Chapter 140 Binding the Corpse

Chapter 140 Binding the Corpse

Lin Xi packed out the things she would need the day after tomorrow—a durable bodysuit, rope, lock, two daggers, a miniature camera, and matching electronic equipment.

As planned, Xiang Xin would monitor the situation from outside and then report back to Lin Xi.

The military has more sophisticated equipment that can directly take over hospital monitoring, but the apocalypse has not yet truly begun, and the approval conditions for the use of precision instruments are very strict. Lin Xi, as an outsider, does not have the authority to use them.

Her electronic surveillance cameras are all readily available to ordinary people on the market. Just like in her previous life, she needs to go to the hospital early in the morning to install them, in order to prevent them from being discovered and removed by hospital staff if installed in advance, or even triggering an alarm and causing unnecessary trouble.

-

May 20, 2025.

Time has reached this point for the eleventh time.

Lin Xi arrived at Hongwen Hospital early. The security guards were the same ones from her previous life. They nodded and greeted the interns before going about their own business.

Hongwen Hospital appears calm on the surface, but in fact, it is subtly different from usual.

Lin Xi met Yang Yicheng, who was in plainclothes, outside the hospital.

He wasn't carrying any weapons, nor did he have the cold and slovenly appearance often associated with apocalyptic scenarios; he was a very energetic-looking young man.

Lin Xi clenched her fists in the pocket of her white coat, her expression unchanged.

Lu Wei had previously mentioned that her stress response was very obvious and could be easily observed with a little attention.

After so many years of experience, she is no longer the Lin Xi who would instinctively shrink back and avoid eye contact when she saw a certain menacing figure.

Since Yang Yicheng has appeared, the seemingly ordinary young people around him are probably his teammates.

Lin Xi walked past without a trace of surprise.

Checking in and patrolling, Lin Xi left traces in familiar places one by one—miniature cameras.

At 9 a.m., Lin Xi quietly returned to the changing room, put on the special protective suit under her white coat, put the tools she brought with her into her pocket, and put on a miniature headset.

After the voice connection was established, Xiang Xin's voice came through: "San San, can you hear me?"

"Um."

"Everything is normal now."

"I know that the period after September 30th is the key point."

"I saw Brother Lu."

Lin Xi turned her gaze slightly and, sure enough, saw Lu Wei in plainclothes.

He pretended to take a form and sat in the neurology queuing area. Most of the people around him were elderly, which made him stand out. Jiang XX was right next to him.

Lu Wei, who no longer works as a lawyer, still likes to wear shirts, but his hair is much shorter than in his previous life, making him look less artistic and more powerful.

They nodded in acknowledgment from afar.

The old woman next to Lu Wei, who was waiting in line for her number to be called, glanced at him several times and finally couldn't help but ask, "Young man, what's wrong with you at such a young age?"

"Pfft..." Xiang Xin laughed out loud in the earpiece, "Neurology department, do you think Brother Lu will say that there's something wrong with his brain?"

Lin Xi couldn't help but laugh.

Even at such a tense moment.

Although Lu Wei didn't seem like a talkative person, he maintained basic politeness and gave a few perfunctory replies in a serious manner.

Lin Xi had been keeping an eye on Xu Ruigan, the doctor who had initially turned into a zombie, and so far, he seemed normal.

A short while later, Liang Hui met up with Lin Xi following the voice instructions.

They split into two groups: Lu Wei dealt with Jiang xx, Lin Xi and Liang Hui dealt with Xu Ruigan, and Xiang Xin promptly reported the discovery of another zombie infection source, Li xx, and assigned one person to deal with him.

The remaining military personnel were either patrolling the hospital in plainclothes or preparing to surround it from the outside, ensuring that nothing went wrong.

As 9:30 approached, Lin Xi and Liang Hui caught up with Xu Ruigan.

Xu Ruigan walked slowly to his office and sat down. He wore two masks, and his eyes were dull and lifeless. After a voice announcement, a patient waiting in line at the door entered with his family.

Lin Xi saw Xu Ruigan's expression from afar outside the door, and then looked at the two patients. They were two of the nine people she had killed in her previous life.

They hadn't been seen at the hospital for a while, and Lin Xi hadn't been able to find any information about them. They only showed up at the hospital today.

Behind him, Liang Hui whispered, "Are all three of them together? It's already 9:30. If he really turns into a zombie, will the two people in front of him have enough time to escape? Should we just close and lock the door?"

Liang Hui stood behind her and reached into his pocket for the rope.

Lin Xi shook her head slightly: "Of these three people, only two are first-generation zombies, and the other was attacked. However, the zombie virus has an incubation period, which varies in length. We can't tell who was the first infected person to carry the virus. Let's separate them first."

Lin Xi went straight in and knocked on the door: "Dr. Xu."

Xu Ruigan looked up at Lin Xi listlessly: "You are..."

His eyes haven't turned green yet, or even turned bloodshot; his speech is clear, and he hasn't changed.

Lin Xi: "I'm an intern brought by Professor Song Heng. Professor Song asked me to retrieve some data. Please cooperate." She turned to the patients and said, "It involves hospital secrets. Please wait outside for a moment."

The two exchanged a glance and silently left.

Xu Rui coughed twice: "I know Professor Song Heng. But patient data cannot be disclosed casually in principle; it requires approval."

Lin Xi noticed that his eyes had turned red as he coughed, which seemed to be a bad sign. Lin Xi quickly nodded and said, "I'll go right away."

Taking advantage of a moment when no one was looking, he quickly pulled out the rope hidden in his pocket and nimbly tied Xu Ruigan to the chair.

"Hey! What are you doing? Cough cough..." Xu Rui didn't struggle, looking at Lin Xi with an incredulous expression.

Lin Xi didn't say anything, silently tied a knot in the rope, and secured the person to the stool before leaving, taking the lock from the door with her.

Liang Hui was still with Li XX and his family, who had just come to see the doctor.

At 9:40, Xiang Xin's voice came: "Brother Lu has been caught."

Liang Hui looked at the two patients: "My side hasn't mutated yet."

However, a man's shouts came from the next office: "Let go of me right now! What are you doing?! Someone come here!!!"

The screams attracted people nearby, and Lin Xi and Xiang Xin quickly scanned the faces in the crowd to see if there were any people who might have turned into zombies.

Just then, the person next to Liang Hui twisted his neck, and his eyes turned gray.

"Him!" Liang Hui and Lin Xi quickly grabbed him and tied him up, while Li xx's family members stood by, trying to stop them and shouting insults.

Fearing it would have a negative impact, Lin Xi tied the person up and quickly moved them to an empty room with Liang Hui.

The corridor suddenly became very lively. In one ward, a doctor was locked up on a chair and screaming. In another ward, a female doctor was blocking the door and resisting a patient's family.
