hands.

Seeing this, Fuyao's cheeks turned red.

"Better?"

Feng Chenyu looked up at her.

Just then, Ma Sui came in with a pot of fire and opened the curtain, ready to come in.

Fuyao quickly freed her hands and turned away embarrassedly, not looking at him.

Ma Sui, holding the fire, stood at the entrance of the tent, unable to advance or retreat.

Feng Chenyu turned his head and glanced at him at the entrance, then raised his hand and pointed at a place inside the tent.

"Put it there."

Ma Sui nodded quickly and put the things away. Without wasting a moment, he almost trotted out of the tent.

"Come and warm yourself by the fire."

Feng Chenyu looked at Fuyao gently, then sat down by the fire.

Fuyao turned around and walked over meekly.

The tent was quiet for a while, and only the occasional crackling of flames could be heard from the stove.

"Deputy Chief."

The sound of horses came from outside the tent.

Feng Chenyu looked up at Fuyao,

"Enter."

Then Ma Sui entered the tent and carefully placed the freshly roasted meat on the table next to the stove.

Feng Chenyu raised his hand, tore off a piece and handed it to Fuyao.

After all, we are on the march, so there is no need to be so particular.

After taking a few bites, Fuyao saw Feng Chenyu stand up and walk out, and asked hurriedly,

"Don't you want to eat?"

"I don't eat at this time. If you get tired, you can rest. I'll be out for a while."

Feng Chenyu said this and walked out of the tent.

He didn't want to embarrass her, so he waited until she fell asleep before coming back to sleep on the floor.

Because of the good weather along the way, they sped up their march and arrived in Ganzhou in less than a month.

The large army was stationed in the military defense zone in the south of the city, where there was a general's platform, a training ground outside the city gate and other military facilities.

Eager to meet Magistrate Cao to learn more about the situation, Feng Chenyu went to the prefectural government on his own, and Ma Su escorted Fuyao home.

As soon as he arrived at the prefectural government, he saw Prefect Cao already waiting in the lobby.

"Deputy Fengshu."

Cao Zhizhou hurriedly stood up and walked towards him.

Feng Chenyu nodded and asked about the current situation in Ganzhou.

Cao Zhizhou frowned.

"This group of bandits clearly came prepared, and there are a large number of them, at least 8,000 if not 10,000.

They always broke into the city at night to rob the people's property. A few days ago, they also looted the government's food and weapons depot.

They are currently stationed in the southeastern highlands, surrounded by mountains and rivers, with lush forests, making it easy to defend and difficult to attack.

Our forces are limited, so we can only passively defend and prevent them from causing further damage to the city."

"Do you know the situation of their internal personnel?"

Feng Chenyu asked in a low voice.

Cao Zhizhou looked at him.

“They are mainly led by two brothers, the eldest is Cui Kaisheng, known as the Vulture.

He was born a sailor, with a burly build and great strength.

He is treacherous, cruel, and greedy for women.

He is called Vulture because he is almost bald and there is an eagle-shaped symbol on the sword in his hand.

The second brother, Xu Jing, is known as Brother Bai.

He usually wears white clothes and looks gentle, brave and resourceful.

It's unclear why he would be hanging out with someone like Vulture."

As soon as Fuyao got off the carriage, she saw Uncle Yu standing at the gate with anticipation in his eyes. She was a little surprised.

She didn't know that Feng Chenyu had already written a letter to inform her in advance.

"Madam."

Uncle Yu looked at her with red eyes.

"Uncle Yu, why are you standing at the door? It's so cold!"

Fuyao hurriedly pulled his arm and walked towards the yard.

Before she entered the lobby, she saw Second Aunt standing at the entrance looking at her, with Qing Ning standing behind her.

"Second Aunt, are you okay?"

Fuyao spoke.

Madam Xu nodded repeatedly, her face full of joy.

“Okay, very good.

It’s great to have you back!”

"Madam."

Qing Ning called out softly.

Fuyao was somewhat surprised to see her.

"Didn't I tell you to find a good family to marry into?"

"You don't know this girl. I asked someone to find a husband for her before, but she didn't want to meet him.

She said she would wait for you and that she would only follow you in this life."

There was a sense of familiarity in Mrs. Xu's eyes.

"Madam, ever since Madam Tong brought me into the mansion, I will be yours in life and your ghost in death.

I will never leave my wife in this life."

Qing Ning said this seriously, with determination in her eyes.

"Oh, this girl."

Mrs. Xu shook her head regretfully.

Seeing her determination, Fuyao no longer insisted.

"good."

Qingning was very happy.

As they were talking, they walked into the lobby and sat down. Later, Ma Sui brought some people to bring in a few mahogany boxes.

"What is this?"

Uncle Yu asked doubtfully.

"My young master said that he and the eldest lady got married in Yu'an in a hurry, so he came here specially to make up for the betrothal gifts."

Ma Sui said respectfully.

In fact, these were all prepared in advance by Feng Chenyu and Cao Cang, and even Fu Yao didn’t know about it.

Uncle Yu turned around and looked at Madam Xu with satisfaction.

"I didn't expect him to be so thoughtful."

Then he looked up at Fuyao, "You didn't come with us?"

"He came to Ganzhou this time mainly to suppress bandits, so he went to the prefectural government to understand the situation first."

Fuyao smiled.

"Is he good to you?"

Madam Xu was concerned. She never thought that Fuyao would marry Feng Chenyu, and that it was a marriage granted by His Majesty.

"Um."

Fuyao nodded.

"How's the store? Is it safe?"

On the way here, she also heard that bandits would rob shops everywhere.

"Ours is fine, but the Shen family's cloth shop and pharmacy were both attacked."

Mrs. Xu frowned.

Fuyao asked anxiously,

"Are Brother Shen and the others okay?"

"No one is hurt, just some property is lost."

Uncle Yu replied in a low voice.

Fuyao nodded, money is just material possessions, as long as the person is fine, it's good enough.

"elder sister!"

As he was speaking, Shangguan Qi came running in from outside the door.

Then, he strode into Fuyao's arms.

"What a disgrace this boy has! Your sister is married now, you can't do this!"

Mrs. Xu stood up and scolded.

"So what if we get married?

Even if we get married, she is still my sister, and I am closer to her than my brother-in-law is to her."

Shangguan Qi still held Fuyao's arm and said stubbornly.

"My brother-in-law is absolutely right!"

Feng Chenyu's voice came from the courtyard.
