Chapter 23 Rainy Night, Man in Black

Chapter 23 Rainy Night, Man in Black

The darkness and heavy rain blurred Lin Xi's vision, and she mistook the two zombies on the roof for fear to move. However, she wanted to make sure that her living environment was safe, so she didn't open the sunroom door. Instead, she hid in the room with a baseball bat and a knife to peek.

The two figures on the glass roof of the sunroom were nimble and huddled together, discussing something. They were clearly not zombies, but two people.

Lin Xi had a bad feeling—

Could it be that someone discovered the solar panels she installed on the roof and came to steal them?

If the rooftop solar panels are stolen, at least one-third of the electricity will be lost every day, which is very detrimental.

Lin Xi gripped the baseball bat tightly, staring intently at the two people on the glass roof.

She had one-way privacy film applied to all of her sunrooms, so she could see outside, but the two men couldn't see her.

Both men were quite large, even somewhat burly. Lin Xi couldn't make out their faces, but could only tell from their physique that they were two middle-aged men.

If these two burly men were to try and take the solar panels, Lin Xi wouldn't dare to go up and fight them even with a baseball bat in hand; he wouldn't stand a chance.

The sound of rain masked their conversation. Lin Xi, hiding inside the door, felt her heart pounding. She hadn't expected that she would encounter other situations in this life as well. In her previous life, she hadn't met these two people.

Seeing the two men plotting, Lin Xi realized they wanted more than just to steal the solar panels; they also had ulterior motives regarding the sunroom.

Although there are no supplies stored in the sunroom, the two charging panels and the water filter are on the balcony. If someone finds them and takes them, then the extra water filter and solar charger prepared in this life will be gone.

In her previous life, she died because of water and power outages.

We can't let these two succeed in their theft!

Lin Xi gritted her teeth and made a decision, quickly opening the balcony door and carrying the battery inside.

Although the two people were on the roof of the sunroom, she had applied a one-way privacy film, so they couldn't see her. Under the cover of the sound of rain, she wasn't afraid of revealing her footsteps.

She was so nervous that her mouth was dry and her heart was pounding. Just as she was about to move the solar panels, she suddenly heard a loud "bang".

The sharp sound sent shivers down Lin Xi's spine.

Lin Xi subconsciously looked up and saw a man take out a large wrench and smash it heavily against the glass of the sunroom.

Although the glass material chosen was relatively hard, it couldn't withstand such a smashing. Seeing that the glass on top was about to shatter, Lin Xi simply gave up on moving the water filter and solar panels, hid inside the house, and locked the door of the sunroom.

"Clang!" The sound of shattering glass came from inside the room, and Lin Xi saw the two men jump down one after the other through the window.

The windows inside the house are also covered with one-way privacy film, so there's no need to worry about being discovered for the time being.

Lin Xi saw their faces clearly—

It turned out to be the owner of the small, shady shop downstairs, and there was also a young man with a wrench that she didn't recognize.

The man weighed the wrench in his hand, and while looking around at the things in the sunroom, he exclaimed in amazement: "There's so much good stuff! There are so many solar panels and a water filter. We won't have to worry about anything now."

Upon hearing this, Lin Xi's heart sank.

They really were there to steal things.

The shady shop owner wrung out the water from his clothes, his face full of greed: "Thanks to you for using binoculars to see the blackboard reflecting light on the roof of this place. So that's what solar charging panels are."

The young man with the wrench clicked his tongue twice, glanced into the house, and grinned wickedly: "I heard that the head of this household and his wife died a few years ago, leaving only their daughter, a college student, who is smart enough to come up with these things."

Through the privacy film, Lin Xi met that malicious gaze and felt a chill run down her spine.

The shady shop owner lifted the water filter and wiped his forehead: "This thing is quite heavy. How are we going to get it back safely?"

"Dad, you're so stupid," the young man said disdainfully. "Why don't we just move here?"

So they were father and son; no wonder they shared the same greed.

The shady shop owner slapped his forehead: "You're right, this is the top floor, much safer than our warehouse. This place has electricity and air conditioning, and there must be a bed inside. It's comfortable to stay here."

It turns out that before the zombie outbreak, the black market shop made a fortune by raising prices, but after hearing the rumors, they were careful and didn't touch the things in the warehouse. When the zombie outbreak occurred, the family hid in the warehouse and survived until now thanks to the supplies in the warehouse.

However, their store is just a small shop with low customer traffic. To prevent items from expiring due to overstocking, they don't have many supplies in their warehouse.

This family of robust men has only survived to this day by living frugally.

But they were unwilling to starve to death. The two daring men took advantage of the night and heavy rain to avoid being detected by the zombies and went out to search for supplies.

Although this family was wicked, they were not stupid; they had used binoculars to observe the entrance where supplies might be stored beforehand.

That's how Lin Xi's family came to be targeted.

The young man said, "Let's hurry back and bring Mom and Xiaoyu over while there aren't many zombies left."

The unscrupulous shop owner didn't agree immediately. He rolled his eyes and said, "How about we don't go back to pick them up? It's too dangerous."

The young man exclaimed in surprise, "How can that be? My mother and wife are inside, and my wife is pregnant."

The unscrupulous shop owner bluntly expressed his cruelty: "Your own mother is a shrew, you're better off without her. What time is it now? We don't even have enough to eat, and you still have to feed them?"

Recalling how his family had fought over food a few days ago when supplies ran out, nearly attracting zombies, the young man wavered.

His father continued to fan the flames: "Didn't you say that the Lin family only has one daughter? Seeing the charging pad at their house, they're probably still alive. Your wife is pregnant and can't move around much, she can't get here. If you ask me, we should just stay here and not go back. You can keep that girl..."

Before the conversation was over, Lin Xi picked up the battery, turned around, and ran downstairs.

The third floor and the attic are connected and belong to her family, so there is no door separating them. Once those two people smash the window between the attic and the sunroom, they can move freely in this house.

She no longer has time to take care of the equipment and supplies upstairs; she's even worried about her own safety!

Chaos first disturbs people's hearts. The arrival of zombies has disrupted the original order. In order to survive, some people have long since abandoned the law and morality.

There's no way Lin Xi can leave the house. Although it's raining heavily and there don't seem to be many zombies outside, someone like Lin Xi, who lacks self-defense capabilities and has poor reflexes, would die if she left the house.

Fortunately, her room had a door and a lock, which served as a barrier.

Lin Xi carried the battery into the room, which was filled with snacks and instant food. She knew the layout of the house like the back of her hand and immediately figured out which essential supplies she needed to replenish.

Water, induction cooker.

And self-defense tools!

The others can be put aside for now.

As Lin Xi was rolling the second bucket of mineral water into the room, she heard a loud crash and the sound of glass shattering on the floor coming from the attic.

—Those two people came in!

Lin Xi quickly carried the water into the room, removed the key to her room, and locked the door tightly.
