Chapter 148 Rescue

Chapter 148 Rescue

The frosted glass door leads to a dark corridor, at the end of which, around a bend, are four laboratories with different functions.

Everything is dark now, and there are occasional small noises coming from inside.

Lin Xi put on the special glasses she had taken from the isolation room. Because the incident happened so suddenly, she hadn't brought her night vision glasses with her, and the researchers inside knew that zombies had poor eyesight in the dark, so they chose to turn off the lights.

Lin Xi could only see the zombies and people inside using thermal imaging.

Before a person fully mutates into a zombie, their body temperature will rise sharply, especially the brain temperature. After the mutation is complete, the temperature will drop to around room temperature.

However, the mutation has not been going on for long, and the zombies' body temperature has not yet dropped.

Furthermore, zombies' limb movements are not very coordinated, so the difference between zombies and humans is still quite obvious in thermal imaging.

Lin Xi cautiously walked in, located the zombies, and devised a battle plan.

The zombies wandered aimlessly in the darkness, while several people with normal body temperature and no movement were hidden under the table and in the cabinet.

The enemy's blindness was very beneficial to Lin Xi, and she cleared out the zombies wandering in the laboratory in about 7 minutes.

The laboratory lights came on, but the people hiding still dared not show themselves.

Lin Xi whispered, "The zombies have all been killed. Come out."

People from under the table, in the cabinet, and on top of the air conditioner all came down.

Lin Xi glanced at the crowd and saw that Song Heng was still alive and well, along with a scientist and several colleagues.

Fortunately, about half of the core members of the research team are still alive.

Looking at the zombies scattered on the ground, someone asked incredulously, "Did you kill all of these?"

Lin Xi nodded.

Song Heng said with relief, "I knew it was the right thing to do to keep you in the lab."

Lin Xi: "There are still some surviving senior students and a few newly mutated zombies in the isolation room. Teacher, I'll go open the door and tell them."

Song Heng: "Your senior brothers and sisters were locked up with zombies, and they didn't turn into zombies?"

Lin Xi: "Everyone tied up the infected person and made observation records during the infection period."

Song Heng nodded, feeling both relieved and lingering fear: "What happened? Those three zombies were kept safe and sound, so how did so many people suddenly mutate?"

Lin Xi looked at the group of people and held back from saying anything for the time being.

She knocked on the door of the isolation room to let it open, and Song Heng followed her out.

The classmates, colleagues, and teachers who had spent every day with the survivors breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing them, filled with emotion, realizing that their group had lost many people in just one short morning.

Song Heng saw five people who were tied up, three of whom already looked like zombies.

The person Lin Xi had given several injections of antibiotics before entering the lab had completely mutated.

The other one is burning with fever, its veins are bulging, and it looks like it's about to mutate.

Only the one who claimed to have only drunk a little milk remained conscious, but seeing that the other four of her kind had mutated, she panicked and begged others to give her two more injections.

After learning the whole story, Song Heng had two other people who hadn't mutated yet carried into the laboratory. He wanted to personally perform emergency treatment on the infected individuals and asked Lin Xi to collect and submit the observation records of the infected individuals that everyone had just made.

The gunfire outside hadn't stopped, and no one could get out. The people in the isolation room filled the gaps left by the dead in the laboratory, and they all went in to help clean up the mess in the laboratory and carry in the newly mutated zombies for sampling and testing.

Lin Xi received a message from Lu Wei, who said that the situation outside was bad and most people were carrying out the task of clearing zombies and rescuing citizens.

Lin Xi briefly explained the poisoning incident at the research institute, and that Lu Wei had to come in person.

Even if the guards outside can be trusted, Lin Xi's words may not be taken seriously if Lu Wei doesn't come.

Moreover, the research institute had suffered such a major incident, which was maliciously poisoned. Lin Xi looked at the busy figures in the laboratory. These familiar faces, after experiencing a calamity, had expressions of exhaustion, anxiety, or relief as if they had survived a disaster...

Who poisoned the lab? What was their motive? Are they still in the lab?

Lin Xi felt as if she had entered a real werewolf game. When daylight came, the murderer and the good guys were mixed together waiting for trial.

She stood guard at the frosted glass door of the isolation room.

About fifteen minutes later, a voice came from outside asking, "Is anyone still alive inside?"

Lin Xi asked for the other person's name and number. The person was not Lu Wei, but someone Lu Wei said he could trust.

After they came in, they said that the zombies in the research institute had been cleared out and it was safe for the time being.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief the moment they saw the military. They had just been locked in a relatively safe room with a glass door, and now that the zombies outside had been cleared away, they could finally relax.

Song Heng and his team continued their research, but some people who had worked the night shift were exhausted and wanted to rest. They informed their supervisor that they wanted to change shifts and tried to leave.

Some people reported to their mentors: "There's been a large-scale zombie outbreak outside. My parents are still at home. I need to go back and check on them."

About half of the people tried to leave for various reasons.

Some people were already off work, and it was understandable that they were worried about their families given the chaos outside. Song Heng waved his hand in agreement.

The military is only responsible for security here; as long as security checks and information verification are completed, they will not interfere with the entry and exit of laboratory personnel.

Seeing someone about to step over the threshold of the isolation room, Lin Xi said sternly, "No! No one can leave!"

Everyone looked at her in surprise, and some protested, "You think you can just say no and that's it?"

"That's right, even though you saved everyone, you can't control them."

Lin Xi explained to her mentor and the military: "We have just confirmed through observation that the fresh milk was poisoned, which caused the mutation. The matter has not yet been investigated, so no one can leave!"
